I had the misfortune of encountering Dr Emily Ryder as an outpatient. Her treatment was average, which given the general standard of dermatologists in the health system is not saying much. But it was post-examination that it became clear she is of dubious character.
While waiting for my appointment, her previous patient exited in an agitated state and started berating her to me about his experience. He was heated and swearing and it was very uncomfortable. During my consultation I was quite sick and explained this to her and how hard it was for me to talk. I was generally very dulled and lacking in energy. But later after I rang to query my treatment plan, Dr Ryder accused me of being aggressive and had threatened her during my appointment. I was aghast and asked her several times what she meant but she refused to answer. I ended up making a complaint and requested a full review. But Dr Ryder steadfastly refuted my denials throughout.
It turns out long after the fact that she had mistaken me for the dissatisfied and angry patient before me. Which just goes to show her lack of mindfulness. It was an exceptionally distressing episode at an already difficult time and I've never been acknowledged for being wrongly accused. Steer clear. There's enough arrogance in the profession. And Dr Ryder clearly believes her reputation is more important than her patients' welfare.

If you want an empathetic and efficient doctor then look no further! In the time I have been seeing Dr Ryder, she has taken time to understand my skin care routine, offer advice, and trial medication that works best for me. In that time, my acne has completely cleared! I quite literally have not had a blemish since my last appointment with her. Thank you Auckland Skin.

I highly recommend Dr Ryder, she is amazing and genuine doctor that knows and cares for her patients. I came to see her for a second opinion after my eczema did not get any better, gentle yet the most effective treatment after i have been consistent with the plan in action my eczema has gotten so much better and nothing like before. Everyone that knows how bad my eczema was previously are in awe of how much my hands have recovered after just one consultation with Dr Ryder! I am just super happy and grateful! Oh and the receptionist is lovely every time. Thank you! I would recommend Dr Ryder to anyone struggling with eczema!

Dr Ryder misdiagnosed me (told me she was 95% sure I had LPP) and placed me on medications for 3 weeks for a serious hair loss condition - I had to deal with 3 weeks of anxiety thinking my condition was going to lead to permanent hair loss (also suffered as side effects from the meds).
A biopsy was performed "to confirm" the condition - she had told me to return in 3 weeks to get my results and for her to remove my stitches. When I returned the biopsy confirmed her diagnosis was incorrect and that the meds she had placed me on were going to further exacerbate my condition. She then decided that my condition was something she had ruled out in the first appointment. She then questioned me about why my stitches were still in place even though she was the one who told me to come back to her for removal.
I was then prescribed a medication that lowers blood pressure, despite telling her I have low blood pressure already. When I questioned her about the medication (the pharmacist told me about the blood pressure lowering effects) she told me to cease using it.
So over $1200 later, I have left none the wiser with no certain diagnosis or plan to manage my condition.
Thoroughly disappointed is an understatement!!

I can't thank Dr Emily Ryder enough. I had been battling a severe eczema break out for months, was so uncomfortable. I had been referred to a local specialist, which I couldn't get into for 6plus months! I contacted Auckland Skin & Dermatology in the hopes I could get in sooner than the specialist I had been referred to and to my surprise, i got an appointment later that week (due to a cancellation). Dr Ryder checked my skin and diagnosed me with a skin infection from my eczema not being treated properly. She was very compassionate & empathetic, I was given a treatment plan, everything was written down, explained in detail. Within a couple of weeks I saw a major change and finally started feeling normal again. I am extremely grateful for the results and truly blessed that I found Dr Ryder.

Not a good experience at this clinic. While Dr. Ryder appeared to have knowledge in this area, she came off as unempathetic. She arrived 10 minutes late and gave the impression that she was tired and trying to rush through the appointment. She failed to really address the real problem and instead focused on other less relevant areas. Ended up leaving with a prescription a GP could provide. For the amount these appointments cost, this was a very disappointing outcome, would not recommend this 'clinic'.

Visited December last year, Dr Ryder wrongly diagnosed me and prescribed me a cream for my face. Once I ran out of that cream I started withdrawing from it BADLY, my face was worse than it was before I came to see Dr Ryder. So I went to see a different dermatologist and turns out Dr Ryder gave a wrong diagnosis and cream so now I have spent thousands of dollars to fix what she did wrong. My confidence is gone because of this, I don’t feel or look myself. Dr Ryder should NOT BE IN THIS FIELD.
