If you are considering whether or not to do this cruise, consider no more. It is more than worth it in every respect. The organization of the crew to boarding and what to expect, the friendliness of all of the staff during the cruise, and the knowledge that was shared were all exceptional. We definitely got to see dolphins on the tour and the enthusiasm when we would come across a pod of dolphins was contagious. This was a fantastic trip and more than worth the price. My 19 year old son and I had a fantastic time and it was not only an excellent way to end our visit to New Zealand, the friendliness and honest focus on ecology and conservation that seems to permeate the entire country was very much encapsulated by this experience. A perfect bookend to our trip and most highly recommended.

We were in two minds whether to do this trip but were so glad that we did. We spent over 4 hours at sea and whilst we had our fingers crossed that we would catch some glimpses of sea-life we weren’t prepared for the spectacle that awaited us. The skipper, Graeme, took us out into the Gulf and the crew members (Sonaa, Toni and Cayla) gave us insights into the Gulf’s marine wildlife. We were treated to a real extravaganza as the dolphins raced ahead of us and then started to herd fish. A whale joined them, ploughing through the centre of the fish, and then the gannets dive-bombed the water. It was like an episode from one of David Attenborough’s documentaries. It was a magical afternoon although I think we might have been particularly lucky that day. Some lovely memories to bring home.

The crew is amazing – very informative and kind, very dedicated to their mission towards the animals, the environment but also the guests. Make sure the weather will be good while you attending, because on the sea the weather is getting much worse than on the shore. Don’t stay in the splash zone right from the start, stay inside and only go out when and if you find dolphins/whales. We only encountered the common dolphin and we received a voucher to repeat the experience because of that. Thank you crew, it was lovely.

On the 31st of May 2025 we booked ocean groove cruises to host my wife’s 30th birthday, from the booking right up to the day of the cruise the company has been really amazing. We had my best friends hens do with Ocean Groove Cruises all dressed up as grannies! 16 of us all had the best few hours on board, we got the hens package and the staff were amazing and kept us entertained, hydrated and fed throughout the afternoon! We went on two trips with Explore while we were in Auckland: one whale tour and one trip to Tiritiri Matangi. The latter was fabulous, quick, and virtually seamless. The former turned out to be 6 hours ferrying other groups of passengers between various ports while we incidentally found a pod of dolphins. The dolphin sighting was truly amazing, but it felt like not the best deal for a whole day on the boat. 3 stars for the whale tour, 5 stars for the Tiritiri trip.

There are many marine tours departing from Auckland, but among them, I definitely recommend Explore Group New Zealand! There’s no doubt about it. As a resident of Auckland who often goes on various marine tours with my son, I never imagined there would be a tour that offers such meticulous guidance and commentary, plus a walk on Rotoroa Island, all for $155. However, while we’re used to any rough seas, even people who don’t usually get seasick might feel it on this tour.
Regarding young children, it can be very dangerous for preschoolers. If you have multiple preschoolers, it’s best to reconsider the trip. My son is used to boats, so he can balance his body with the movement, and I brought a safety belt for him on board. Since it’s a long boat trip, some kids might get bored, and it’s a tough journey where strollers can’t be used and carrying children would be challenging. Just because we enjoyed it doesn’t mean I can recommend it for families with small children. This tour is suitable for children who love the sea, are used to boats, and are physically and mentally robust.
If that’s the case, there’s no other company that offers such a wonderful experience at such a low cost for parents and children! For marine tours, it’s Explore Group New Zealand!

We did the Explore Auckland Harbor Dinner Cruise and loved it! It’s a nice sail boat you’re on with about 16 folks in total and 3 crew. The crew was great. They explained everything and gave lots of background and info as we sailed. The food was nice and easy to eat while sailing. It does get windy and can be choppy. So be sure to layer. Overall a lovely experience. I highly recommend. It was our favorite excursion so far.

Olly was GREAT! Because of some overcast skies, my wife and I got a solo trip. Olly was quite knowledgeable and made sure we got to see all of the sites as promised. Best of all Olly found a place with some smoother seas which gave my wife and I a chance to switch positions and let her drive the JetSki and feel confident in doing so. As first timers, my partner and I had the best time jetskiing! We were the only ones booked that day, so it felt like a private tour. Despite the uncertain weather, we rescheduled to a better time that ended up with sunshine which worked out well. Olly was awesome! We had the opportunity to reschedule to a calmer sunnier day due to Auckland’s unpredictable weather patterns and I found this so helpful it made the journey easier and being a calm day we really got the most out of this fun experience! Everywhere else that hires em, charges anywhere from $500-$1000 bond. Sea Auckland doesn’t charge a bond. Even better , they take you out and show you hidden gems you didn’t even know existed .
It was our first time on a jetski, so we felt so much better with a tour guide.
Once we had a tour, Olly parked up and gave us a designated space to have a play . Honestly, this brought my inner child out lol. Such great fun!

