I used to think yoga was all about bending and twisting, leaving you sore afterward. But after 12 hours of continuous training, I didn’t feel any major pain- just a deeper connection with my body. I’m so grateful to my wonderful teacher, Bimbisara, for changing my perspective on yoga.

These sessions were truly a complete experience, filled with wisdom-sharing and powerful, effective asanas that have started a journey of transformation through consistent practices.

Thank you for being so calm and patient, for creating a safe, supportive space where we could all make mistakes, learn, and grow.

I had the privilege of learning yogasanas recently from this wonderful place and continuing my Hatha Yoga journey under the same incredible teacher. Bimbisara Anna is an amazing teacher and has been a tremendous support throughout my practice. I highly recommend everyone to experience it for themselves.

TAUGHT WITH IMMENSE DEVOTION AND WISDOM.
——
Surya Kriya, is a powerful and potent Classical Hatha Yoga practice, which my partner and I recently experienced through a weekend course offered by AdiYoga (Isha Hatha Certified). During this time we were led by our teacher Bimbisara, founder of AdiYoga, who taught Surya Kriya with the utmost devotion and wisdom.

My partner and I have had a long history with, and respect for, the physical benefits of a yoga practice.

It has brought me into deeper relationship with my body, allowing me the freedom to experience a light, strong and powerful state of being. In this way I am not restricted by my bodies.

HOWEVER, I have felt that there is something more to be garnered from the physical practice – that there is something still missing from our relationship with the asanas and the way they’re taught.

What I was missing was the experience of a physical practice that held greater spiritual integrity, significance and application. A practice that liberates both the body AND the mind from restriction.

My partner and I have discovered this with Surya Kriya.

It is a powerful INNER process of activating the sun energy within you – from which the commonly practiced Surya Namaskar sequence is derived.

This training was a wonderful experience, facilitated with deep insight and care by Bimbisara. We feel very grateful for this opportunity to deepen our spiritual practice.

I am immensely grateful for learning Surya Kriya from Bimbisara just a few days ago . It’s abundantly clear that he has taken enormous care to impart the process with precision and within a conducive ambiance.

Sitting with Bimbisara is a true privilege; his indescribably powerful presence allows one to effortlessly imbibe the essence of Hatha Yoga and Sadhguru’s grace . Following the sessions, I noticed a profound effect on my spiritual practice, feeling that Surya Kriya is bringing about a new depth of stillness in me.

If you’re in search of an authentic classic Hatha yoga teacher, missing out on Bimbisara would be a regret. His mastery of Hatha Yoga and depth of being are a valuable gift to our spiritual community in NZ.❤️

I attended Surya Kriya sessions a few weeks ago. The environment was calming and conducive. The teaching process was methodical so that after the two sessions, I was able to practice at home. I was impressed with how much attention has been paid on the details of each posture. The face to face session was very efficient as feedback was given directly. I would be very keen to attend other sessions when I’m ready for the next step.

Quite an intense class if you are a beginner but definitely one of the most challenging hot yoga classes and the class was very hot. You will need a towel and change of clothes as you will be drenched if you do the 90 minute class. I would return but less is more for me. I think there should be more advice given to beginners as they might find it too hot and should take a break. Definitely worth trying and if you want to push yourself. Otherwise, studio was nice and instructor friendly too! 🙂

