We contracted Ashcroft to build a duplex for us at the front of our property. We found their pricing to be appealing and appreciated their transparent open book policy.
The Ashcroft management team was professional with good communication in answering any queries we had.
We found the building contractor and sub trades to be obliging, courteous, easy to work with and it was no problem for them to answer any questions. The quality of the materials and the labour was generally of an excellent standard that we were very happy with.
All in all, a very good building experience and we would not hesitate to contract them again.

David and the team are absolute legends! They are among the most professional, communicative, and timely people we have ever dealt with. Turnaround time on viewing and quoting was great and the whole job was sorted quickly (exceeding expectations).

Before photo was when we had emergency plumbing work done a while ago. After was the stellar job done by Bakers Builds. Any work requirements in the future and we will definitely be coming back! Thanks heaps.

Beware of David Baker and his company Bakers Builds. Incompetent builders and contractors who are led by a dishonest and unorganised director who fails on every promise and delivery target. Just empty promises and meaningless apologies. Their work is both unsafe and the poorest workmanship in the industry, failing to meet even the simplest building standards.

I contracted Bakers Builds to put up an internal partition wall with doors next to my lounge. A seemingly simple and quick project that should have take just 7 days to complete as advised by David himself.

Right from the start there were many issues including the wall not being aligned, damaging my floorboards, lack of studs and timber used for support which caused flexing and bowing of the gib boards. Rather securing the gib boards on the proper way, the Bakers Builds team decided to just use discarded cut out pieces of gib boards held together with PVC glue, and foam insulation which of course failed.

The most serious problem was the framing was not structurally sound. The bottom of the frame was never fixed down to the floorboards, no glue or bolts were used. It was just sitting there and with a small nudge with the foot the entire wall moves, or worse may have collapsed over.
I had several other qualified builders come look and remedy the work and they were all both amused and appalled at the job carried out by Bakers Builds.

I went back and forth with David and his contractors for 6 weeks. David made excuses how his contractors and managers let him down from the start and how their other jobs delayed my project. However, my job was under David’s direct supervision for 4 more weeks but had very little to no progress anyway. Every time they either did not show up or when they did but did not have the skills required to complete the job or fix the existing issues. They left my job less than half complete with all issues not fixed.

They have very poor communication both to clients and internally and are unorganized. I went through 5 different builders within their team, each time I had to go over again what the issues were and what needed to be fixed. Even one of his own builders complained to me how the company was being poorly managed.

In the end I had no choice but to get another company to finish what bakers builds could not. The new builders completed the project in 5 days only.

Bakers Builds has been given countless opportunities and extended time to make things right. Now to make things worse I am now told by David he is unable to afford to pay the remedy cost as he is having cashflow issues.

I offered him a payment plan and splitting the sum, unsurprisingly he has shown no real commitment. Unfortunately after months with them, I will now be taking legal action against Bakers Builds. I will provide an update here once the proceedings have concluded.

We used BB to help fix up our deck. This included replacing some boards and strengthening the foundations. Great communication. Was communicated what would and would not be done and everything was done as was communicated. Deck looked great and was overall happy. Job took 1.5 days. Very punctual and pleasant to be around. Overall was happy

I needed the back ramp replaced as it was unsafe, I rang Bakers Builds and talked to David who sent out Fata to work on the project — within 3 days Fata had dismantled the old ramp and rebuilt it making it longer and safer.

I would recommend this company to anyone who needs building work done. Thank you Bakers Builds for a job well done!!

David and Nick were fantastic. Super quick to get back to me, incredibly thorough, and really helpful. David spent a lot of time walking us through the options for our deck and garden fence based on the ideas we had, managed the project seamlessly, and his team were incredibly friendly and helpful when we had a few questions. The quality of the work was fantastic too, which is always a bonus! I’d absolutely recommend them. We’ve a few other projects in mind for later in the year and will be using them again without hesitation.

David’s communication was exceptional. He was diligent with follow up and emails were clear and concise. Ingar’s build workmanship was also exceptional. We have had lots of compliments about the new deck. I’m looking forward to finishing it up and enjoying it over the summer.

Bakers Builds did a small job for us on our building fascia and was SO impressed with the quality of their work and their follow through. We are a couple months into our build and we are impressed with the progress being made by the team at Lewis Build. As an Architectural Designer it’s very important to help your client find the right builder for the project. Lewis Build have completed many projects we have designed and it has always been a positive experience working together to provide our client with the best possible outcome. This is why we continue to recommend Ben and his team to our clients.

We have a 1928 3 bedroom bungalow (with sleepout) in Mt Albert that needed a complete renovation and in hindsight, we really didn’t appreciate what we were in for.
It was our first home renovation and we were new to the experience and needed a building company that would walk us the through the process and help us with ideas and suggestions as we went through it. Our renovation including bathrooms, kitchen, moving windows, installing french doors, skylights, sound-proofing – the whole 9 yards.

We engaged Best Nest Building in October 2019 to be our builders and also project manage the build. What we particularly liked was how practical they were with advice, patient with our queries and flexible with our requests – especially as the job evolved and turned into an 8-month renovation (with breaks for COVID and varying intensity).

As we removed old gib fixed to fruit boxes, found soft drink bottles as plumbing, fence posts as joists and all the other joys on a 90-year-old house “extended” three times, Luke and the team were great throughout and explained what needed to be done, how many hours it would take and a gauge on materials.

