A perfect spot to camp in a beautiful part of New Zealand. All the facilities you could ever need, clean, tidy and well maintained. Fiona, the manager was a real character, and only too happy to help in anyway. Will definitely return to finish. All the beautiful walks available close by.

Top-Personal, Top-Angebot!

I camped over the summer just my toddler and I. We felt safe and looked after. We had a spot just by the playground and kitchen which was perfect! Lovely host, super friendly and helpful. We meant to just stay for 3 nights but stayed for 5 in total so my husband and dog could join us!

So good to return here after many years! Fiona and her team has been there many many years and it was nostalgic seeing them again and talking about days gone. Sadly a small part of the park is not in use anymore, the cabins are gone, but otherwise nothing else has changed. Campers are always friendly. The huge pictures in the bathrooms are so lovely! Cool shower curtains, as always. The town hasn’t changed much. The cafe opens very early and still makes such delicious goodies and coffee. The surf shop next door is still there and always smells amazing! PSLS club still has a cool bar, eats and fantastic views! Cones on the Beach has the best frozen berry chocolate dipped ice cream for those hot days and Murray’s is still there;)

Came here for one night. Prebooked as it’s cheaper online.
Very nice welcome and we could pick our spot! Tags to ge access to toilets and parking which was a bit annoying as we forgot often. Wifi didn’t seem to work for us and showers not brilliant.
A lot was written about respecting others and this being a quiet, relaxing campsite, so dogs not allowed to bark and being on the lead etc. which is great and correct, but unfortunately there were dogs outside the camp that were barking a lot and there was loud music playing through the evening and early night from a bar outside the grounds which disturbed our evening.
There is great access to the beach and local shops, bar, restaurant etc.
It was good value @$55 for a powered site for 2, but not quite the heaven portrayed….

It’s nice, but it has to offer a different service than showing off the beach. People want to see and buy handicrafts Maōri style and at affordable prices obviously. Also to enjoy more than just ice cream, having another option for desserts or food in front of the beach would be a blessing.

A great park for the locals. There is a loop walk on the field. One side has some chairs. There is also a playground for kids. Amble parking spaces are available. The leisure centre is just round the corner with gym, badminton and table tennis facilities.

Margaret Griffin Park is an ideal spot if you love sports, the sun, and outdoor activities. Whether you’re a fan of team sports or just looking for a peaceful place to unwind, this park has something for everyone. The recently renewed playground is perfect for kids, offering a fun and safe environment. My kids love it, and my youngest son particularly enjoys feeding and chasing the ducks and ducklings by the creek—it’s one of the park’s charming highlights.

For sports enthusiasts, there are expansive fields perfect for football, volleyball, rugby, and even basketball. There are also plenty of walking tracks where you’ll often see people walking their dogs or enjoying a jog in the sun. The park also has picnic tables and sitting benches, so it’s a great place to bring a meal and enjoy time outdoors. Whether you’re looking to exercise or just relax in the fresh air, the atmosphere is always lively and positive.

What I love most about this park is that while it offers plenty of space for activities, you can also find a nice, quiet spot to sit and relax without feeling like you’re constantly in the public eye. It’s an excellent mix of active and serene spaces, making it perfect for everyone. Whether you’re visiting with family, friends, or just by yourself, Margaret Griffin Park is a fantastic place to unwind and enjoy the outdoors.

Absolutely amazing location to park the caravan up and relax.

So close to the Takapuna township, with bars, ships, restaurants right there.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

An Uber to the viaduct from the camp ground was only around $20-25.

Such a great stay.

Facilities are admittedly a bit dated but still clean, tidy and functional!

Will definitely be returning and recommend this to everyone.

Overpriced for the standard of the Park.
Clean and reasonably tidy.

We had a beachfront powered site for 3 nights. Stunning views but very run down facilities. Staff friendly but very little management of camp evident – our first night some other people were camped in our site. Staff had no idea who they were as they hadn’t booked in. Camp feels as close to freedom camping as you can get with a very relaxed vibe and no security measures evident. However due to amazing location we will return.

Would not recommend this holiday park.

Facilities:
– Bathroom is in serious need of cleaning, showers are not timed however which is nice
– Kitchen is cramped
– Only has a few picnic tables outside for eating, all of which are very dirty

On top of all this, it is right next to a few VERY loud streets.

We camped here over Easter (Autumn). Amazing camp host. Compost toilets x3 very clean (some could not read the 3 notices on the door, keep lid down). Limited taps. BYO water and have to take all rubbish. Little to no shelter from wind so recommend all guy ropes full ext. 15min walk to beach. Bay was unswimmable one day and calm another. The gravel roads are high and narrow at points, extremely busy on public holidays. A great time was had

We can’t say enough praise about this little campsite. The views are stunning, there’s friendly pukekos wondering about, there’s a shower available, clean and very well kept composting toilets, and we happened to be there on a clear night with a stunning full moon. We did the cave track, make sure you crawl through inside all the caves, you’d be surprised how expansive they are once you crawl in! The view from the top of the hills is a killer and the beach is a beautiful, massive black sand beach with lovely swimming water. An especially big shout out to Peter, the groundskeeper, who made our stay particularly lovely, he made us feel like we already lived there, offered us tips, a ride, and went out of his way to help me personally when I lost my manaia. Thank you Peter, you’re the loveliest soul!