My friend and I came in for a free class (with mat & towel included according to the promotional card & via email), to see if we would enjoy the class & space as we are looking for a studio we could visit together once a week to compliment our already established exercise routines.
– There was no health & safety waiver, which we both found to be odd as we were expecting to do some high intensity exercises in a heated room.
– Mats & towels were meant to be included in our free trial class. Email correspondence confirmed this, as well as the initial chat with a staff member. When we went to ask for a mat for the class, the same staff member who told us it was included said “that’ll be $4”. There were multiple staff behind the desk who we did not find particularly friendly and felt that they stared at us as though it was silly that we even assumed the mat was included. The staff said we wouldn’t likely need a towel, didn’t give one to us, but then proceeded to charge us for one anyway… so we paid $16. We both have our own mats, and could have brought them if they had just told us to from the beginning.
– The equipment (mats & weights) were incredibly poor quality. The rubber around the weights was falling apart and the metal that was showing through was rusted. The mats were falling apart underneath our feet. Chunks of the mat were coming off as we were doing plank jacks during the class. We felt this was unacceptable. We have been to many studios across Auckland that offer mat hire with higher quality mats at a cheaper fee.
– The instructor for our HIIT Pilates class was absolutely lovely. And we don’t want him to feel that our experience had anything to do with him, but he was/is not ready to be an instructor yet. He was enthusiastic, which we appreciated. But the class did not flow like a normal fitness class should. There was no structure to the class, and there was no proper warm up or cool down which should be an essential part of the class, especially considering the type of exercises that were being done. The class was scheduled to be 45 minutes but we finished in 30. Our instructor didn’t correct form, didn’t inform us what weights to grab, and was not very clear with his instructions (like when to hold, pulse, go slower or faster, etc.). We both did not feel challenged by the workout or had a sense of accomplishment at the end of the class. Again, this is not the instructors fault and want to make it clear that this review is not a reflection of him. We both felt this was the studio and higher managements fault who would have approved him for teaching when he is not ready. That’s not fair for him or for clients, especially the ones who are paying for this.
– Cleaning of the mats included spraying what we hoped was sanitiser in an unmarked spray bottle, and hanging them “to air out” in the same hot room that people are sweating in. We felt this to be unsanitary and can be improved.
We left hiyoga feeling obviously disappointed in the experience, and it’s fair to assume at the end of this review that we won’t be returning.

First time trying yoga in my life. Loved this place!
A lot of beginners friendly classes, where teachers take you through every move so you can get up to speed in no time.
Plus the room is heated up and you can get a real workout out of each session.

Excellent hot yoga class!! My friend and I took the 90 min Monday morning class with Trish. We were just passing through town and wanted to do some Bikram yoga as it’s not widely available where we live. It was such a good class – an absolute treat!! Trish was so kind and welcoming (and a world class teacher) this studio is certainly accommodating for foreigners/ppl passing through town. I deff recommend if you’re local or visiting. Thank you for such a lovely class!

They don’t teach yoga per se. It’s good for the physical, but that’s not what yoga is about. Also traditional yoga isn’t taught in a heated room at 40 degrees with no windows for 90 mins and with no space between participants. This place is very cosy and clean tho, however the classes aren’t ideal for yogis or people looking for a conventional yoga class. It could be suitable for Pilates but the so-called Yoga classes they offer are very Westernised. Vinyassa, Hatha, Yin or Kundalini yoga aren’t offered at all. I believe the name “hiyoga” is misleading. Having said this, the staff is very lovely and kind.

I had the absolute pleasure of facilitating a breathwork journey at Kanuka Yoga Space, and I can’t recommend it enough! The space itself is nothing short of beautiful — serene, peaceful, and thoughtfully designed to create the perfect environment for any wellness practice.

What truly made my experience unforgettable, though, was the communication with Raquel and Stu. From start to finish, they were incredibly welcoming, organized, and professional. Their passion for creating a positive space for people to grow and connect is truly inspiring.

Raquel and Stu’s attention to detail and warm hospitality made the whole process seamless, and I felt completely supported every step of the way. I can tell they genuinely care about the people they work with, and that energy really shines through in everything they do.

I thoroughly enjoyed leading the breathwork journey, and I’m confident anyone who has the opportunity to visit Kanuka Yoga Space will leave feeling uplifted and nourished. I look forward to working with them again in the future!

Thank you, Raquel and Stu, for such an incredible experience!

Just spent the best weekend in a very long time with a retreat run by the incredible Raquel and Stu from Kanuka Yoga. It was everything I could have wished for and more. Some things enough beyond my comfort level to challenge me in a very safe and ‘I’m going to do this’ space; some things within my zone that just added another layer of nourishment and wonderful doses of self well-being. For me, it was a perfectly blended retreat; lots of choice to connect and interact with others and what was on offer, or choose solo-time to enjoy your own time and the beautiful environment. Thank you Raquel and Stu – your personal contributions and style made this yoga retreat so special.

