It’s been a week since my septorhinoplasty at Southern Cross Gillies Ave, and I wanted to share my experience because I was truly impressed—especially after dreading the procedure. From start to finish, the level of care I received was exceptional. Every staff member, from reception to intake to aftercare, was incredibly kind and attentive, making me feel at ease.
A special shout-out to Chisato and Aoise, who were outstandingly thoughtful nurses. I also really appreciated the hospital’s follow-up call the next day, which was helpful (especially since my surgeon didn’t check in at all?!).
The facility itself was modern and spotless and actually had a calm welcoming vibe —nothing like I envisioned. This experience completely changed my perception of Southern Cross hospitals.

Nick Walker is our doctor during our pregnancy. His reassurance, guidance and patience has always been so amazing and calming. Had an emergency c section and he is “the best in the industry” (mentioned by many others) and I 100% agree. Recovery has been smooth.

Received the best all-round care from Dr Phillip Beattie and Dr Nicholas Walker (the latter delivered our little one when Phillip had to do a C-Section). It was a relief as first time parents to have the continuity of care throughout the pregnancy, even when we had a little scare at 35 weeks, it was put to ease with our ability to call the clinic and have Phil call us back to discuss what may be happening. The birth went so smooth thanks to the Origins Midwife who was amazing on the day and the aftercare post birth was top notch. I had lactation issues and our aftercare midwife who was also a lactation consultant, gave us great advice and also picked up our little one’s tongue tie within the first two weeks! Thank you team 🙂

Cannot recommend AOC enough. The day our son was born was a pretty busy day for AOC and several doctors were called in for deliveries. We had the wonderful Dr. Lynda Batcheler during most of my labour, and once Dr. Jason Waugh finished up with another delivery, he delivered our son since he was the primary doctor on call. He was swift at making decisions when our son started to struggle during the delivery, and he kept us informed throughout his NICU stay as well, checking on us and our boy every day until we left the hospital. If it weren’t for his quick decision making, I’m not sure what would have happened. We also had the amazing Kay as our midwife, and she was so incredibly supportive and calm throughout the labour and delivery process. Tracey was our post natal midwife, and we still miss her 10 months later – she was truly a gift during such a difficult recovery. When our son was sick at just 2 weeks old, she called my husband on a Saturday morning to help. If we weren’t moving overseas, we would 110% go with AOC and their top notch team for any future pregnancies. Thank you for your amazing care and ensuring our boy arrived safely!

During my delivery/postpartum, I had the privilege of being cared for by an absolute A-team: Dr. Jason Waugh, superstar midwife Ena, and wonderful postpartum midwife Amber.
Ena was nothing short of amazing. I will forever be grateful for her unwavering support, expertise, and kindness throughout the delivery. She made us comfortable from the very first moment we entered the hospital room. As for Dr. Waugh, there are no words needed, he is truly one of the best doctors out there. I trusted him and his decisions completely, knowing we were in excellent hands, no matter what challenges came up.
Amber was an incredible support during my (stressful!) postpartum period. She is so knowledgeable, acting swiftly if there were any issues and providing reassurance when there was no need to worry. We miss her weekly visits 🙂

I chose Shore Women based on recommendations and was assigned Sophia Chen as my main midwife, with Vivian Wei as her backup. Unfortunately, my experience left a lot to be desired.
From the start, communication was confusing. When I went for a scan, I tried to share what the scan centre staff told me, since I wasn’t familiar with the process. Instead of guiding me, the response from the midwife was sarcastic, implying I lacked knowledge and insisting only they could interpret the results. This felt dismissive and disrespectful, especially when I was just trying to understand my own care.
As my pregnancy progressed, things didn’t improve. Near my delivery, both seemed to be juggling other commitments, leaving me feeling unsupported at a critical time. It felt like they were pushing responsibility onto each other rather than focusing on my needs.
Overall, I believe Shore Women should reconsider their partnership with this team. A long working relationship doesn’t automatically mean they’re the best choice for patients. Expectant mothers deserve attentive, respectful, and reliable care, especially when they’re paying for it.
On top of this, if you’re looking for options like an elective C-section or expect a certain level of service, I’d recommend searching elsewhere.

