We tried the Psych Ward escape room and it was quite a challenge yet fun. The game was cleverly designed and kept us thinking the whole time. We had a great experience and will definitely be returning!
Shenavi arora (☆ 5/5)

My girlfriend and I did the Titanic room. Really cool originality in the puzzles and great level of difficulty, everything worked great none of the puzzles were broken or hard to use.
Maddie helped us with our room and hints and she had a lovely energy and made the experience even better.
10/10 recommend
Jackson Terry (☆ 5/5)

Maddy was amazing, enthusiastic and helpful! Had so much fun in the Dreams of Alice room!! Absolutely recommend to anyone wanting to do something in the city with friends. 10/10 would do again.
Elizabeth Barnett (☆ 5/5)

“The Gang” is a longstanding group of keen escapists who hunt down the best places to test our skills. Our experience at the Prison Break room was excellent. The puzzles were a good level for the ages in our group. Jake was a great host – helpful, clear with his instructions and extremely enthusiastic. Thanks for making The Gang’s 2025 reunion an amazing one.
ajkennedy111 (Busterking) (☆ 5/5)

The Titanic room was lots of fun! Definitely challenging enough to keep it exciting and had a good mix of puzzles – you could tell a lot of thought went in to it. Jake was a great host, he was clear and would check in with us at a good time during the escape. We had so much fun. If you love escape rooms, I would definitely recommend doing this one!
Mihi Tait (☆ 5/5)

We played the Titanic room and it was excellent. It is classed as the hardest room and it was definitely a challenge. It was fun and smart puzzles to solve. A good balance of mind puzzling and interactive. Jake was our game master and he was the perfect balance of professionalism, friendliness and very clear and thorough in his instructions and paced his clues out well when we needed them. I highly recommend it. I loved it so much, I’m immediately going back to try their behind enemy lines!
Stephanie Keil (☆ 5/5)

We had a great time *trying* to solve the Behind Enemy Lines Puzzle! We needed a few clues. Jake was a great host and it was lots of fun. Will definitely come back to try another room soon, thanks for having us!

Thrillzone Auckland was an unexpected gem! We signed up for a one-hour combo and packed in a full range of activities—from futuristic VR games to an outdoor escape mission and fast-paced laser tag. Each challenge was completely different and kept us on our toes the whole time. The equipment was high-tech, the atmosphere was energetic, and the staff were genuinely awesome—enthusiastic, patient, and clearly love what they do. Whether you’re looking to beat the rain or just try something new, this place delivers. It’s a brilliant spot for all ages and a great way to spend an hour in Auckland.
Isabelle Painter (☆ 5/5)

Had such an amazing time at ThrillZone – I’m still buzzing from the VR experience! It was so cool and totally immersive. If you’re on the fence about trying it – do it! I’m already keen to go back. What really made the whole experience stand out was the staff. They were incredibly patient, friendly, and knowledgeable, which made everything run smoothly and feel even more fun. A special touch was the eucalyptus-scented towels they gave us afterwards – so thoughtful and refreshing! I also noticed the Kids Club classes and they look fantastic – I’m definitely signing my daughter up!

The boys (11 and 12 year olds) had a great time doing the free roaming VR experience. The staff were great setting them up and guiding them through the experience The parent could relax and have a coffee.
Rebecca Grant (☆ 5/5)

My 15 year old daughter did the VR Escape Room with 3 of her friends for her birthday – they all had an absolute blast. They came out buzzing and wanting to go back for more. No gaming experience needed! The host was amazing! Highly recommend!!!
William Gordon (☆ 5/5)

Wonderful place – highly recommend. They made my eight year old feel extra special on his bday with special little touches. The facilities are super clean and spacious (often these places are a bit dark and dingy) and we will definitely be back.
Kate Ricketts (☆ 5/5)

Thrillzone Auckland was such a fun and action-packed experience! We tried a mix of activities including VR, laser tag, and the outdoor escape adventure, and every single one was a hit. The staff were friendly, energetic, and made the whole experience smooth and exciting. The VR gear was next-level and super immersive, and the laser tag was intense in the best way. It’s perfect for families, groups, or just something different to do on a day out. We did a 1-hour combo which was great value and totally worth it. If you’re in Auckland, definitely check it out!

