A jewel in Auckland. The park incorporates the Botanical Gardens and Mountain Bike tracks, walking/running tracks and a bridal path.
Also located here is a public swimming pool in summer and tennis courts.
Definitely worth a visit.

Totara Park is a fantastic spot that truly has something for everyone.

The park features beautiful bush walks with well-marked pathways leading to various scenic spots and even connecting to the Botanical Gardens. With routes suited to all fitness levels, you can take a leisurely stroll or challenge yourself with a more intense walk.

It’s a popular spot for dog walkers and runners – especially those tackling the famous 100 steps (if you know, you know!). Despite the lively atmosphere, there are plenty of peaceful moments to enjoy the tranquility of the surrounding trees.

Families will love the playgrounds – one near the main car park and another hidden along one of the trails. The park also offers a great café, tennis courts, public swimming pools, and well-maintained facilities, including toilets and plenty of seating.

Whether you’re looking for an active day out or a quiet escape, Totara Park is an absolute gem!

I grew up around this place – used to have a paper round that passed by it (back when it was surrounded by fields) and I still like to pop back and visit on occasion.
Though it always seems smaller than I remember.
There are some great bush walks, a nice picnic area, and in the summer, swimming pools.

Great trail track in the city. Has a couple off big stair sets. It’s a good run or walk specially if you do the stream walk loop a few times. It’s about 4.25km

Hands down this is now my favorite park in the North Island! Absolutely pristine with so much space! Its huge! There are ample of tracks for walker and some amazing areas and trails for mountain bikers. There are also picnic areas and lots of off street parking around most of the park. The lookout is spectacular but you cannot drive up at this point in time. However it’s a very short walk from the street. We spent a good couple of years here and only saw a tiny portion of the park. Only thing to note there are limited toilets here.

I left 20 years ago and the place hasn’t changed … much! I took my child 4yr old and the walk through the entrance tree’s bought back nostalgia for me.. but to turn and hear her excitement made me realise this was still a magical place! Great for healthy walks, picnics.. one of its biggest hidden gems is that there is also a swimming pool! It really makes you wonder if the pool is the main event.. or just an addition! Did i mention great walks??

First time visit here. A very family friendly bike park gorgeous learners. This is not an adventure mountain bike park. It is a learning to ride your bike park for kids. We what for a rain day walk, so the lack of signage did not bother us. Great clean tiolets with lovely showers. Lots of parking. Highly recommended for a gentle walk or ride. Worth the trek.

Great park for those who like a bit of everything, not a large area but still enjoyable walk that is good for those who are trying to improve or are new to fitness or have small children. Pictures speak for themselves. Very peaceful and tranquil. This place has character, i especially liked seeing the wooden carved tree, signs of an old tree house platform in the pines and the chain on the tree if the cliff above the sea, a place where life was lived:). Bit tucked out of the way great place to let your dog free in a good allocated space.

Good view, they even has a shower place.but the sign of “No washing dog in shower” is so cute. We love this place.
游客园略小,不过不影响性质,大多数人是奔着骑车道来的。风景很好,厕所里居然有淋浴,”不能洗狗”的标志也太可爱了.很棒的地方。好喜欢!

Great place for dogs to walk on or off leash depending on what part of the park you are in. Major con is the dogs owners don’t know how to read and obey the on and off leash area’s making it dangerous for anxious or nervous dogs trying to seek controlled environment for walking their dogs as you can be randomly approached by uncontrolled off leash dogs sadly. Also owners seem to fail to pick up after their own. What once was nice quiet and well behaved park has been ruined by inconsiderate dog owners!

This park is a hidden gem, offering a perfect blend of nature, relaxation, and fun for the whole family. The scenic trails and stunning views of the harbor make it an ideal spot to unwind and connect with nature. Whether you’re exploring the greenery, sitting on a bench, or enjoying a meal at the picnic tables, every corner invites you to slow down and savor the moment.

The newly renovated playground is a fantastic addition, and it’s quickly become a favorite for my kids and me. The flying fox and long slide keep the kids entertained for hours, while I get to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Breathing in the fresh air and watching them play is pure joy. This park is perfect for family outings, romantic strolls, or even solo visits to recharge. Highly recommend!

Great playground for kids and toddlers. The carpark is very limited which is the only downside we found. Thus, not recommended for a large gathering of over 30+ people as you may struggle with carpark issue. We enjoyed two picnics here this summer. One with my family of five and the other with a community group of 25 people. The short walk to Waikowhai beach is pram-friendly too.

Great park to walk around
Just be a bit careful during non-peak hours as there are some dodgy people around. And in the past some cars windows have been broken into. But overall such a nice park with an OK beach.
The road going down is a bit narrow though so be extra careful.

Perfect place for a stroll, power walk, romantic interlude, personal reflection, or just to get out and take in the magnificent views of Auckland CBD, Hobson Bay, Rangitoto and other significant landmarks around city. The trails present a reasonable challenge for fitness enthusiasts and a few benches around for those who like to live life a bit slower. Some paths are gravelled, and some steps on steep slopes – watch your step on wet and rainy days.

Make the most of good weather and go and enjoy the view!

The challenging hike rewarded me with stunning views from the summit, and the serene atmosphere made for an unforgettable experience. With well-marked trails, abundant wildlife, and picturesque flora, I found myself immersed in nature’s splendor. While steep inclines may pose a challenge, the experience is well worth it. I highly recommend Mount Hobson to outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers, advising visitors to bring layers, wear sturdy boots, and pack essentials.