I joined Breathe Yoga in Feb this year and haven’t look back since. The frequency and variety of classes are well thought out.

More importantly, the owners and teachers are all very positive, encouraging and professional. Regardless of your fitness level, you’re made to feel welcome. If you’re new to the classes and feel like you might need more guidance, the teachers are always open to chat and help. If you’ve been thinking about joining for a while, I’d suggest to just give it a go. You won’t regret it.

Rejoined Breathe recently after over 10 years hiatus. The 60 minute classes were a great way to get back into the 90 minute full classes. I love yoga, sauna, and mediation so this hits all these points in one class . Freya Taane and their team are welcoming and supportive. The weekly membership is good value and fits with my changing schedule, as there are so many classes at convenient times. Highly recommended

Breath Yoga studio is a true gem in our community. The moment you step inside, you’re enveloped by a wonderful, calming ambience that sets the tone for your practice. This serene atmosphere is no accident – it’s been lovingly crafted by the studio’s founders, Freya and Taane, two genuinely kind souls whose warmth and authenticity shine through in every aspect of the space.
What sets Breath Yoga apart is not just its excellent range of classes and workshops, but the inclusive environment they’ve fostered. Freya and Taane have created a sanctuary where everyone feels welcome and can truly be themselves, regardless of their capabilities or experience level. This accepting attitude permeates the entire studio, making it a place where both beginners and seasoned practitioners can thrive.
The Bikram classes are particularly noteworthy, with teachers who are incredibly caring and thoughtful in their approach. They guide you through the challenging sequences with encouragement and attention to detail, ensuring you get the most out of each session safely.
For those seeking deep relaxation, the Yin classes are a godsend. These sessions provide a much-needed opportunity to slow down, switch off from the outside world, and reconnect with yourself. The gentle, prolonged poses combined with the studio’s tranquil atmosphere create the perfect conditions for unwinding and releasing tension.
Perhaps what I appreciate most about Breath Yoga is the strong sense of community it fosters. It’s more than just a place to practice yoga; it’s a hub where like-mindedindividuals come together, support each other, and grow both on and off the mat. The friendships formed here extend beyond the studio walls, creating a network of positivity that enriches all our lives.
In a world that often feels hectic and disconnected, Breath Yoga offers a peaceful haven where you can nurture your body, mind, and spirit. Whether you’re looking to challenge yourself physically, find inner calm, or simply belong to a welcoming community, this studio has something special to offer. Freya, Taane, and their team have created something truly beautiful here – a space that nourishes the soul as much as it strengthens the body.If you’re seeking a yoga studio that offers more than just physical practice, look no further than Breath Yoga. It’s a place where you’ll find growth, peace, and a true sense of belonging. Namaste.

The studio has a great vibe, and I felt welcomed from the moment I stepped through the door.
The Instructors get the best out of you during a session and are happy to answer questions before/after class. One of those conversations improved my practice tremendously.
Well-priced with concession options with pay online or in-store. The schedule for classes is well thought out and I particularly like the APP for booking classes.

Hot Yoga has given me the best night’s sleep I’ve had in ages, my skin is glowing, and my posture has improved. I am taking off excess weight. My mind is clear and calm, and a side effect of I didn’t expect to experience is an improvement in my memory. But the best thing is the issues I had recovering from hip surgery are resolving and I see and feel improvement after every class I attend.

Thank you Breathe Yoga, you are simply the best!

I recently joined Golden Yogi, and it all began with meeting Katie Vinson, who truly embodies the knowledge and essence of holistic yoga. That first encounter inspired me to explore more of what this beautiful space has to offer. I now practice daily yoga through the classes they provide—whether it’s an early 6am start, a mid-morning 9:30am session, or something over the weekend.

The teachers here are friendly and welcoming, and there’s a real sense of community in the space. Monika, the owner, has created a sanctuary right in the heart of busy Takapuna. It’s like a hidden gem, quietly shining in its own corner, offering calm and stillness in the midst of everyday life.