Customer Reviews
We did the bank heist, even though I am not sure we even did it. Our room seemed to not be set up properly, and a door that was supposed to be locked was left unlocked. Also the worker had to come in to help us open the final door cos the key did not work properly. A lot of the puzzles were misleading and not relevent, there was barely any story element to follow through the puzzles, it seemed not very well thought out. A lot of the puzzles seemed to not be needed as we found our way out without opening half of the boxes/drawers. It was quite confusing and we left feeling dissatisfied, having done other escape rooms in the past, this was a bit of a let down.
Holly Manley (☆ 1/5)

I’ve tried a couple rooms here and they’re not bad but can be a of a dice roll – some rooms are more fun and immersive than others in terms of decoration, staff presenting the scenario, etc. The clues aren’t the most useful as some of them just paraphrase existing information given.
It is quite odd that they don’t provide free water here – you can only purchase bottled water.
Fiona (☆ 3/5)

Wow wow wow the staff here are amazing!! The kiwi fellow sorry i dont remember your name, made us feel immersed with his A+ story and performance!! Came out short of 2nd but he congratulated us amazingly.
E (☆ 5/5)

Nearby to the Skytower (if you are waiting for your lift or jump time) Wife and nieces enjoyed, nice little sitting area for those of us not participating. Set up was a little off, but things ran ok enough.
Harinder Singh Dhatt (☆ 4/5)

A group of 4 of us made a late decision to try out an escape room here, and they were super accommodating and got us into the haunted hotel room almost straight away. The room was excellent, and good for a team of mixed escape room experience. Good venue, good staff, and good challenge makes for a great experience. Highly recommend to check these rooms out.
Geoff Chapman (☆ 5/5)

A bit pricy but it was good fun. Us two did the Haunted Motel one and finished it before time ran out. Nice room setup. The host was very helpful and took an optional photo of us after we finished the game
S Z (☆ 5/5)

Lots of fun! Good level of difficulty with the clues. Perfect 13th birthday activity 🙂

Amazing venue for a kids birthday party!
Exciting escape room, board games while you wait, great space for food and kids. Thank you soooooo much for this morning… you are a great team and my son and his friends loved the party… clean, helpful staff and super fun escape room
Siobhan Richards (☆ 5/5)

We had a wonderful time at takapuna escape. Our appointment was at 7:00
Pm Saturday 21/06/2025. The person that was our game master was the most wonderful host. We enjoyed our time. We were very bad at the game but host hints really helped us finish in time. We had such a blast and will definitely come again as we felt so welcomed
Payal Kaur (☆ 5/5)

We just took five boys for a nine year old birthday party and the boys had blast. We chose the jail break package including pizza, chips and drink afterwards and this was superb, made the day. The room escape was really good for them, one adult had to be in the room, they didn’t complete it but were not far off, great having walkie talkie communication to ask for clues if you needed it.
The reception area was so cool to have the pizza and birthday cake with little booths for six to sit, decorated great with twinkle lights and background music, we had an hour to eat and cut the cake but no one rushed us at all.
The staff were super good with the kids and very helpful, we will definitely be back.
Ian Walker (☆ 5/5)

Went here to do the backstage pass room and had a blast, challanging enough to be fun but not so much you’re standing around not knowing what to do. Staff were lovely esp Melissa, who was our game master! Great time, would recommend 🙂
Tyla Skellon (☆ 5/5)

This was a great venue! We had to “escape” from a mountain slope so we did not freeze to death. We solved it with a couple of spare minutes. Well done Escape HQ Auckland, you kept us amused and there were no fights . The location was great with lits of parking available. What I also like about this venue is that it caters for young children as well. Will definitely go back for another adventure.
Suna Stirk (☆ 5/5)

Came here for a large team event (~70 people) and had an absolute blast! Everyone raved about the escape rooms and it was an awesome way to get to know coworkers who you might not spend time with. Highly recommend.
Victoria (☆ 5/5)

Escape HQ is a great escape room to have as the local. We’ve played through all of their indoor rooms, and have found them all to be good fun, with great puzzles. We’ve found the puzzles to generally be very satisfying to solve – they’re not often making illogical connections, unlike some others out there. The rooms at Escape HQ aren’t as technologically advanced as some escape rooms, but this isn’t inherently a bad thing – we’ve played through both a very well executed and a very poorly executed highly technological room in the past at other facilities, so the consistency here was valuable. The staff are always friendly, and we look forward to coming back when their next room refresh occurs.

