Customer Reviews
Great place – it’s so Retro and old school. It took me back to family dinners in the 80s, and I loved it. Great menu and the oysters were amazing value! The steaks were perfect and reasonably priced. Booked a table, so no wait time. Def recommend booking! Staff were super friendly and helpful. First time here but definitely won’t be my last! Loved it.

Nice vibe for a steakhouse and bar
Very good drink menu
Friendly staff
Seafood chowder is a must order item. The soup is very rich and full of seafood. It comes with a piece of bread which is very soft and fluffy.
Steak is well cooked to medium rare. Seasoning is a bit strong but acceptable
Price is reasonable as well
Tom Kwan (☆ 5/5)

Ugly Burger was enormous and delicious with the exception of being ordered “medium” and delivered “well done.” House specialty “Tony’s Scotch Fillet” was served a perfect medium rare, but curiously was quite tough and difficult to cut even with enormous serrated knife provided. Perhaps I was just unfortunate to receive substandard slice of bovine. Neither of us felt like lodging a complaint as we were both very tired and eager to eat. The sautéed zucchini on the side however it was excellent, and the fries on both orders were cooked to perfection. Wine and cocktail prices were quite reasonable as were the prices of the food for such a lovely restaurant with an enchanting ambience. With one cocktail, two glasses of wine and the food listed above our bill came to the equivalent of $66 US, which e considered a fair price.
Steve Walker (☆ 4/5)

I recently dined at Tony’s steak house and it was an experience to remember.
From the moment we walked in, the warm ambiance and attentive staff set the stage for a wonderful evening.
The menu offered a delightful array of options, showcasing creativity and high-quality food which was beautifully presented and full .
For the main course, I chose the fillet steak and it was nothing short of perfection – tender, flavorful, and paired with the most exquisite sides.
Highly recommend it best steak in Auckland
Mohammed Al-Jamal (☆ 5/5)

Very good steak, well-made and perfection. We had the Italiano and it was well seasoned…didn’t feel the need for a sauce, it held itself so beautifully well on its own. We also had the crumbed scallops which was a good dish too. Succulent and sweet inside and crumbly crunchy crust. Ambience was also relaxed old-school…just the way we like it.
Bhavya C (☆ 5/5)

Tony’s Original Steak & Seafood Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone craving for steaks. All the Steak are melt-in-your- mouth. The Fillet Steak, The Italiano, The Pacific Steak ‘surf-and-turf’ style and Tony’s Original were delightful. The potato mash was no exception. It’s buttery, making it an excellent pairing for steaks. The Mushroom Sauce was creamy and rich, the perfect complement to any steak.
Mint Hong (☆ 5/5)

You won’t be disappointed about their steak. All the dishes were delicious. Staff is helpful and friendly. We had a wonderful dinner and would surely recommend you to try.

Customer Reviews
The outside service counter has a pretty straightforward menu and you order at the counter, sit at a table with a number and they bring the food. It’s not fancy, but the fish is absolutely delicious and if you have a chance and at least one other person, I highly recommend the whole grilled red snapper. It is amazing.
They cooked it to perfection. Just enough so that it was cooked through, but still tender, flaky, and juicy through and the seasonings were perfect. Topped with a few fresh aromatics, it was amazing to just eat through. The flesh on the bones is always more succulent, and the skin was crisp. Excellent with a side of fries and a salad and we had more than enough for dinner for two. Loved this so much and it was so fresh.
Phyllis Rostykus (☆ 5/5)

Absolutely! Here’s a positive review for the Auckland Fish Market:
5 stars
The Auckland Fish Market is a must-visit for any seafood lover! Located near the water, it has an awesome mix of 8 diverse eateries, all offering fresh, flavorful dishes—from sushi and oysters to fish & chips and seafood platters. There’s truly something for every palate, and the quality is consistently excellent.
Beyond the food, there’s a lovely central courtyard that makes it a great place to relax with friends or family. It has a fun, lively atmosphere without being overwhelming, and the indoor-outdoor layout gives it a laid-back coastal vibe.
What sets this place apart is the seafood market itself—packed with an impressive variety of fresh seafood to take home. Whether you’re after prawns, mussels, salmon, or something more adventurous, it’s all there, and super fresh.
Perfect for a casual lunch, a special dinner, or just browsing the seafood selection—Auckland Fish Market hits the mark for quality, variety, and atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Tout était bon!! Excellent !!