The near-anxiety attack driving so close to a cliff was 100% worth it, this campground was so quaint and beautiful. Short, majestic hike to the caves, and even shorter walk to the beach were the cherries on top. The amenities, toilets and sink, were basic but surprisingly clean. A small kitchen area that we didn’t use was able to be used as well. Our first night campervaning New Zealand has set the bar high!

Pretty area to camp over night. Nice walks in nature and to the beach near by. Saw birds such as pukeko, sparrows, miner birds and pigeons. The facilities are not really good for camping as it’s just a long drop toilet, but there is running water and simple shower which is good. It feels pretty safe and there’s lots of space. Would be nice during the summer.

This was our first night’s stay on our trip to NZ after flying into Auckland and picking up our camper van. We loved it! Great experience to camp at the Ambury Park Campground. We were looking to stay at a ordinary campground close to the airport and found a little paradise 20 minutes away from it. The owner is so very nice and the campsite itself is beautiful with chicken running around and many animals to watch. We especially loved to take a walk at sunset to the volcanic beach, which is only 2 minutes away.

A nice remote camp site in the waitakere! It was far enough to not have too many campers. There is a lovely swimming hole not too far from the camp. The view all around the camp is superb. Super accueil par un couple de français avec qui nous avons bien échangé. Ils ont été très agréables, de bon conseil et à l’écoute de nos besoins.
Cadre magnifique, face à la mer et devant un beau lever de soleil!

The beach / waterfront sites are are totally overpriced.
Sites 11 & 12 don’t even really have a view to the water.
The most annoying thing is that the public footpath runs right next to the water front sites, so there is a constant stream of pedestrians looking into the open camper where you would actually want to enjoy the sea view.
The shower / WC is also totally outdated.
Right next to the sites near the entrance is also a huge car park where there is a lot of activity.

During our north island road trip this was by far the worst accommodation we came across, parked our motorhome and was told everything would be safe, sadly we weren’t and neither was our property.
When we talked to management about being harassed by another camper and explaining why we had to leave after only being there for 12hours (we paid and planned to stay for 4nights) the manager was less than impressed but promised a full refund.. sadly that refund was never recieved and emails never responded to.

Do not stay here, especially with children!
There are much nicer sights to park up at that are safe and much more welcoming!

pretty great place to stay if you’re camping, my partner and i stayed here for 2 nights while we were in akl for a concert and found it pretty good. we could park our car right by the tent which was nice. the facilities were clean, nothing too flashy but everything did the job. considering the price it could be better, but as we were only really sleeping there we didn’t find many issues

So what can I say about this place. Staff were friendly no issues with that however the rooms were not to good. As soon as we arrived the TV was already broken and difficult to watch. The patchwork on the floor of our bathroom wasn’t very encouraging and to make matters worse every morning we woke up we found at least 3 spiders in our bathroom. This place has a great central location to Auckland CBD and we knew we weren’t going anywhere flash but it was still a very low standard with the rooms.

This place is not good!! We are so unhappy with our stay.
We booked a cabin for two nights. Upon opening the cabin it smelled strongly of dampness and mould. The wooden table and chairs also had black mould on them. Mattress was damp. Walls were disgusting with mosquito splats, hand/foot prints, and unknown fluids scattered all around. There was rubbish on the floor and we found cockroaches and slugs shortly after arriving. so it was obviously not cleaned just (hopefully) had fresh sheets.
I asked for another room but none available – so fair enough. So we put up with the room, but we all woke up feeling very sick with sore throats and heavy breathing from the mould. We felt better after getting fresh air. I paid for our visit, but in hindsight should have questioned it as we feel scammed of $170 for what was a pretty bad experience. I kindly let the receptionist know how our visit was when leaving, and she didn’t apologise, just said she would tell the manager. Pretty dismissive and did not care.
Really unimpressed with this place and would not recommend staying here unless changes are made to improve. The pool was the only good thing about our stay! Not worth it.

We stayed here 20 years ago and enjoyed it then. Unfortunately we were let down by what it has become. Dont think there has been any cleaning or maintenance done in 20 years. Our we cabin was so dirty and had the worst odour. There was a tampon on the floor and spiders living inside. Kitchen was disgusting including the fridge. Rubbish bins outside smelt like they had been there for years. Toilets and showers looked like they never get clean and there were holes in the shower walls. Overall the place is falling apart and the owners dont seem to care. Very disappointed and wont be going back.

This facility has a new owner and is called Touchwood now. The prices for a powered site for two people have increased by 40% and costs $70 instead of $50.

Even $50 would have been expensive for the site since the facilities are extremely old and dilapidated. We ended up showering in the camper because the bathroom was so gross. The Wi-Fi was basically nonexistent. Getting to the dump site was difficult because residents with permanent campers parked near the area making entry extremely difficult. Hindsight being 20/20, we would have enjoyed a night in a parking lot better.
