This was our second fishing trip with Ultimate Fishing Charters, and once again, they absolutely nailed it. Right from the start, Jackie made booking a breeze—friendly, organised, and had everything sorted before we even stepped on the boat.

They were great, from cooking our barbecue, providing neat little fishing tips and finding a good spot to drop the anchor and get heaps of bites. Also..when you dont bring enough bait to last long , they have backup ready and invoiced after the trip which was very much appreciated. 5-star service! We went on two trips with Explore while we were in Auckland: one whale tour and one trip to Tiritiri Matangi. The latter was fabulous, quick, and virtually seamless. The former turned out to be 6 hours ferrying other groups of passengers between various ports while we incidentally found a pod of dolphins. The dolphin sighting was truly amazing, but it felt like not the best deal for a whole day on the boat. 3 stars for the whale tour, 5 stars for the Tiritiri trip.

There are many marine tours departing from Auckland, but among them, I definitely recommend Explore Group New Zealand! There’s no doubt about it. As a resident of Auckland who often goes on various marine tours with my son, I never imagined there would be a tour that offers such meticulous guidance and commentary, plus a walk on Rotoroa Island, all for $155. However, while we’re used to any rough seas, even people who don’t usually get seasick might feel it on this tour.
Regarding young children, it can be very dangerous for preschoolers. If you have multiple preschoolers, it’s best to reconsider the trip. My son is used to boats, so he can balance his body with the movement, and I brought a safety belt for him on board. Since it’s a long boat trip, some kids might get bored, and it’s a tough journey where strollers can’t be used and carrying children would be challenging. Just because we enjoyed it doesn’t mean I can recommend it for families with small children. This tour is suitable for children who love the sea, are used to boats, and are physically and mentally robust.
If that’s the case, there’s no other company that offers such a wonderful experience at such a low cost for parents and children! For marine tours, it’s Explore Group New Zealand!

It is great experience to watch the dolphins, we also manage to see gannets diving into the sea, it is very nice experience (Not showing the dolphins and gannets in my photo because that’s for you to see 🙂

We did the Explore Auckland Harbor Dinner Cruise and loved it! It’s a nice sail boat you’re on with about 16 folks in total and 3 crew. The crew was great. They explained everything and gave lots of background and info as we sailed. The food was nice and easy to eat while sailing. It does get windy and can be choppy. So be sure to layer. Overall a lovely experience. I highly recommend. It was our favorite excursion so far.

我搭乘的時候其他客人都是西方人，他們講英文閒話家常有點跟不太上所以有時候會有點無聊。

Sailing on an America’s Cup racing ship was an adventure of a lifetime! Many of us enjoyed the opportunity to take the helm.

On the 31st of May 2025 we booked ocean groove cruises to host my wife’s 30th birthday, from the booking right up to the day of the cruise the company has been really amazing. When we arrived to the cruise the staff were super welcoming made our guest feel like at home, we were happy with the professionalism and overall the exceptional service provided a shout out to the 3 lovely staff in the photo thank you for making my wife’s 30th birthday a night to remember we are already finding a reason to host another party soon with use 🙂 if you want a great night to remember I highly recommend ocean groove cruises you won’t be disappointed, definitely the best company out.

The best service from when I booked it to when we entered the boat Thank you to Alex for his communication with booking the boat. It was for a team function/ breakup and the staff plus captain on board was welcoming and we even danced with the workers who were so respectful and full of great energy. Such an easy process with booking and also having the sound system by Bluetoothing our music was super cool. Very affordable price for what it’s worth and will do it again for any of my functions.

Had my 21st celebration with Ocean Groove last night and it was the most wonderful experience! Alex and the team were all lovely and super accomodating and myself and all my guests had the best time, would recommend!

We had my best friends hens do with Ocean Groove Cruises all dressed up as grannies! 16 of us all had the best few hours on board, we got the hens package and the staff were amazing and kept us entertained, hydrated and fed throughout the afternoon! They were extremely helpful, always had a smile on their face and really just gave us the best experience. Alex made the organising and booking of the tour very easy, as well as all the other staff made the day the best. 100% recommend! Will definitely be back! (dressed our ages next time)

I have been on the cruise twice. It’s such a cozy space on the sea with amazing view, good food and your favourite music, plus super friendly and helpful staff. I met Mal last time and I had issue with my credit card for parking. He took care of it by adding my number plate… You guaranteed to have fun here with Ocean Groove Cruise!

What an AMAZING day out on the water!! George, Chris and the team were incredible – they made everything so easy, they were super relaxed, and it was clear that their priority was to make sure we were having a great time from the moment we stepped foot onboard.

The fishing was a great success, everyone caught – a few of our team had never been fishing so was all very exciting! We pulled into a beautiful bay that we had to ourselves and had an impressive lunch prepared by George and the team… and of course some snapper sashimi from the catch.

Zefiro is an amazing boat – ideal for a group, super spacious and well laid out – the perfect set up. I can’t recommend Zefiro, George and his lovely team enough… it will be a day the Lightforce team will never forget!!