Delicious! I recommend the Lobster roll is a good taste. Grilled fish also nice! Here is more and more restaurants and takeaway food, wine and beer, coffee or sofe drinks.
carman hung (☆ 4/5)

The food here is always great, with plenty of options, whether you’re in the mood for seafood, meat, or vegetarian cuisine. But my favorite part? The live music!
Last time, we had the pleasure of listening to an amazing duo with incredible voices, it truly made the experience unforgettable.
Highly recommend

Parking was somewhat limited, all full when I arrived at 1:15pm Sunday. Parked at next door car park, paid $8 for 2 hrs. (1 hr $4, or $3.50 using their app. Can’t be bothered).
Food was awesome overall (except a few prawns slightly off from the platter)
Great customer service, took recommendations from the lovely lady serving us.
Booked a few days in advance as they are always full for dinner or lunch
Will be back!
Dorothy Ng (☆ 5/5)

Fresh seafood, we ordered the oysters, sashimi and fried fish and they were all delightful. Love the theme of the restaurant and overall the staff were all friendly and attentive. A perfect restaurant for a nightout with friends and family, I like how they have different areas for cozy vibes or drinking vibes. Would definitely come back again.
Tan Napisara (☆ 5/5)

I definitely recommend the pirate platter. It’s full of fresh seafood and the portion is big. The only thing I don’t like is the teeny tiny shrimps. They are more like filling up the empty space of the plate.
Both of the desert, tiramisu and brownie, are very good. The texture is creamy, smooth, and rich. They are the perfect ending to this meal.
Li-Chen Lin (☆ 5/5)

Swashbucklers is a great place to catch up with friends or just having a nice brunch/lunch or dinner with your loved ones the food is great – it’s a very popular place –
It’s awesome place to go if the weather is fine ( but have to go not right on the busy times so best to get there when they first open 11am or after the lunch rush 2ish )- but in saying that it’s a great place just to even pop into to hve a cold one – so it’s a busy place and most people like sitting outside enjoying the scenery – so good luck in getting that seat –
I’ve been going to Swashbucklers for about 20 years on and off & always have had great food & great service – and lucky enough to get that special seat out of the hot sun under umbrella-
It’s also great if you have your 4 legged fluffy mate with you as they do hve water bowls out for them as well – it’s good to see more & more restaurants & cafes are putting out water bowls for animals-
So remember you are cooling dwn with a cold one – make sure you give your 4 legged mate a drink too & that shelter out of the sun for them as well –
Great stuff Swashes

The food and service are good. The atmosphere is relaxed. Get there early because the parking is limited and the paid-parking that’s close by is really expensive.

Fresh Bluff Oyster(❤ε❤)
Ming Luo (☆ 4/5)

Food was excellent. We loved the natural oysters. So fresh & creamy. Our waiter Louis was awesome – down to earth, funny and genuine. Can’t fault our experience. Our table enjoyed their cocktails, too.
Andi (☆ 5/5)

$2 per oyster during happy hour 3 – 5pm daily! This is the cheapest big oyster I found in New Zealand. It is so fresh and sweet. We even came back for the second time!
The lamb loin is extremely tender and juicy. There are three different sauces on the plate and they are all perfect matches with the lamb, very unique and refreshing.
The poor belly is not to my liking, for the texture is a bit chewy for me.
Li-Chen Lin (☆ 5/5)