Beautiful mountain reserve. Stunning views from the top, fairly easy walk which takes approximately 15mins to reach the summit. Quiet reserve not many tourists frequent here. In my opinion Mount Hobson has the best overall views of everything Auckland has to offer. View of the harbour, rangitoto, one tree hill, Mt eden, panmure, CBD, Onehunga, Epsom and much more. Plenty of parking available on the street leading to the walkway. I’ve added pictures of the walkway & views from the top, including the stunning great trees which can be seen here.

Having been to nearly all mountains in Auckland, we finally went to Mount Roskill yesterday afternoon, 25/2/2024.

Even though the weather was not so good and rainy all day yesterday, we still managed to enjoy our relaxing walk to the Summit of Mount Roskill.

There were some people walking and taking photos there. The views there were picturesque and stunning.

As the grass was very wet due to constant rain, we had to pay extra attention when we went downhill.

There were plenty of parking lots there so you need not worry about lack of parking space.

We highly recommend you to take a walk there, preferably on a sunny day.

My 5 year old loves this park. But if you’re looking to have a picnic here, there are only 4 tables with benches, (2 tables under one shelter, and there are 2 shelters) so, first come, first serve. There are no big trees near the playground where you can have a picnic (if the tables are all taken) to relax & keep an eye on your little one. Other than that, this is the best spot for kids.

Good variety of walks in addition to the Summit track, which is about one hour one way. I returned to the wharf via the Mackenzie Bay route so I could see the lighthouse. Suggested timing is 2.5 hours; you may do in less time. It just depends perhaps on how much time you spend on the beach. Have a look at the island map before you go along with the ferry schedule. It’s definitely good for all ages. Bring water, food/snacks, and sunblock. Great views! Debatable on cost given all the beautiful tracks on NZ.

What a beautiful place to visit. The walk is relatively easy for the most part and extremely well maintained. The last bit has some medium grade steps that did push my cardio a little, but plenty of beautiful places to stop and admire the view (catch your breath).

We went at the very end of Spring and the weather was great but not yet too hot. Take plenty of fluids and snacks as there are no shops on the island, and make sure to only take your rubbish home.

We went on the 10.15 am ferry, which gave us ample time to do several walks before the last ferry back at 4.30pm. We did a slow stroll to the summit and followed the cave track on the way down. Then we branched off for the Kidney Fern trail (remarkable little plants with leaves so thin you can see through them), and finished with a walk around the coast to see the historic baches.

A fabulous day out suitable for most ages and abilities.

We arrived in the morning, and the returning ferry is at 2:15 pm. This made us decide to take the volcano loop track (3 hours) instead of the summit track (1.5 hours). The track was so nice and chill, and we loved the breeze!

Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t ideal today, but it was definitely worth it!

One of Auckland’s many good bush walks. The track is good, easy to walk on and easy to follow. Be careful after rain as the path does tend to get muddy, particularly along the stream path. Enjoy the walk, the trees and the native birdsong.

I am glad we chose this place last Saturday. It was really a great walking trail that offers so many different walks for different folks and you can choose a long or short trail or you can do all.
The bush was lush, little stream running inside. Mu mates and I truly enjoyed it.
Good for hiking, dog walking, mountain biking or simply enjoying the fernery and big trunked kauris.

An amazing trail to take the little one with. So many ins and outs. The length of the trail is entirely up to you. Gorgeous little fairy doors to find and little waterfalls. Absolutely loved walking this trail with my family.

The Rotary Walkway in Pakuranga provides a peaceful setting for public to enjoy walking, cycling or jogging, running and walking dogs. The ebb and flow of tides, seasonal gathering of birds and coming and going of boats, form an integral part of the ever changing scenery. The walkway stretches over approximately 7 kilometres with a return trip of around 3 hours. Numerous entry points along the way make it easy to vary the length of your walk.

Nice walk, can also run, ride your bike or walk your dogs.
For me it’s 4 out of 5 stars because there’s not a lot of space to rest (a few benches here and there) and there’s the wastewater pumping station as part of the scenery.

Lovely easy walk around the waters edge, lots of mangroves of different sizes, and a few native singing birds. Not a lot of places to shelter if it rains. We left it after about 1.5 hrs and went inland for lunch

I love this trail. It’s only a short distance from home, and has some great scenery. It’s one long trail along the estuary, with a lot of entrance/exit points so you can vary the distance how you choose. I’ve only done the whole lot a couple of times (Panmure bridge to pigeon mountain) and it is a hike, but the trail itself is smooth.

Rotary Walk is one of the best walking trails in East Auckland.

My husband and I went to Rotary Walk for a relaxing walk today. The weather was not so good as it had been raining since yesterday. However, we still enjoyed our refreshing walk with a bit of sunshine in the late afternoon.

There were a few people walking their dogs, jogging, running and walking along the walking trails.

The views were stunning as there were lots of beautiful yachts along the trails. As it’s low tide at that time, you may even walk towards the area veneer yachts were anchored.

We highly recommend you to take a relaxing stroll along Rotary Walk if you live in East Auckland or happen to drive past there.

This is an easy walking experience also frequented by cyclists. Pretty at full tide along the board walk. I’m still to walk the entire trail.

Loved that this is a more challenging walking path. It’s also dog friendly and is a rolling countryside escape just minutes from the busy eastern suburbs hub. Lots of space and several paths. The kick came at the end – return trip to the car park area with over 500 steps uphill – so you really need to be fairly resilient for this one. The upside is that the pathways are well maintained and accessible and clean and clear. A beautiful sunny day made it a very good choice. Recommend to most people but definitely consider the pathway back – track or stairs. The views up here are phenomenal – you can get clear views wether you look east, west, north or south. Sunset up here would be amazing too.