Went in for an annual follow up visit where Dr Maha did a smear test and biopsies, however, have been in pain since then and still bleeding from the biopsy done during that visit. I have done this procedure before and never been in this kind of pain or a long post op bleed (4 days and counting). Everyone has their own experience and gynae is a very personal & emotional experience no matter what stage you go through as a woman. I have had dealings with Shore Woman & Shore Birth spanning 25+ years. I met Vijay Bhoola 21 years ago and he assisted me with a concern after the very premature birth of my daughter (not associated with Shorebirth – it was a medical situation) with care and professionalism & so started a relationship of trust in an important role for me as a woman.
Roll forward to 4 years ago when I had to call on Vijay’s gynae specialist services and he he has been on the journey with me again with professionalism, care and so much that my recent huge operation he called on an extra pair of surgeon’s hands to work with him and to reduce my time under general anesthesia – the operation which was high risk went extremely well. However I developed an unfortunate other medical condition and despite this not being the responsibility of Vijay to manage he has consistently provided further care and follow up as has his amazing side kicks and extremely important members of his team, Marlene, Susan and Sandra have all been so supportive and genuinely caring.
So again my novel recommendation spans 25+ years, different situations and yet I am so happy with the care and professionalism from Vijay and his team. My recommendation is go meet the people and be aware of your own emotions. There could well have been times I could have had a different reaction to my emotions – sometimes I was so poorly and didn’t necessarily agree – but I trusted and stayed the course.
I know I say thank you all the time Team Shore Woman but thank you. (Also a shout out to Judy from Shore Birth – part of the team and assisted me as my post recovery mid-wife some 24 years ago … and we still chat like friends when I see her in the clinic).

4 months ago, I had a surgery performed by Dr Lulu van Eeden, which was the most comfortable surgery and recovery I have ever experienced. Dr van Eeden talked me through the entire procedure beforehand and gave me different options together with pros and cons for each. On the day of the surgery, she met with me again and she addressed all my questions and worries and what I can expect during recovery. The surgery went absolutely fabulous without any complications and my scars are tiny and I have to search for them whenever I want to show them off, because she used a fancy technique that doesn’t require stitches or threads! She even managed to place one of the scars in such a way, that it made an old, ugly scar from a different surgery I had years ago almost entirely disappear
I have had no side effects or complications from my surgery, was excellently taken care of, and would highly recommend Dr van Eeden to anyone. She is extremely competent and really warm and caring and if I ever have any other OB/GYN issues in the future, she will be the one I’ll go to.

The admin service is quite terrible at this clinic. Firstly they do not answer any calls, it goes directly to an automated after hours message even though we called many times during open hours. I had to then book the appointment via email.
In terms of emails and bookings, the responses are really slack. When we managed to book an appointment, they did not tell us who this would be with. My mum’s GP required her to get an appointment as soon as possible with a female specialist and they could not get us one. I can understand all the specialists are quite busy and booked out at least a week in advance but it would have been good if the admin staff were more clear in their responses and provided some solutions for the mean time.
I’ve canceled mum’s appointment and she is going to see another specialist. For a medical clinic I’m quite disappointed with the lack of communication and promptness.

This feedback is about the reception. I did not progress to see Michael East because of the behaviour and tone conveyed to me while enquiring about an appointment. I chose to contact via the methods promoted on the website to find out 1, The cost of an initial consult, and 2, How long that consult would be. I was in pain and severely impacted by the temporary loss of function in my right (dominant hand) among other health problems. I chose to send through the two questions via email. They refused to give me this information and kept pushing me to make an appt by calling them even thought at that stage I never said I wanted an appt. They were blunt, condescending in tone, and rude.I explained why I didn’t want to call, which was the reasons above and that I wanted the info to decide if I wanted an appt. The issue went back and forth resulting in them often saying they “were too busy to send a reply to me by email.” Which I find a completely strange and an unusual argument especially when I had given valid reason why, which I shouldnt even have to do. From my experience they did not match the standard of service compared to other private clinics. Based on the behaviour of the interaction I did not choose to go any further. On a more personal note, when you are exhausted and in pain coming across these types of people who are in key positions of communication with patients, patients who are often very unwell and have been for a long time, it can be extremely detrimental to your health and ability to advocate for yourself when you behave this way to patients. If you need help in understand and up-skilling in how to communicate with patients (your customers) better than you are welcome to reach out to me anytime.