Second visit for Happy Hour on the terrace of Oyster and Chop on this occasion we ordered some food of the Bar Menu for the terrace. Happy Hour is from 3-5pm where the house Oysters are $2 each min order of 6. Comes with red wine vinaigrette and lemon. Lovely best value Oysters I’ve ever had. The fish and chips were ok and the fried chicken’s coating was nicely seasoned. I just sensed some attitude from one of the male wait staff so they lost a star for that otherwise the rest of the staff are great. Friendly and warm. One bad apple….. our spend was high because of the drinks we ordered as we people watched the afternoon away on the quayside. Yet to dine in the main room Oyster and Chop restaurant. Looking forward to it.
Bobby W (☆ 5/5)

Very nice location and really really good food, had whitebait fritters, lamb and salmon.
Would have loved dessert, but our waiter forgot we existed at all, so we asked for him after half an hour and finally left 15 minutes later. All tables next to us were served by other waiters regularly several times so we felt forgotten, other waiters didn’t want to help out.
Peter G (☆ 4/5)

Beautiful place, best in the viaduct. Great wine selection and top tier food with generous portions and great service. Super comfortable seating. I was here with a large group ahead of a wedding, Bibi (if I remember her name right!) was fantastic, along with all the rest of the staff. 10/10 all round, will have to try get back here before we go!

Beautiful food and lovely view overlooking the water.
My salad had such beautiful flavours with every mouthful!! Big servings !!
The pate was devine too
We booked for lunch – as had been disappointed before for not booking.
Kirsten Gerrand (☆ 5/5)

I had read about Soul before visiting Auckland so when my husband and I were walking around the harbor and saw it, I needed to try it! The staff was super accommodating for our walk in and seated us right away. Our server was great with recommendations and attentiveness. We got the pea risotto which was so creamy and delicious but the lamb rack was the true star. It was cooked perfectly and the sauces were great. We were celebrating our honeymoon and they even brought out a little desert for us. Highly recommend for the food, staff and vibes!
Kylie Schmidt (☆ 5/5)

WOW. I am blown away by this place. My new favorite spot in Auckland. First off, the vibe in the place is incredible. The entire place is so cute!! If your looking for a place to go and have nice drinks in a gorgeous more upscale environment, i definitely recommend this place for that. Secondly, let me say the service here is outstanding. I worked in miami nightlife, restaurants and bars in america for years and you would think at this place theyre working off tips because they are on top of the service. No waiting to order and super attentive to the table for everything like refilling water, noticing our wines were under half, and clearing dishes immediately. Best service I have had in Auckland since i moved here one year ago. Lastly, the food and drinks were up to par as well. They had a vegetarian menu for me which was amazing and the ricotta tortelli was delicious as well as the goat frais app. My boyfriends prawn & saffron dish was great too. Amazing wine and drink selection too. I cant wait to come back!
Miranda Scheel (☆ 5/5)

A group of friends and I enjoyed a beautiful few hours with a fabulous lunch and service at Soul Bar for my birthday. The food was superb and we were treated like Queen’s. So much variety in cuisine, it was difficult to choose from such a varied menu. The whitebait fritters were divine – more a delicate crepe in lemon butter, just superb, as was the trevally toast, crudo, crayfish crumpet and oysters. My friends devoured their duck gnocchi ragout and commented how tender and delicious it was. A friend who dines at Soul regularly could not bypass the Green Goddess salad and Korean chicken and I will be back for that! We could not fault a single thing. Thank you Soul Bar for a wonderful experience and for my sweet birthday treat at the end of our meal.
Meg Twist (☆ 5/5)

We felt like having a special date night last week, I had been to Soul before just for drinks but had heard the food was exceptional. Despite being a Tuesday night, Soul Bar & Bistro was lively, busy and definitely the place for a fancy date night, work drinks, and family/friends group dinners. The staff are lovely and helpful and food was amazing. I had to try the famous Mac n Cheese – was unlike anything else I’ve had, did not dissapoint! Drinks were really good as well. All round the spot if you have anyone you’d like to take to a nice dinner on the waterfront. Still raving about it- we will be back
Destiny Edwards (☆ 5/5)

