I’m not sure if this message will be seen, but I wanted to write this for all the wonderful staff and the manager at The Occidental, especially the Korean staff member who served us.

Let me briefly introduce myself — I’m a nurse working in Whangarei. I recently became a New Zealand resident, and I’ll be starting my postgraduate studies next month. To celebrate this special moment, my father took time out of his busy life in Korea and came all the way to visit me for a few days.

My father has issues with his knees, so I was looking for something special to support his health — that’s when I found out about the mussel dish at The Occidental. I made a last-minute booking on the day, and I was so grateful to be given a lovely table. The manager kindly arranged for us to be served by a Korean staff member, which made the ordering experience much more comfortable for my father.

The staff asked what we were celebrating, and I mentioned that it was my father’s 60th birthday and that he would be flying back to Korea the next day. After our meal, to our surprise, the staff brought out a small cake and sang happy birthday to my dad. It meant so much to me — I’ve always wanted to give him a special memory as a thank-you for all his sacrifices, and this truly made the moment unforgettable.

Thank you again to all the amazing staff for making such a meaningful memory for us. I’ll definitely visit again if I have the chance.

Tuesday special was great.
We walked in here at around 3p.m.
All staff were kind and many seats were available.

Steamed mussel was absolutely delicious. But I wanted it to be more like soup, not too thick.

Every food I took was just amazing. I’ve never seen this big mussels in my life! Sauce was so good as well. First time drinking Cherry beers and it was so yum!! Wanna visit Auckland again only for this

Looking for a place to eat and Brew on Quay caught my eye as we passed on the bus.
We walked back and were not disappointed. The staff was great and the food was tasty.
I had the beef meat pie and it was wonderful. The meat was tender and very flavorful and the top crust was light and flaky.
I paired that with a local stout and I was in heaven.
Our meal and drinks were reasonably priced, but the staff made dining here very pleasant. They were patient in answering our questions and made us feel very welcomed.
Seek out this place for a relaxing good time.

Amazing staff! Such great people. Friendly, knowledgeable, professional and bringing the chill vibes. The range of drinks is outstanding- great pints and they even have our fav; Morning Cider. The building is beautiful – old world solid wood with plenty of intriguing curiosities gracing the walls. There are cozy spots hidden all round the venue so it can feel intimate even when crowded. Decent food – we weren’t big fans of the wings ‘cause we like them classic-style with crispy skin, but we’re from London so we get picky when it comes to fried chicken, these are American Buffalo style as stated on the menu. This is, however, the best pub on the waterfront. We go here whenever we’re doing a shoot in town and the team are brilliant hosts. Thanks guys!

A good place for a beer stop! Great beer selection, the building itself is interesting to look at, seems rather historic…for Auckland! Staff were friendly but standoff-ish. Have come across more lively atmospheres but potentially came in during a lull. Overall not a bad spot! Thanks for the tasty beer!

Fantastic waterfront venue with a relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff.

This is the first bar I visited in NZ so can’t comment on if the price of beers compared to the rest of the market. But it did seem pretty expensive. That being said there’s a wide variety of beers on tap. It’s a lovely spot to sit back & people watch. The location and vibe make it a great location.

Apparently On Monday there’s a quiz night
On Tuesdays there’s a 5k run!

Great bar!
Friendly and helpful staff, really appreciated the hospitality. Had to try a tasting rack of the bar tenders favourites (he was right about putting the Fog Hazy on nr.1) and ordered some food as well.
The pumpkin & ricotta, potato bravas and broccolini were amazing.
Great experience overall so kinda had to swing by the merch stand before heading home.
Thanks team, keep it up.

The atmosphere is nice with a good location, the decoration is also attractive. But it’s expensive for the offer, probably due to a more tourist location. The food was not bad but not good. Some different offers like the fried pork belly burger … not working… different is not necessarily good, and that is the case here. So I can’t say it’s totally bad, but I would pick another place. The staff was friendly anyway.

OK, the beer is good. The food is not. Actually the snacks are OK. I’ve been a few times and know. The ‘schnitzy’ I had the other night was diabolical. You can see from the picture the schnitzel isn’t much more than a couple of mildly oversized chicken tenders done in an air fryer for too long. Coleslaw was great. This was just shy of $30. Never again. The last time I saw those words were carved into a desk at a Kennys fast food outlet in Florence. My GF’s burger had significant issues but I agreed to keep it to my food.

$30 for one piece of battery fish and a small handful of fries. Missing a salad. You can even see it has room for salad on the plate (refer pic). Would make the meal worthwhile.

Bearded long hair guy at the bar kinda acts like he doesn’t give a shit.. Which I don’t actually mind in most cases but for the price you pay here for generic pub grub, you better make your customers feel like they’re a super star.

Good spot and has potential. Just needs to be less stingy with its offerings and its attitude.