We had so much fun and they allowed us to start at same time as we had to have two groups. Was a little bit hot. Don’t be too cocky before you start…we didn’t make it and the boys beat the girls. Awesome fun though
Sassy Naea (☆ 5/5)

Went for the first time recently with two friends and tried Escobar’s Hideout. It was very cleverly done, we had a great time. I felt the level of difficulty was just right, and it’s good you can adjust it according to the number of people you’ve got.
The only criticism I would have: there were some cramped spaces and it could be hard to see some things, like the numbers on combination locks.
Julia Schiller (☆ 4/5)

The best customer service ever, fun, friendly staff ( Kim and Valencia, I think). Very accomadating. Definitely recommend this venue.
Khrys Prasad (☆ 5/5)

Good place for team building exercise or just bonding time with friends or family.
The Escobar and Submarine escape rooms are very exciting! Highly recommended!
And the lady at the front desk of game master was really good at her job too! 2 thumbs up!
The Secret Pragmatic (☆ 4/5)

Super enjoyable time spent at the Manukau location today! Team were friendly and explained everything clearly. My partner and I did the Western Jail room, thought the theme was great and puzzles were a mixed level of difficulty. Would absolutely recommend Escape Masters to anybody looking for a fun and interesting activity. Also look forward to trying out the other rooms in the near future!
Peri Storm (☆ 5/5)

Best family activity experience. Fun puzzles, it was a great way to spend time as a family. The customer service of Sean and Valencia was so good. They looked after us so well and exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend and will definitely be back for another round.
Regalina Asekona (☆ 5/5)

Great family time event. Staff were helpful from the moment we walked in the door. There was a slight issue with a piece of equipment which was easily fixed and the staff member reimbursed the time we had lost which helped a lot. Definitely recommend to anyone looking at a fun, family friendly way to pass their time.

We came with our work team and had a great time. The Thrillzone crew is really friendly and explained the games and choose four different ones to play.
The kit is really new (including special shoes) and you actually have to phyiscally walk/ run through the games, so you get some good exercise.
Great time and will be back for sure!
Ben Powles (☆ 5/5)

I went there with my son and played 2 games together, as we teamed up together and moved around in the vutual reality games. The shoes provided for the games enabled us to feel actually walking inside the game. What a technology. It was very intense and so much fun. The guy running it was really helpful and friendly too. Highly recommended it to all.

We went for a team event around the CBD, in Summer it is such a beautiful walk around the Viaduct. The team at Thrillzone was great, when explaining our tasks there was humor and I immediately felt intrigued to complete the great mission! Our team age range was from 20s – 60s, the game was suitable for us all, we walked away with laughs and bonded over achieving the mission!

Customer Reviews
4 stars for the guys at the counter, zero for the room. Very, very run down and pokey. Poor staff seem resigned more than anything – they were good at giving us clues as needed. Some things were broken, so they had to give us our clues. No flow at all. Too many combo locks, no way to know what lock you were actually trying to unlock – there should have been more variety from an interest POV. There are probably more red herrings than clues, not all of them intentional either, I suspect. Just generally a poor design.
Crazy that they charge more than actually good escape rooms! Price doesn’t reflect quality.
Annabel Lovatt (☆ 2/5)

Escape room was run down and looked as if had never been vacuumed. No indication that you had finished, as clues didn’t link up to each other. Started with doors unlocked and padlocks undone as no checks seem to have been done.
There is a switch to twist if you need a clue, twisted 3 times and still waited 15 minutes for a clue. Left the room eventually because we weren’t getting any assistance and the staff was busy with other tasks.
One young staff member managing all escape rooms, laser tag, birthday rooms, mini golf and the counter.
Brittany Edwards (☆ 1/5)

Can’t say I was too impressed with our experience today. We had a booking at 1:45pm. We were told to wait 5 minutes because the room was being set up. Asked again after 10 minutes, then we’re told to wait another 10-15 minutes. By the time we entered the room, it had been 30 minutes. The room we had was underwhelming. The clues we had were run down, and nothing made any sense, and it didn’t feel like anything connected. We even asked for clues, and those weren’t helpful at all. I can collectively say the entire group left feeling a bit defeated and underwhelmed at the experience. To top it all off, the customer service was lacking. They were either talking to each other or there was no communication with us. At one point, we rang the clue bell multiple times, and no one came in or gave a clue on the screen. We decided to leave and when we approached the front desk there was no one there. Instead of waiting to find out how the room finishes we left, not knowing. If you want a better escape room experience, maybe try someone else.
Maryna Claassens (☆ 1/5)