Soul Bar & Bistro is definitely one of our favourite places in Auckland, we happened to walk past it multiple times but never had been in until a few weeks ago. We absolutely loved the vibes and you definitely are getting what you pay for, the food was delicious (our favourite would’ve been the green goddess salad, prawn pasta & mac & cheese). We ended up going again last weekend to celebrate a birthday and had a lovely waitress I think from memory called Anessa? She made it super special and was super accomodating! Definitely will be back 🙂
Rose Sato Kwon (☆ 5/5)

I’m so glad I chose Soul to celebrate my graduation! Everything was absolutely perfect — the food, the atmosphere, and especially the amazing staff who were incredibly friendly and kind. The beautiful dessert you brought out made me feel so special — thank you for that sweet surprise! I’m truly happy I picked your restaurant for such an important day. I’ll definitely be back. 10/10 all the way!

Ramon Santos (☆ 5/5)

Toby’s seafood has the best affordable seafood that is fresh and clean. I love their fried fish which starts from $3 per fillet, we also tried their raw mussels for $9 which was so yummy. The place is clean but slightly fishy if you are sensitive to fishy smell.
Lo Jannis (☆ 4/5)

Food is so hearty, delicious, perfectly salted & always fresh/hot. Love the battered mussels, pot fresh mussels & raw fish!! My fav go to shop for fries items
Leo Al (☆ 5/5)

The food was delicious, and portions are great value for money. The staff were quick and attentive and not as rude as I’ve experienced before. Overall, this visit did not disappoint as it was a busy Thursday afternoon, and not a table was empty.
Tianau Tamarua (☆ 5/5)

Great memories from the old FOODTOWN and this great, I think family run firm, surpasses those memories. Some hard case diners often in residence – live entertainment.
Grant George McCombe (☆ 5/5)

Foods awesome, Fried bread goes with anything!! Workmates loved it!! One workmate even toasted one with chocolate inside!!
Kevin Terrey-Ocock (☆ 5/5)

Arrived for Sunday lunch. It was really busy. A variety of choices from breakfast menu, fresh seafood and the regular fish and chips. Stoked to see that they even had fry bread. Just wish that they would drain the oil better for the fried food. You can dine in and take away. Prices are reasonable but it’s definitely the local spot for Sunday church goers needing the food for the tona’i.

Customer Reviews
Visited here on my son’s birthday and had excellent time. The view across the harbour bridge was breathtaking, and the atmosphere was wonderful. We liked the entrees as much as the main courses. Received a surprise birthday plate. The service was outstanding, with a very friendly senior staff.

We had the most unforgettable experience at Sails Restaurant celebrating a special day, and the hospitality was nothing short of exceptional. A special shoutout to Sireli, who went above and beyond to make sure everything felt personal and memorable — he and the entire team made us feel truly celebrated and cared for.
The drinks were next level! We ordered a Pina Colada, Martini, and a virgin cocktail — each one was crafted perfectly and absolutely delicious.
The food and service were equally amazing. The house bread was fresh and flavorful, and the calamari and scallops entrees were simply divine — fresh, tender, and beautifully presented. The highlight was the Surf and Turf with crayfish tail, half crayfish in house sauce, and greens — every bite was bursting with flavor.
To top it all off, the sweets plate with the birthday petit four was the perfect cherry on the cake. We left not just full from the incredible meal, but full of joy from the way we were looked after.
Truly a memorable experience. Can’t recommend it highly enough!

Review from our visit in June 2024
An excellent all-round experience. The balanced menu, attentive service, and chic ambience set the stage for a memorable evening. The wine pairing was thoughtfully selected to enhance each dish perfectly. Highly recommended.