Really enjoyed our return trip from Auckland City to Waiheke Island for a football match. We booked tickets online which was easy and I highly recommend. Also recommend getting there at least 40 minutes early to queue to ensure you get on. Journey is approximately 40 minutes. There is a shop you can purchase food and drink from (we didnt). Good toilet facilities providing free sanitary products for women. We unfortunately arrived back at the pier around 4.50pm and joined a long queue to catch the 5pm return ferry home but could not get on as it was full and had to wait for the 6pm ferry. There was a small cafe open so we were able to purchase a coffee and snack which helped pass the hour. Really enjoyed the return ferry ride to Auckland at night time. It was great being able to go upstairs on the roof area. The lights and views coming back into town was spectacular. Highly recommend a trip to Waiheke Island and catching the evening ferry to see the night lights ❤️

Very excellent experience getting into the Island and back. It was a little choppy on the way back but nothing beyond splash and some excitement.

When in Auckland, another experience not to miss is Waiheke Island. I was not expecting much of it, but wow, what a magical island this is! Many wineries to visit and beautiful landscapes.
The service of Fullers 360 with the boat and bus combo ticket is totally worth its money. Stop at the major stops on most of the island. We came in low season and the bus was once per hour which was a bit annoying sometimes, but with some planning you can do it.
We even saw a pod of dolphins on the way back with the ferry!
Really appreciated the bus driver named Victor, he was such an amazing and funny man and provided us with so much information while driving us around on the island. Give that man a raise!

Was a nice harbour cruise. Staff was helpful and quick to help without asking. The cruise itself was good, and to end it off with taking a photo of the sky tower in between Queen & Princess Wharf – stunning! Good for a little day trip etc. The only thing I would suggest is for the speaker on top deck to be abit louder as you can’t hear much.

Amazing experience with wonderful attentive staff! Myself and 17 friends took the Riverhead ferry over to the Riverhead Inn for dinner to celebrate my friend’s 30th birthday on Saturday 21st March.. just before lockdown began. We had the best experience and felt very safe ..extra measures were taken including a reduced service and readily available alcohol gel in light of the circumstances. This did not dampen the experience however. The views on both the journey there and back were beautiful and the staff bent over backwards to assist us, including dimming the lights and putting on fairy lights for the night cruise back and also allowing us to play our own music through the speakers. We couldn’t have had a more perfect evening, thank you very much.

We booked the Riverhead Ferry to the historic Riverhead Tavern for our work Christmas party. Captain Holger was exceptionally accommodating with my questions leading up to our event; and in hosting our group of 30 staff. Zoe was super amazing-taking care of us right throughout the journey. The Auckland Wharf Building is an iconic building that has been in existence for over a hundred years and is a retro Victorian building. He was originally a wharf association and now it has become a hotel. Overlooking the entire Auckland pier on the dock building, it is very beautiful. It is also the background of the red photo taken at the Auckland Pier. It is definitely worth a look.

I would give these people 100 stars if I could! It was such a breeze dealing with Denielle on booking a charter and suggesting to not over order food and true enough, there were A LOT of food. Absolutely loved our function on Savoy. We organised a 4 hour Mediterranean cocktail party with 44 guests and had an evening cruise over to some of the islands. Some people even got to paddle board. At first I wasn’t sure how crowded it would be with 44 guests but when we all got on the boat felt perfectly spacious. Plenty of room to have a dance too. The crew were amazing also, handing our bubbles on arrival and ensuring all of the food came out at the right time. Thank you Savoy. Definitely recommend Savoy Charters.

Booked Savoy for an amazing experience in NZ to celebrate my birthday. We left from Whangaparaoa (Gulf Harbour) across to Waiheke and whilst it wasn’t the most fabulous trip across due to weather, we pulled up in a gorgeous and secluded bay and had a delicious gourmet BBQ lunch on board (thank you Leann). The team onboard were really professional and provided excellent service. Must also do a special shout to Caro who took my booking and explained everything so well and made my decision to go with Savoy really easy! Highly recommend.

Amazing!!! My family and I were travelling the whole of NZ, doing incredible activities like the dark sky reserve, lake Dunstan bike trail etc etc, and we all agreed that the day out on the boat was our holiday highlight.
Both Russell and Karen were incredibly hospitable, and made us feel really welcome.
Swimming in the most beautiful blue waters and arriving back onto the boat to the smell of BBQ was just dreamy.

Had the most amazing experience on Sunkiss, a day trip in Auckland and hands down it was the best work trip our group had ever done. Relaxing, fun, gorgeous scenery, first swim of the season…delicious food and drinks…and if that wasn’t enough, best hosts ever. Had a wonderful evening. Loved being on the water and seeing the sunset while having our mouthwatering dinner cooked by Russel. Both Russel and Karen were very accomodating – they answered questions we had about boats, sailing, and life, and had cool drinks on board for the hot evening.