What a fantastic day! We booked this charter for our end of year Christmas Party this year and had an amazing day of fishing, eating, drinking and swimming…
The food was incredible and there was more than enough to feed our group of 12. The crew, George, Brett & Hannah were attentive to every need and set the tone for a very relaxed and fun day. George know’s how to run a charter and we can’t wait for another day out on Zefiro! This was easily our best Christmas party to date!

We had our company Christmas party on the F5 last week and we wouldn’t have changed a thing about the day. Monique was an amazing communicator in planning the day, addressing all my questions so promptly. We spent the first week in April 2023 on board the Rua Moana. It was an incredible experience. The vessel is meticulous and crafted with incredible detail. The crew was very attentive to our family of 8. Dining was excellent with three lovely meals each day. Several dinners set to a theme that was fun and delicious. Never ending snacks and beverages. Beach games and island hopping/tours made every day a new adventure. They accommodated my love for fishing which I am most appreciative of. The berth was spacious and comfortable. Spotless with treats on our pillows every night. Relaxing hot tub after a day of swimming and water sports. I can’t write enough praise for the captain and crew for the delightful moments, conversation, safety and attention to detail. Thank you . Jim

Literally best night ever. Booking and organizing was a breezing with Monique and the crew on the night was incredible (and even cooler that they’re all family). The food was so good, Hannah is a legend. We will 110% be back, no doubt (if they’ll have us).

Had a great time on F5. Ken was an excellent skipper and kept us all engaged with sightseeing, swimming and activity options during our cruise. The catering and drinks selection was perfect along with the staff who took care of our every need.

One of the best nights I have ever had, they put on such a good night. The boat was the perfect venue with such kind staff and an amazing DJ to top it off!
One minor thing they could do with improvement is the communication when organising the event, sometimes it was hard to contact the staff which led to a little confusion. Few minor mistakes with the invoices and messaging however was quickly resolved!

Zunächst die positiven Seiten: Die Crew war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Das Essen war in Ordnung, wir hatten vom Halteplatz des Bootes um Mitternacht aus einen guten Ausblick auf das kleine Feuerwerk.
Die Nachteile: Die Musik war in 2 von 3
Aufenthaltsbereichen unfassbar laut – manche Passagiere hatten sich sogar Servietten/ Taschentücher in die Ohren gestopft. Im dritten Bereich hat man dafür wenig von der Stimmung mitbekommen. Die Musik war sehr Bollywood/ indisch lastig und nicht unser Geschmack. Die Getränke waren recht teuer und das Essen zwar ok aber Massenware. Es gab nicht für alle Passgiere fixe Sitzplätze. Um Mitternacht begann das Boot sich zu drehen, weshalb man das Feuerwerk nicht genießen konnte und die Mehrheit der Passgiere ständig am Boot herumlief um das Feuerwerk im Auge zu behalten.
Somit das Fazit: Ganz ok, aber Preis-Leistung passt leider nicht.

The staff and the captain were so friendly and professional and they made it so easy for me to purchase an extra ticket, communication was so easy. There was so much delicious finger food offered and DJ Dan gave us a fabulous night of music the mix was brilliant. Everything was perfect. I highly recommend

We had our wedding aboard the Ocean Eagle. It was absolutely fantastic. Great crew and lots of fun. Many of our guests commented that it was their best wedding experience ever. Would not hesitate to hire the vessel again for another big party.

Had a 21st birthday party here and it was fantastic. The staff were amazing, Kelly was great and so organized, which made planning much easier and completely took the stress out of it. The staff on board were brilliant, and the food just kept coming all night which was great for a bunch of 20 somethings! They were more than willing to accommodate special requests, and they really went above and beyond to make it a brilliant night that I think everyone enjoyed. The views were incredible and we were super lucky to have fantastic weather, but even if it rained it can be fully enclosed so that was not a worry!

Thank you so much Kelly and Meredith, and all the staff on board, you made it into a night that I will remember for a very long time.

Went on a 3 day sailing experience. Skipper Jeremy and crew were amazing. It was a great balance of sailing and walking in 2 nature preserves. The food was 5 star and I was comfortable in my little berth, lulled to sleep by the rocking. We got to swim in the ocean with the safety conscious captain watching out for us. Amazing adventure for the money. They do great work getting youth involved in sailing. Love it!

I went on the 5 day sailing school holiday camp aboard the Lion New Zealand. I had a great time learning to sail, making new friends and develop my leadership skills. Skipper Jo and the crew were amazing always ensuring everyone felt comfortable and eager to learn about sailing. In addition to sailing the week was filled with exciting activities including kayak racing, swimming, a bird sanctuary visit and a movie night. My highlight of the trip, however, was the sunset sail. Watching the sun disappear behind Auckland’s skyline was a magical moment I’ll never forget.
I would highly recommend this camp to any teenager looking for an adventure. It is an opportunity to grow, learn, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Just had a most awesome day aboard Lion New Zealand.

A group of around 25 of us went out to watch the first day of the Americas Cup – World Series race. The race highlight being the final race between American Magic and Team NZ. A very large TV was placed on the foredeck so we could watch the TV footage as well.

However the real highlight was just being aboard this historical race boat – closely followed by an amazing Donut Dip which we had for afternoon tea.