Really poor customer service, lots of visibly unhappy and frustrated customers. Escape rooms were outdated, overpriced, puzzles didn’t link together, and one of the room wasn’t set up properly so the staff had to bring in the clues halfway through. Poor experience, gutted to have wasted money & time
Laury Houghton (☆ 1/5)

Exciting family activity, it was fun . Would have been a blast if tgey can improve ventilation. Covered in sweat otherwise good experience. Thanks
Mahalakshmi Rengarajoo (☆ 2/5)

Visiting this place was not planned but my lot begged to try it after ice skating. Lucky enough they were available before their bookings arrived in the evening. My girls did VACANCY and they loved it. So funny to see them rushing and putting clues together and even though they were one clue away from solving it the staff was so nice to allow/help them just over their time to complete it 🙂 Thank you so much! Definitely be back again to try the other rooms.
Flo Naepi (☆ 5/5)

We have done a couple of these rooms now and considering how expensive it is (almost on par with more modern rooms located in the city), it would be nice if the items in the rooms were updated. Alot is handmade, which I like and appreciate, but everything is quite worn and seems none of it has been replaced since the rooms were opened. Even just re-laminating clues etc. would be an improvement or replacing existing items from an op-shop (i.e. the doll which is completely falling apart).

An escape room is a themed adventure game where participants solve a series of puzzles and challenges within a limited time to "escape" from a locked room. The experience typically involves teamwork, critical thinking, and communication skills, making it a popular choice for team-building activities, parties, and family outings.
How many people can participate in an escape room?
The number of participants allowed in an escape room can vary depending on the venue. Most escape rooms in Auckland accommodate between 2 to 10 players, but some may have larger or smaller group limits. It’s advisable to check with the specific location for their group size policies.
What types of themes are available in Auckland escape rooms?
Auckland escape rooms offer a wide variety of themes to cater to different interests. Common themes include mystery, horror, adventure, and historical settings. Popular scenarios might involve escaping from a haunted house, solving a murder mystery, or retrieving a valuable artifact. Each theme provides a unique narrative experience for participants.
Is there an age limit for escape rooms?
While there is generally no strict age limit for participating in escape rooms, most venues recommend that players be at least 10 years old to fully engage with the puzzles and challenges. Some escape rooms may have age restrictions for specific themes, especially those with horror elements, so it's best to check the venue's guidelines beforehand.
How long does an escape room experience last?
The typical duration of an escape room experience is about 60 minutes, although some rooms may offer shorter or longer experiences. This time usually includes a brief introduction to the game, where players learn the rules and get immersed in the story, followed by the puzzle-solving session. It's advisable to arrive early to ensure that you have enough time to prepare.
Do I need to book in advance?
It is highly recommended to book in advance for escape rooms, especially on weekends or during peak times, as they can be quite popular. Most venues offer online booking options, allowing you to secure your preferred time and theme. Last-minute bookings may be available, but they come with a higher risk of the rooms being fully booked.
What happens if we can't solve the puzzles in time?
If your team is unable to solve the puzzles within the allotted time, you will typically receive a debriefing from the game master, who may provide hints or explain the solutions. Some venues may also offer the option to continue playing for a short period after time has expired, but this varies by location. The emphasis is on having fun and enjoying the experience rather than just escaping.
Can we celebrate special occasions in escape rooms?
Yes, many escape rooms in Auckland are suitable for celebrating special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, or team-building events. Some venues may offer customizable packages, including food and drinks or private bookings for larger groups. It’s a great way to create memorable experiences with friends or colleagues.
Are there any physical requirements for participating?
Most escape rooms are designed to be accessible to a wide range of participants. However, some rooms may include physical challenges or require players to move around the space. If you have specific mobility concerns or physical limitations, it’s advisable to inquire with the venue about any potential challenges before booking your experience.
What should we bring to an escape room?
When visiting an escape room, it’s generally recommended to come with an open mind and a spirit of teamwork. Most venues provide all the necessary materials for the game, so you typically do not need to bring anything. However, you may want to wear comfortable clothing and shoes, as you may be moving around. It’s also a good idea to leave personal belongings like bags and jackets in designated areas to keep the game space organized.