If you’re looking for a yoga studio that offers accessible classes for all ages, bodies, and budgets—don’t hesitate to check this place out. They have flexible pricing options, which makes it easier to start wherever you’re at.

Each yoga teacher brings their own unique flavour and approach, which means there’s room to explore and find the teacher that best suits your needs. So let’s grow this community together. Come visit this amazing space—because sometimes, you just know when a place is calling you home.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that today is my 100th class at Yoga Academy since I joined in March.

Since I moved to Auckland from Christchurch, this has been my favorite place to go after work. It has a great practice environment, professional teachers, and very nice member friends.

The teachers here are very professional, and each teacher has his or her personal style, so you can always find a teacher you like. Barry’s classes are my favorite, he is always full of energy, can see your potential that you don’t even realize, and encourages you to challenge yourself. Akiko’s restorative yoga is the best class for body repair, and I’ve fallen asleep in her class several times.Peter’s classes give your body precise compliant practice; you can always feel safe and enjoyable in his classes. Shona is a graceful lady who always has a beautiful smile on her face, and her smile makes Ashtanga less difficult for me.

If you’re thinking about starting a yoga practice, don’t miss here.

One of the best yoga studio in Auckland so far! I have tried soooo many yoga studio in Auckland since I moved here last year and this is by far the best. So pure, classic, and aligned with my energy. Absolutely worth the try if you’re still looking or want something more traditional and classic one without the other unnecessary stuff. Just pure yoga practice, breathing, and amazing people.

The teachers are also the best ones. I found it sometimes frustrating when I met yoga teacher that is “fake” and no connection or whatsoever to the yoga practice itself. Not here.
They’re all very kind, super friendly, and absolutely knowledgeable about yoga. Peter and Jude are the people you want to talk if you want to know or interested in finding out about yoga.

Oh, don’t worry about the parking as the yoga studio is really close to Civic Car Park!

Go on and check this place out 🙂
Namaste

The Yoga Academy is my go-to happy place. After learning different yoga styles with different teachers, I came across Ashtanga through the Yoga Academy 4 years ago, and was in love with it the first class. The teachers are deeply experienced and devoted, the community of practitioners is warm and caring. I’d recommend it to anyone who would like to develop and deepen their practice in a beautiful and safe space.

I say do everything you can to get to the Yoga Academy – your body, mind and soul will thank you for it. It’s a calm sanctuary where you’ll be given expert guidance, technical support and adjustments (if you choose) from exceptional teachers. The Yoga Academy is the real deal – steeped in the remarkable authenticity, deep knowledge and dedication to a yogic lifestyle of its Directors, Jude and Peter. I have attended over many years, and consider it one of the true gems of Auckland, just can’t speak highly enough of the place… suitable for any level of experience too…

I have known the Academy for 20 years and the teaching, practice and wairua has always been a beacon of clarity, compassion and calm in my world. Jude and Peter work in close rapport to ensure everyone who comes to the Academy is sure to gain practice and perceptions that will enrich and nurture their growth and wholeness. Yoga has become so many things for so many people, and the beauty and power of the Academy is that everyone is welcomed and supported to journey into this ancient process in a way that will bring them to their centre. As we come from the pandemic into the world again, this is a place that can help us all build a bridge between our inner life and the communities around us.

Wherever I go, I always look for a yoga studio. I’ve been practicing Hot Yoga for 10 years, and when I moved to Auckland a year ago, I was determined to find a place to continue my practice. After careful research, I tried East West Yoga, and it became my favorite immediately. The teachers, the classes, the atmosphere, the attention to clients, the cleanliness, the facilities, and the overall infrastructure are all outstanding. I also appreciate the promotions, workshops, and reasonable pricing. I can honestly say that this is the best studio I’ve ever tried.

By far my favourite yoga studio. Every teacher and practitioner is dedicated to their practice and you can definitely feel that when you step in the room. Huge fan of the Ashtanga 75 with Sheryn. She’s amazing and her style of teaching is calming and inclusive, but it also pushes you. Definitely less of a beginners class but as my first foray into Ashtanga, I loved it. Will be back when I’m back in NZ!!