The receptionist is absolutely horrible. I asked my gp to send a referral letter for insurance to their office, and when I then emailed the Michael East receptionist asking for a copy of this referral, she refused to give it to me. I then called at a later date to again try get it sent to me, and from the receptionist I received a snobby, condescending attitude, and she yet again refused to send me the referral from my gp, saying she couldn’t understand why I was wasting her time asking for it when I can get it from my gp who sent it instead. Disgusting attitude. Would never recommend this place to anyone EVER.

I just wanted to come on here to highly recommend Repromed especially Dr Karen Buckingham and all the nurses. We have been involved with Repromed over a year now and the care and service is absolutely exceptional. I just underwent an egg retrieval and I felt like the entire process was wonderful. All the nurses especially Bernadette and the surgical staff I worked with were without a doubt the most kind and caring people I have ever meet. They always had time for my hundreds of questions. They were flexible and accommodating and I always felt so cared for. Dr Karen Buckingham was absolutely amazing and I would recommend her for anyone going through IVF or egg retrieval. She was so lovely and intelligent and really wonderful at her job. She even came to work on her day off to make sure I got a scan when I needed one. Me and my partner were lucky enough to have this as an option for us and I cannot express how lovely the staff are here.
Every encounter was a kind one, from the reception, phone calls, emails, follow ups, embryologist, doctors, you name it! And with a successful birth story for us, they checked in on us afterwards to congratulate our pēpi which I found the most comforting.

Extremely disappointed with their service. It feels like you’re nothing but a number. They just whisk you in and out. No extra care, no advice, nothing. I’d been going to them for Ovulation Induction for 5 months and finally an IUI on the 6th month. Each month you only get to see the doctor once, when they do the ultrasound. Meeting the doctor Discussing and your options would cost extra. You can’t even get to have a conversation without putting a bill on it I had the same treatment done overseas and they would schedule multiple scans instead of blood tests- it made it easier to accurately predict the day of ovulation on the dot and made it easier on the body. Wish they made that common here. The back to back blood tests made my iron levels drop by multiple digits which really didn’t help my overall condition. We finally decided we would go for an IUI and they butchered the timing. Considering I’ve been going for 5 months prior they should’ve been aware of my ovulation timing. To make it worse I took the initiative and REMINDED the nurses and the doctor that I ovulate earlier than the scheduled injection day- to which they assured that once they give me the HCG injection the whole process would just stop and wouldn’t resume until 36 hours later. Lo and behold when the day arrived, I ended up ovulating HOURS prior to the scheduled injection time. I felt the ovulation pain and knew the whole process was ruined. And when I brought this up later with the nurses all I got was a sympathetic nod and “we’ll note that down next time”. We don’t have 2000$ lying around for a next time. I never went back. Utterly disappointed. Please consult elsewhere.

Had a great experience with egg freezing with Repromed. Everyone is super friendly, informative, and encouraging. I found the nursing team especially caring and thorough. I’m really happy with the results I got and the care I received from consultation through recovery.
It’s not cheap, but reasonable considering what it is, and costs were about what I expected and what I was quoted at the start.
Would recommend to anyone seeking similar fertility treatment in Auckland.

Omnicare is a lovely clinic in remuera. I met with Dr Angela Cross. The staff were lovely, she is very friendly but I didn’t feel that she really looked into my problem. She took my results from few years ago and suggested 3 options. I get migraines close to my heavy periods and she suggested a pill that contain both progesterone and estrogen. I went for a 2nd opinion and was told I should not take it if I get migraines. Wasn’t quite satisfied that no scan was done even though I complained about pain/cramps. Would look for a different gynaecologist in future who is more thorough.

I took my daughter for her first appointment with a gynecologist at Omni Care – Dr Chern Lo. It was the most wonderful informative experience, where my daughter felt listened to. Dr Lo gave empathetic and professional care that she came away from feeling deep understanding and reassurance. She was so friendly and helpful, happy to explain the human body and my issues in depth. After my surgery I was put under the care of Sally Pritchard for physiotherapy, and again I had a great experience with her. My journey with Omnicare lasted for approx 5 months I think, and I was always excited to go knowing I was getting a step closer to recovery each time. Southern Cross were also amazing and I felt a huge level of respect from them concerning my body.