We had a lovely dinner on Sunday. The place was very warm and welcoming, with a beautiful view of the Harbour Bridge, and we were able to engage in our conversation.
For starters, we had pan-seared scallops, breaded scallops, and chicken liver parfait — all were amazing.
Our mains were grilled prawns on lemon risotto and the market fish, which was snapper, served with mashed potatoes, tomatoes, a garden salad, and fries.
For dessert, we had petit fours and crème brûlée with feijoa sorbet.
Amanda Choong (☆ 5/5)

Last time I was at Sails it was pre covid, so wasn’t sure if it was still good with so many fine dining competitors on the scene these days.
Can’t beat the view looking over the Marina and a view of the Harbour Bridge.
Set menu with wine paring overall great flavours and solid pared wines.
The duck was on the quite well done side, hence the 4/5 comparing it restaurants of the equivalent price point.
Well worth a return visit.

If you have a large group, it’s best to book online. We ordered a Medium Lobster Tray and a Bundle Bag to share between 4 Adults and 4 Children, with some sides of Rice and Gold Crispy Fries. The Lobster Tail is the best. The Prawns, Mussels and Crabs were yummy too. The Crawfish was ok. They give you gloves and an apron, as it can get quite messy eating with your hands. Overall, great flavours and service

Food was just amazing! Great value for money, I recommend going all out with a few friends/family. Staff were so friendly and the atmosphere was such a cool vibe. Playlist was lit too! We were so happy & satisfied at the end. Thanks team, we’ll be back

My first time to dine in a Seafood Boil house and I can say, it really surprised me. It was so delightful. Im really happy and satisfied. Food is great! I will come back again.
alonzov94 BA (☆ 5/5)

Food is satisfying, flavourful, and wonderful to share, albeit pricey. Reservation is strongly required given the long queue of diners and customers that Sunday lunchtime. The place gets crowded with people either gazing at your food with curiosity or staring at you with impatience. I love seafood, and I can’t wait to go back for another treat. Or a takeaway next time.
Gilbert LAMAYO (☆ 4/5)

Manaia Seafood Boil in Auckland is a must-try for seafood lovers! The crabs are absolutely massive and packed with flavor—fresh, juicy, and perfectly cooked. Every bite is a treat! One suggestion: mixing the crabs with garlic and butter would take them to the next level, adding even more richness and depth to the taste. Highly recommended!
P Sha (☆ 5/5)

Yummy!!!
Heard heaps of good of this place from all sources of channels, this is my very first time here to try.
Lucky enough to be arranged a table without booking in advance. Business is so good, people just come and go, nonstop, including takeaway orders.
Island style seafood with all the spices, simply just delicious
Even with gloves you still kind of want to lick your fingers.
Fried bread and the mango shake are the best mates to go with your meal.
Love it!

还行吧家人都挺喜欢,我个人喜爱甜食,但是他家麻团和菠萝包都不够甜。甜点做的尽量不甜是时髦,不喜欢是我自己的问题。
Shoutaloud (☆ 4/5)

Great place to enjoy yumcha. It is located in Auckland CBD, huge variety of food to choose. Lovely staff, and very fair price. Their dimsum was made freshly, and the desserts were also great.
Hermione Le (☆ 5/5)

This could be my most favorite Yum Cha spot in Akl. Highly recommend! Very attentive staff, great food & it was busy when we visited during lunch time. Favorite items were the baked oysters, century egg Congee, Turnip cake, Taro puffs, pineapple custard buns & the greens. All food was delicious & the tea was a nice touch ✨
S M (☆ 5/5)

I went for yamcha with my colleagues yesterday. The place is nice and offers private rooms for added privacy.
I recommend making a reservation and arriving early, as there can be a long wait if you’re late. We had a 90-minute dining limit.
However, the service was quite disappointing. We experienced a situation where the waiter served us food we didn’t order; they simply dropped it on our table and noted it on the order sheet. It’s important to inform them if you receive something you didn’t request.
I recommend trying the spicy fried chicken and the roasted pork.
Christina (☆ 4/5)

Food is delicious and they still have carts to let you select the dimsum you want. But they will try to put dishes in your table if you don’t know how to say no. Sauces is self serve.
Hydi Ng (☆ 4/5)

One of the better Dum Sum restaurants in Auckland. Authentic in food taste and service. Recommend!
Henry Harrison (☆ 4/5)

Came here for lunch and got served straight away. Food is delicious and service is great! Only down side is that it is much pricier than other yum chas.