Stopped by for a latish night drink. There were plenty of seats available. The bar is well located with a view over the water, and has a good drink selection. Drinks possibly were expensive, but I was particularly dismayed when I ordered alcoholic ginger beer, and the barman attempted to fill the glass with ice before topping up with ginger beer.

Decided to check 16 Tun out because I was in Auckland CBD and am into beer. What a great beer selection! Seriously good selection of small kiwi breweries that make some gooood stuff. Staff were friendly, decor was cool. The only thing that was a huge turn off for me… was that they use those thick rimmed/heavy/pretend pint glasses that make a consumer ‘feel’ like they have a pint, but it’s not, and it still costs 16 dollars for a single drink. Just serve an actual pint! Especially if your charging that much. Apart from that, big thanks for the good beer!

Mother’s Day was made special by having balloon and face painting artists on hand to entertain the little ones. The play area is lacking though which is disappointing for a family-friendly establishment. Service was good and so was the food. Vegetarian burger needed a bit more texture.

Absolutely loved our visit to Little Creatures Brewery in Hobsonville Point! It’s one of those places that probably doesn’t even need another glowing review because it’s already so well-known and popular, but honestly, it’s easy to see why. The setup is just so well thought out—especially for families.

The indoor play area is a game-changer. There are so few places in Auckland with anything like it, and it makes such a difference when dining out with kids. It’s genuinely an inclusive, welcoming space, and the best part is, you’re not sacrificing great food and drinks just to keep the little ones entertained.

The menu is fantastic, with plenty of great options for both kids and adults. We had an exceptional time—from the atmosphere to the service, everything was spot on. And I have to say, the frozen margaritas were a dream! So glad they have them on the menu. Oh, and the affogato? Absolutely out of this world.

Whether you’re going for a family meal, catching up with friends, or just looking for a solid spot to enjoy some great beer and food, Little Creatures is well worth the drive. Love, love, love what they do. Highly recommend!

Excellent place, excellent beer, great food.
Can enjoy a weekend afternoon. High roof and filled with light and a very calming view of water and ships.
I had pale ale, their most recommended beer which was probably my best pale ale in auckland so far, with chips and a 4 centimeters thick juicy 280gr seriloin steak which I loved.
They have a nice oven for pizzas which looked good as I saw them and the brewing area is clean and beautiful.
I loved my experience there

Went for lunch on a sunny Friday just before Christmas. Was easy to book through the website, and staff were accommodating when we asked to move from inside to out under the umbrellas.

(Hot Tip: you can only book tables inside, outside seats are first in first served).

Location is amazing, old aircraft hanger, right on the waters edge, (you can catch a ferry here from downtown if you want).

Service was good, the team were clearly very busy as the place filled up, but ran a well managed (very large) dining area.

The food however was the biggest letdown. $175 for 3x pizzas, 2x fries, 2x alcohols and 3x softies, so it isn’t cheap, which means the food should be top notch…sadly it wasn’t: chips were flaccid and soggy (we got 1x beef fat and 1x normal), and the pizzas were oddly bland, the salmon pizza had the barest of toppings in the middle which made it about 60% crust. At a tick over $30 per pizza these should be amazing!

The place had a great vibe, but sadly that doesn’t make up for average (and expensive) food.

I had such high hopes after reading the reviews.

There are three carparks out front and some roadside parking.

The selection was good. A nice variety of choices. It seems popular, because it got quite busy with take aways at one point.

There are no chairs with any backs. Only benches and barstools, so it’s not some place I would relax and linger.

I ordered the beer flight and said I would like some food with it. The only option was a ham and cheese toastie or a three cheese toastie. I opted for the three cheese.

After about 5 minutes I got the beer and it looked great. I asked the lady where the food was. She said it will take 10 or so minutes. WHY WHY would you pull the beer “10 or so minutes” before the food is ready? I literally had to sit and watch my beer go warm and flat, which happens much faster in the small glasses.

It was unfortunately a disappointing experience.

Had a great lunch stop on the way to the airport on Tuesday. The range of GP beers is always a selection dilemma, but settled on a February Fresh IPA… delicious. Enjoyed a great VEGAN masala toastie. Guys you really need to refresh the menu and add more plant-based choices!

Top tier beer and excellent atmosphere. Lagers, west coast/hazy IPA, and stouts were all on par with the best I’ve had. Creative stout program with a variety of adjuncts which were tasty but not overpowering -had an oyster and horopito stout as well as a cherry porter. Great draft selection and tons of cans to choose from which they can open with a small corkage fee. Service was excellent and art all creative as well. Would recommend to any beer lover visiting Auckland!

If you like the Garage Project brand and brews, then this is the place to visit in Auckland. The Garage Project venue offers beer on tap, beers in the can, bulk buys (24 can boxes), and merchandise for the fan. Staff are friendly. The venue offers light snacks (we had cheese bread, crisps, and kimchi toasties). Other craft beer venues in close proximity. I can definatley reccomend the Grarage Project to any craft beer fan.