They are taking taking bookings for charters at the start of 2021 for groups to watch the Prada Cup, so worthwhile experience if you want to get close to the action on the water.

Great time sailing the harbour, although we didn’t win the race, the experience is one I will always remember. It was the perfect day, crew were amazing and everything was so well organised. Dont have to be an experienced sailor and could do as much or as little as you like onboard.

We recently had an amazing experience on the red boats a fishing trip with my family, and I can’t recommend it enough! The fishing was fantastic—the staff were incredibly knowledgeable and helped us catch some impressive fish! The family-friendly atmosphere made it easy for everyone to enjoy, from the kids to the adults. We created lasting memories, shared plenty of laughs, and even spotted some beautiful wildlife along the way. If you’re looking for a fun and enjoyable outing, definitely consider the red boats for an adventure!

The sunset cruise on the RED BOATS was absolutely fantastic! From the moment we boarded, the atmosphere was perfect. The staff was friendly and attentive, making sure everyone was comfortable. As we sailed out, the views were stunning. The colors of the sunset reflecting on the water were breathtaking, creating a truly magical experience. I highly recommend this cruise to anyone looking for a memorable evening.

Amazing experience, will definitely do again!

Our first time, a family of 6. Get there early around half hour as apparently the back is the best seats on board if you’re fishing, you will need to take your cooler on board to pop your fish in. Large wooden chopping board at back end of boat which we used for cutting up our baits etc.

We parked in the free parking spaces during the weekend if you type into google maps “public toilet Q Pier” you can park anywhere in the white spaces there, plenty of parks (you’ll have to pay during Mon-Fri) and its a beautiful walk over to z pier along the board walk only 5-10min but worth the stroll

There is a vending machine that sells ice at dock if you’ve forgotten but no bait..

Definitely get pilchards and if your like me and wait last minute to get ur bait definitely do it day before your trip as there’s not much around Sunday

We took a Red Boat outing from Auckland to watch the first day of the America’s Cup races.
The day started off a little bad for us, because nobody knew what boat they were supposed to be on for the day. We were not informed of our boat assignment prior to arrival. There was a lot of confusion, and nobody from the crews would answer questions or tell anyone where to line up until it was time to board. The result for us was that in spite of being one of the first in line that afternoon, we ended up boarding our boat after many others and didn’t have great seats on the boat for watching the races. My wife and I had to sit on opposite sides of the boat for much of the trip.
The boat was pretty old and worn, but functional.
They arrived at the race course just minutes before the race. There were hundreds of boats there already, so they didn’t position us anywhere close to the race course. It was difficult to get photos or feel that we could see enough to be part of the action from our vantage point. The television on top of our boat was jammed into a small seating area and mostly obstructed from view (especially with people trying to get close enough to actually see it). It was difficult to watch any part of the race to know what was happening.

The crew seemed fairly nice but not terribly helpful. We were never sure what to do in terms of when drinks were being served or when to get our food. (Or how…) Also , they refused to serve drinks at the same time that food was being served, (for no apparent good reason- only two people were serving food and other staff were just standing around) and that upset several people.
The food was basic, with a snack box (only one box for two people) before the race with some cheese, crackers, and meats. I had requested vegetarian only, but they didn’t have vegetarian snack boxes, so we couldn’t eat a lot of it, and ended up throwing more than half of it in the trash. At least they had veggie burgers as an option when they fed us after the race, instead of their sausages. There were no chips (crisps) or anything else to go along with the sausages or veggie burgers, either. (You had to pay extra for a bag of chips!) Just a bun and toppings.
We did meet some nice people on the boat, and we ended up having a decent time.
I don’t think that I would use them again for an event like this, or recommend them to anyone else. I guess you get what you pay for…even though I felt that the value for what we paid for our day out was overall fairly poor. Next time, I will pay a little more for a better experience with another company.

We spent the day onboard today with our grandsons fishing. The kids had a great time captain Mike was great with the kids and full of information and ideas. Unfortunately his crew member was too busy talking about his female conquests out loud for every soul onboard to hear. Inappropriate and crass as hell. Remove his unwanted narrative from the day our kids and ourselves had a great time. Cost per person reflected boat and amenities supplied.

We have just booked our 4th fishing trip with Red Boats charter. We have done both the night fishing and the full day charters. We have not been let down by them. We have dealt with Emily in the office and she is super helpful. Mike the skipper is fantastic, he is friendly, absolutely knows his stuff and helpful. He will move the boat if you are not catching anything decent after about half an hour (but as you know it is fishing and there is no guarantee of catching keepers, no skipper can guarantee that but he gives it a damn good go to try to get everyone taking something home). He also puts the boat in the best position for wind etc. We went out on one trip where it was a bit crap weather and a bit rough and his main goal was everyone’s safety but still being able to fish. We have come home with at least 4 keepers every time and have seen baby sharks, stingrays, trevally and plenty of snapper caught on the boat. You can take your own chillybin, food etc., they do tell you approx. how much bait to bring for your trip and it is pretty bang on. They can supply rods ready to go if you don’t have your own. All in all they are our go to when looking for a day out on the water.