8/10 Review for Tony’s Lord Nelson Restaurant, Auckland
From the outside, Tony’s Lord Nelson looks like a modest little shop—but step inside and you’re instantly immersed in a warm, historic atmosphere that makes you feel part of something special. The ambiance is inviting, with a classic charm that sets the mood just right. Their drink menu is impressive, and the steak selection is massive. I went for the 5-bone steak, which was incredibly tender—some parts could be cut with just a fork. I ordered it medium-rare but it came out closer to medium. Still enjoyable, though the flavor was a bit flat and could’ve used a touch more seasoning or spice. Overall, a solid experience with lots of character. Would definitely return.
Julio Yanes (☆ 4/5)

Went here for dinner and the food was absolutely stunning. The waiting staff were very nice, even when my partner wanted a slight change, they were very quick to help. The steaks themselves were very delicious and tender, and loved the 1970~ esc vibe of the restaurant. A very authentic finish to this restaurant in the CBD! Will definitely come again.
Avarage (☆ 5/5)

I went with almost 20 Japanese friends — the place is spacious and perfect for groups. I tried the Rack of Lamb and Lamb Shank, and both were delicious! They’re famous for lamb and it really shows. Great quality food at a fair price. Would definitely come back [:
Diary Beautysmile (☆ 5/5)

Not going to lie, we are serious meat eaters in our house so my suggestion for dinner was quickly ignored once the Favourite Husband honed in on the “TOMAHAWKS” sign ahead, like a heat seeking missile.
It was like stepping back in time as we entered the restaurant and were seated in a booth and surrounded by brick walls and leather seating. I love all things retro, it’s why I married the Favourite Husband, so I was down for it. And the menu didn’t disappoint. There was pate and prawn cocktail and so many mains I was overwhelmed with choice. The super friendly staff immediately offered to take our drinks order which is a big hit with me. Nothing worse than sitting around waiting for a drink.
We went full retro and ordered the pate and the prawn cocktail as we both fancied both so we could share. (Loosely translated as I wanted both and couldn’t make my mind up so the Favourite Husband appeased me!) I also liked that we were able to order the entrees and then order the mains afterwards which helped stretch the meal out for us. We eat lots and at pace, so this is a good way to slow down and enjoy the evening rather than just the food.
The pate was nice, although the toast could have been a little crispier with a bit longer in the toaster. The prawn cocktail was absolutely delicious. Very generous on the prawns and a nice hint of heat in the sauce.
Then it was on to the steak. The greedy man Favourite Husband went with the tomahawk steak and a side of vegetables and I went with the fillet bernaise and some onion rings. (I really need to go on a diet come Monday …)
The steaks were cooked to perfection and had a lovely, tasty char to them. The bernaise sauce was silky and full of tarragon flavour. The onion rings were hot and crispy and not too greasy.
The service was friendly and we felt it was good value for money considering the standard of the steaks in particular. If you want simple food, done well, this is the place for you.
Caroline Cameron (☆ 4/5)

I was in the city for a couple of meetings and decided to get something to eat on my own. I was made welcome and was delighted that it was steak on special for lunch. The steak was perfect and cooked exactly as I had requested.
It’s been a while since I have been to Tony’s but I will be back again.
Good food, good price and friendly service.
Mark (☆ 5/5)

Don’t go! The food is terrible. They pre-cooked them before u arrived. The fries tasted like stone. Obviously cooked twice. Pork rib was not grilled. Side veggies only a few pieces with plenty carrots. Only chowder soup seems to be normal. Credit card surcharge is over 2%.