As others below have alluded too, we’re particularly happy with the quality of the end product. We wanted to renovate our house and maintain the classic features of the era, which meant Best Nest was required to build custom architraves, rework our original doors, demo yard materials and other skills which require builders with a wide range of skills which are harder to find these days. The end result is consistently commented on by other tradies which is always a good sign.

On the subject of tradies, Best Nest were also happy to be work with our preferred tradies where we had them (e.g. electrician, roofer and painter) while being happy to recommend others were we drew a blank. This flexibility isn’t always provided and was very important to us. Critically, all their recommended tradies were up to standard and Luke was happy to co-ordinate with my tradies as if they were his own.

As with any renovation, we had numerous follow-ups and Luke and his tradies have always followed up and remedied the various teething issues.

We would happily (and indeed have) recommend Best Nest Building to anyone looking for a building company if you expect high standards in the work, good communication during the job and people that you can trust to build your family home.

We created a bathroom and 2 bedrooms out of 2 uneven rooms. We lived in the house while most of the renovations took place and the team made it so much easier for us to do that. Simon and his team did an outstanding job on our renovation. They were professional, worked fast the finished work was delivered to a very high standard. The renovation also had several complexities with consenting, and Simon helped me navigate the process efficiently and with clarity.

We have engaged Your Builder for multiple projects around our home over the last four years. Everything from minor repairs after a storm, to a huge double story extension, and they are always amazing to work with. Hamid has the knowledge, ideas and energy to get the project rolling, and then his team is skilled, friendly, and professional and get the job done quickly and well.
The extension in 2024 was a major renovation on our Auckland 1950s home. Your Builder helped us right from concept through to compliance certificates, and it always felt like they were as concerned about getting the perfect outcome as we were! Our foreman James was onsite daily, and worked closely with us to build our dream home! It was lovely to be so involved with the build, but to have excellent advise for the hundreds of decisions that needed to be made. We lived onsite during the build, and the whole team was very considerate, and went the extra mile to keep the kids and the dog safe at all times. We always had a schedule, and the site was always left as tidy as possible.
And the end result- amazing! We have had so many compliments from friends on the quality of the work, how well it fits with the existing build, and all the lovely bespoke features. We wanted to build a family home that felt warm and had character even though it was new, and we are so happy with the outcome, it’s everything we could have wanted. I would absolutely recommend Your Builder, and would trust them with any future projects no matter how big or small.

Hamid and his team at Your Builder are a pleasure to work. Most builders I’ve come across don’t prioritize quality, and look to extract as much money as possible from clients – but these guys are a different breed. They genuinely care to provide the best possible results for their clients, without ripping people off. This is highly commendable, and rarely seen nowadays, unfortunately.

The Your Builder team are a really great bunch of guys to work with. As an electrician its important to be well organised to manage my business successfully. Hamid is big on his systems meaning scheduling is always clear and there is continual communication between builders and sub-trades with where the project is at making sure we are on-site getting the job done when we need to be. We’ve done some great builds together so far, for some great clients who have been really happy through the project knowing that budget and schedule is tracked carefully. Can always take pride in my work knowing we’re building to a beautiful finish.

We hired Hamid and his team to replace our deck and do a number of other smaller renovation jobs around our house.
At all times they were very professional including keeping us up to on building progress, variations to contract and costs versus budget.
The team on site did an excellent job. We particularly liked that they discussed any issues they faced with us and made sensible suggestions for alterations to the work to improve the result and/or save costs.

We’ve just completed a major renovation of a bungalow in Auckland with JRA. We recommend JRA Construction to anyone looking for a builder.
Their cost estimates before we started the job were comprehensive and accurate, which is very important when embarking on this sort of project (we had two other QS estimates on our work before we started, neither of the other estimates were accurate).
The team on the job, led by Dave, were excellent. Dave’s clear communications and patience made the building process easy – there are always many decisions to make, and it helps having someone who is understanding and easy to deal with. Some of the time we lived in the house, with young children, all the JRA team were friendly and accommodating to our needs. The quality of the workmanship was excellent. There we no cost or time overruns.
Joseph’s leadership and attention to detail held everything together, and we are very happy with the end result of our renovation project.

Highly recommend JRA Construction! We worked with their exceptional team to complete a major renovation of a coastal property – with every part of the bungalow (except framing and roof) replaced and transformed to modern living with wrap around decks. Working remotely throughout most of the renovations (ie. not in the same location as the renovation) could have imposed significant challenges. But JRA’s exceptional standard of communication – highly responsive and transparent – and building expertise meant this wasn’t an issue at all. We felt we could trust them from the get-go to provide professional building advice, forecast and stick to project timelines, work with a courteous building team on the ground and use highly professional systems for quoting and billing. A pleasure to work with JRA.

We approached the JRA team in early April to enquire about major renovations for a restaurant. We have had multiple quotes from other builders previously but Joseph from JRA was by far the most professional and thorough when he came to do the quoting. His extensive knowledge and experience was crucial in helping us with key decisions with the renovations and we did not hesitate to proceed with JRA.

It proved to be a great decision because JRA has been fantastic throughout the entire renovation journey. Jake, Dave and Liam were thorough and informative throughout and the quality of the build is impressive given the tight timeframe we had for opening the restaurant.

What a Nightmare, we had JRA CONSTRUCTION to do renovation work and extension to our house located on fernleigh avenue in royal oak.(directly opp peet street )
The management would pick and chose in communication,deceptive hidden pricing and poor lack of judgment.We had our house broken into 1 month into the project and exactly when we had just moved out…lack of empathy. We had in 5 months only had 1 site meeting with Joe Allen,we had on so many occasions asked.
