We had sold our business and were renting 950km away, so we chose them due to their website statements of "Completion Date Guarantee" and "Signature Homes built its reputation on building beautiful, architecturally designed homes across New Zealand....'
The design process and land title took 61 working weeks, then slab re-design, roof re-design and subsequent engineer approval to the meet prescribed council town planning profiles took 13 more weeks. The council process provided on-going information on design corrections, while the builder was silent on our building permit they were facilitating. Council records then show that the build time was 5 weeks longer than the average of 15 other similar builds within 200 metres. We have not received an acceptable answer as to why the process played out as it did.
The property looked like a rubbish tip upon settlement, and there was none of their much - vaunted handover process. Just a brief provision of minor items and keys at the builder’s reception.
The photos speak volumes – four are of the day of settlement. As well as the overly full skip, note the pile of unwanted bricks, the surplus concrete from the same builder’s project across the road, the large gap in the rear fence, and the mains voltage power cable detail below the warning sign in the garage-side footpath photo. No explanations have yet been provided for these. The street view of the fencing shows its incongruous nature as built together with the redundant builder power supply plinth.
The simple 150m2 plan to be on flat land and based on a layout we provided to merely be flipped and slightly shortened took 12 weeks to be produced by the salesman, with the odd notation "Drawn by CTP" and was punctuated by 18 or so unsolicited unwanted changes. We did not know it at the time but his initial design exceeded the council building height profile for a Lot of <400m2, and the process appeared to be going toward "Your Home. My Way." Throughout the ensuing process there were almost 30 unsolicited changes or variables included; almost all of which we discovered as they occurred. Had we not done so there would likely have been disputes and associated cost escalations. Entering the builder’s sales office on that first day was the worst decision we have made in the last 50 years, while the project itself was the worst such process we are aware of. Ever. To put that summary in perspective, after more than 30 years in the electrical industry in NZ [variously as project managers or as contractors] we moved to The Gold Coast in early 2002, becoming licenced real estate agents, property managers, and project managers for almost 18 years before returning to NZ. Re: "Signature Team" response of 11 Sept. [below]. We removed the unexplained rubbish skip and other refuse on the front of the property, gap in the rear fence, and a number of wiring electrical shortcomings. Also the garage door that randomly re-opened after closure, and the scalding hot water. Later the builders did arrange for their other defects to be resolved. To date there has not been any apology nor retraction of an offensive and unjustified email sent to us jointly by a franchise director and his cohort. Nor has there been any explanation of the whole process – particularly with respect to the availability of a preferred Lot across the road, the unsolicited layout changes, and the design process errors that became obvious after the build contract was signed. As well as failing council height requirements those errors would surely have also precluded the framing pre - cut process from advancing, and at such a critical late stage after the land title was issued. In light of the amount of trouble the process caused, it surely attracts an explanation. To help achieve closure of this matter, "The Team at Signature" is welcome to contact us directly.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name="xiaoli duan (☆ 1/5)" photo="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocKHit-SAqUvTrFz1cvRpsoIyLJVrQ8rROhfPnuuTvHzvEo2Xg=s120-c-rp-mo-br100"]In mid-November 2020, I signed a House & Land Package agreement with Signature Homes Radney & North Shore for a property in Long Bay. From the very beginning, the entire process has been disappointing. The contract was modified at will (with the explanation that they had sent the wrong information), building materials were changed without our consent, and structural changes were made without consulting us. There were unreasonable delays in construction progress, and the quality of both the internal and external work was far below the agreed standards. Communication throughout the project was uncooperative and frustrating. The reason I chose Signature Homes was because I trusted their brand and believed I was paying a premium for a reliable service. However, the outcome was a complete disappointment, and to this day, I'm still dealing with issues related to my home. This is why I’ve left such a negative review. I don't want others to experience the same frustrations I have. I've posted this review online for some time now, hoping it would draw attention to these issues.