I took three classes with Kristy at the introduction rate: yin 90, alignment, and a myofascial release yin. I’m only passing through, but Kristy took the effort to make me feel welcome. That isn’t always the case with other studios when they know you may not be a repeat client. She’s a great instructor, and I’ll be sure to recommend to my Bali yoga friends and stop by when I’m in Auckland again.

I am sleep deprived and a beginner at yoga and my friend is sleep deprived and expert yogi and we both enjoyed Melissa’s classes a lot. Great to go for coffee at Ozone with the mums afterward too. Thank you Melissa and Basecamp.

Sandy is the owner now but I have been coming here years ago with Cat, who set up this beautiful studio space.

Recently I’ve discovered Sandy is a trauma yoga teacher, among other trainings, and does an outstanding restorative nidra class, 12:15pm Wednesday lunchtime. It’s so grounding that I might have fallen asleep for the 1st time ever in 30y of yoga practice, in a class!

You will love the space.

Car parking has just got harder so parking in the street is now my preference.

I did one class here and liked it. Warm room, nice flow class. The second time, I booked in one hour before class, I had trouble finding a park and got there one minute late and the door was locked. I phoned. I texted. No one replied, even the next day. I emailed a week later. Nothing. Very unfriendly and unhelpful approach, folks… I won’t be returning

What types of yoga classes are offered in Auckland?

Yoga centers in Auckland typically offer a variety of classes to cater to different skill levels and preferences. Common styles include Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Bikram, and Yin yoga. Many centers also provide specialized classes such as prenatal yoga, restorative yoga, and meditation sessions to accommodate the diverse needs of practitioners.

How do I choose the right yoga center for me?

Choosing the right yoga center involves considering several factors. Look for a center that offers classes in the style of yoga you are interested in and check the qualifications of the instructors. Additionally, consider the location, class schedule, and the overall atmosphere of the center. Reading reviews and visiting for a trial class can also help you make an informed decision.

Are yoga classes suitable for beginners?

Yes, many yoga classes in Auckland are designed specifically for beginners. These classes usually focus on introducing fundamental poses, breathing techniques, and proper alignment. Instructors often provide modifications to help newcomers feel comfortable. It’s advisable for beginners to communicate their experience level to the instructor to receive appropriate guidance.

What should I wear to a yoga class?

When attending a yoga class, it’s best to wear comfortable clothing that allows for a full range of movement. Many practitioners opt for yoga pants, shorts, or leggings, paired with a breathable top. Avoid overly loose clothing that may get in the way during poses. Additionally, consider bringing a yoga mat if the center does not provide one.

Do I need to bring my own equipment?

Most yoga centers in Auckland provide essential equipment such as yoga mats, blocks, and straps. However, many practitioners prefer to bring their own mats for hygiene and comfort. If you have specific equipment you use regularly, such as a blanket or bolster, you may want to bring those along as well.

How often should I practice yoga?

The frequency of yoga practice can vary based on individual goals and schedules. For beginners, attending classes two to three times a week can provide a solid foundation. More experienced practitioners may choose to practice more frequently, potentially including home practice on non-class days. Consistency is key to seeing progress, so find a schedule that works for you.

What are the health benefits of practicing yoga?

Practicing yoga can offer numerous health benefits, including improved flexibility, increased strength, and enhanced balance. It can also promote relaxation, reduce stress, and improve mental clarity. Regular practice may contribute to better posture, enhanced lung capacity, and overall physical and emotional well-being.

Are there any age restrictions for yoga classes?

Most yoga centers welcome practitioners of all ages, from young children to seniors. Many centers offer specialized classes that cater to specific age groups, such as kids yoga or senior yoga. It’s important for individuals to choose classes that suit their physical abilities and comfort levels, and to consult with instructors if there are any concerns.

Can yoga help with stress relief?

Yoga is widely recognized for its ability to alleviate stress and promote relaxation. The combination of physical postures, controlled breathing, and mindfulness practiced in yoga can help reduce tension and anxiety. Many practitioners find that regular yoga practice provides a sense of calm and improves their overall mental health.