Great lunchtime experience with a “curated” flight and delicious shiitake toastie with pickles onion and crisps on the side. I asked for a selection of beers that would contrast different hops, and got exactly that. A really interesting (and enjoyable) tasting experience. Cheers to the team!

THE AMAZING place to try various tap beer!!
I love this place!!!
The woman who served us was super kind and friendly!!!
Very nice little pub great welcome and fun atmosphere. Just a little confused if it’s a pub or micro brewery. Wish I could have got a better understanding.
Only concern I have is when watching how they poor a Guinness wasn’t the best or what was expected was very quick or maybe just a little too fast. I’m so glad didn’t visit with the Guinness professional as I know they won’t be happy.
Must say they have a Pie selection that looks great will be back for that not sure about the drinks but then again will try something else. I’m sure with the selection there is something you will like.
Can’t say I will be back this visit but nice pub

The MOST helpful bartenders. They know so much about beers, and they are the kindest staff. They even helped by recommending food options in the area for us tourists from the United States. It’s a great atmosphere for anyone who likes beers. All the beers they recommended were absolutely delicious.

Great atmosphere! Tucked away behind the shops, the Beer Spot is the perfect oasis to catch up with friends or for an after work drink too many taps to name and some delicious wines, ciders and sodas. The staff are more than happy to provide you with a small tasting sample. I highly recommend the sparkling rosè or the Hawkes Bay Peach fizz The ‘Woodspriit’ food truck was divine and if your in the area when the ‘Grub’ truck is in residence, you won’t regret trying a mouthwatering yorkshire pudding roast beef wrap

Nice new pub in Morningside. It has at least 40 beers on tap, along with a handful of wines and other non-beer drinks (I assume ciders but I didn’t look too close).
Each week they have a different food truck in so you should have a good selection of different food to keep you coming back to get through all the different beers.
Staff were friendly and helpful, explaining any different beers, but also offering tasting. You can also get tasting paddles too if you can’t make up you mind.
Heaps of space inside, and a handful of outdoor tables.
Free WiFi if you want it.

Come on Auckland! You guys need to come and support this great business!
The beers are off the chart and the food is fantastic! I love a hazy IPA, each one was unique and delicious! There are over 30 different beers to choose from!
The food was really good. I highly recommend the crispy butchers bites, the deep fried gherkins, the Korean cauliflower and the ChurBurger! That ChurBurger was……chur!! Bloody delicious!!!
Not a big fan of shoestring fries (I like the proper chunky fries) but overall, fantastic beer and food…I highly recommend!

Lovely spot reminiscent to Sydneysiders (with a penchant for craft beer) of inner city craft beer Nirvanas like the dove & olive, keg & brew and bitter phew. While unlike these places, most beers at churly’s are of the same brand (behemoth brewing, made on site), this is no bad thing as far as I can tell as the three that I tried were all top notch. My partner quite enjoyed her cider (non-behemoth) as well.

Any future trips of mine to Auckland will absolutely include a return to this venue.

If only there was a rating for the beer. Having been a fan of Behemoth, I’ve always wanted to pop in to this place. No complaints about the beer, but the steak and kidney pie I had was a bit of a disappointment. Needs more kidney. I think I had 2 little bits in there. Nice crispy shoestring fries… but that jus..or gravy?? Was cloying on the pallette. The other half said the burger was alright.

Big fan of Churly’s. If you love Behemoth then you will love it here. Plenty of beer options, and different sort of beers to suit anyone’s taste. Is quite hazy leaning, but so is Behemoth. The steaks are amazing and well worth the money. Even the “cheaper” T-bone steak was great.

Probably my favourite NZ brewer and now they have an Auckland outpost where there are around 20 beers on tap and some rather tasty food options. I opted for the tasting paddle to sample a few of the brews on offer. My favourite was the Behemoth Stay-cation Hazy IPA, which was so juicy. The taps change regularly and Behemoth frequently creates new beers, so each visit is a taste adventure.
This was our first visit after the full kitchen opened and I was eager to test the menu. Partnership with A Lady Butcher means this is a great place for meat-lovers. I chose the roast beef sandwich, which was so good. My husband had order envy. His burger was good, but apparently needed seasoning. We didn’t realise the meals came with fries so ordered tater tots as well. They the best with creamy potato filling and a slight bite.
We’ll be back to continue working our way through the 20 taps and trying the new options.

Visited Saturday and Sunday night over Labour Weekend and it was great! The staff were super friendly and helpful, the food was very fast and really tasty (the fried chicken is great and so are the smash burger tacos), there was a wide selection of beer and non alcoholic beverages, and our child got a free meal today (Sunday) there’s also a bunch of merch and takeaway beer you can buy, we visited a second time since our 6 year old loves the little churly mascot and got colouring in to do as well, would definitely recommend and plan to make other trips to be able to visit again!
