Ottimo hotel in centro.

Very comfortable and welcoming double room on the 8th floor. Kettle and fridge much appreciated. There are coin laundries on the 3rd, 6th, and 9th floor (1 washer, 1 dryer in each). Reception can provide coin change and washing powder. Buffet breakfast was good, although I would have appreciated a slightly more international selection for the price. If you’re looking for a full “English” cooked breakfast, though, you will be fine! I liked the chicken congee (rice porridge). Service is friendly. They also offer an evening dinner menu, fairly reasonably priced and good quality. I had a really comfortable 3-night stay. The hotel is only 5 minutes’ walk from the InterCity coach station, practical for onward travel. You can also catch the direct Skybus service for Auckland Airport at the same station. The Skybus takes around half an hour. Best to allow a little longer, though, as traffic can be heavy on the main roads. I will be staying again at the Auckland City Hotel for my last night in NZ in a couple of weeks’ time. Looking forward to it.

Great stay at a very convenient location. Great breakfast and breakfast pack if going on early day tours. Staff generally very nice. 2 bedroom suite has nice set-up. Good beds and amenities. Walkable to many attractions. Overall, excellent value for money!

The staff were lovely and helpful. Location is good and close to everything. Value and cleanliness were great. However the towels were very small and thin and could be much better. Also there was no facecloth. But overall a good place to stay.

Amazing hotel, tucked right in the heart of Auckland CBD, perfect central location, right down the street from numerous landmarks. The rooms were cosy and the front desk service was so polite. The restaurant downstairs was beautiful and the breakfast was divine.
One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at.
5/5 stars.

Loved this hotel! If you’re ever in Auckland and you’re not sure where to stay, I really recommend this hotel! Clean bathroom, clean room, has all the basic amenities and walking distance to eateries as well as the harbour + sky tower 🙂 Great service and staff were all really friendly! I appreciate the hospitality and thank you for reserving the car parking for my family and I 🙂

Hands down the best hostel I’ve ever been to! Different entertainments every night in the hostel bar, where they also serve good food and drinks. Hairdresser and massages, sports activities in the mornings. An absolutely spotless, fully equipped kitchen, impeccably clean rooms and bathrooms. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Only about 400 mtrs from the central bus station and city centre.
It simply ticks all the boxes!
Karina Cabrerizo (☆ 5/5)

Just got back from a quick two-day trip to Auckland and stayed at LyLo. Such a smooth and easy experience. The space was clean, modern, and had everything I needed for a short stay. What really stood out was the staff — due to a last-minute delay with my incoming flight, they helped set me up with an extended stay without any hassle. Super accommodating and friendly. Definitely recommend if you’re after a convenient, budget-friendly option right in the heart of the city.
Reuven Berson (☆ 5/5)

I stayed at the Lylo for two nights on a quick trip to Auckland, in a private ensuite room. The room had no windows, but the lighting was adjustable and easy on the eyes, so I wasn’t too bothered. The room was impeccably clean, as were the common hallways/lounges etc. Great storage, TV and lots of outlets. Not the comfiest bed but it did the job! ||For a hostel and for the price I paid, I was extremely impressed. ||The restaurant downstairs was very slow with service and messed up my order, so even though it’s convenient, I’d go elsewhere. While there isn’t a supermarket super close, there are convenience stores nearby. ||I used to live in Auckland so I’m familiar with the area, but I think it might feel a bit separate from the central area for some people, but great to use as a base or for a quick visit. Would stay again. Easy walk to the Skybus station at Sky City too.
CJ2122 (☆ 0/5)

One of the best hostel in the world (seriously it is ranked as one)
the pods design are great, all facilities are kept clean and looking nice and new.
I stayed here almost every time I visit Auckland for my solo-trips: cost-wise, everything is in great conditions, simple nice design, and easy to book. I stayed once in a double room with my mum when we were travelling for leisure purposes, almost everything CBD is within walks for 10-15mins.
I gave a close look at the trips on offer at the hostel counter there’s heaps of options too. We didn’t try during our trip but they all look pretty good.
This place also host multiple fun events for people who stay there, I keep noticing those info on they notice board, all looking fun and I wish I could join and have a nosy.
Great stay especially for young travellers or solo travellers.
Evan Cheung (☆ 5/5)

Modern and a fun vibe, super clean and I appreciated the pods for a little privacy. Bag storage is secure. Onsite restaurant has good coffee. My only suggestions are more cooling / air flow in the pods and more hooks in the showers and lockers.
Marina Cunningham (☆ 5/5)

As a hostel, it’s a great place. It is clean, the beds are comfortable, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The only problem is that rooms’ doors when close make big noise that wake one up. There is no quiet time that obligates the guests to be in bed and quiet. It is up to individuals to close the door quietly and be mindful that others are resting in odd hours.
Mehdi Rafian Naini (☆ 5/5)

We arrived late at night but check in was simple. Decent location with a short walk to the China town area of Auckland with plenty of restaurants to choose from. Rooms were clean, quiet and had everything we needed! Would definitely stay here again and happily go to any other lylo locations too!Staff were all friendly and helpful as well!

Elsa Chapuis (☆ 4/5)

I spent a few days there and I was quite disappointed.
The fact is I have stayed in Haka House Auckland city and I enjoyed it there but here I didn’t ..
The fact that the hostel is next to K’road is nice because it’s a vibrant street but for the private room it’s a no for me.
– no ventilation in the bathroom (our towels remained wet for days)
– no isolation for windows (we heard gunshots one night and we could basically hear everything happening on the street)
– no chair in the room, you can only sit on the bed
For the shared space, it’s a bit tight and overcrowded, unfortunately..
But the team is good.
Maëva HENRY (☆ 3/5)

Very well-run hostel. Nice dorms with sufficient space and privacy, well-equipped kitchen, nice atmosphere and very clean. K’road can be a bit iffy with substance abuse related aggression but good site security means it doesn’t affect the hostel.
Linda Hodgson (☆ 5/5)

A good, inviting hostel. The atmosphere was good. The dorm, bathrooms, and kitchen were clean. The location within Auckland (K’Road) is not the best, I would say, yet I would choose every time to visit this place again.
Trip.com Member (☆ 0/5)

Been there almost a year
Was amazing at the start then I saw the cleanliness going down.
Sad for an hostel who used to be great
You will be rewarded here as a guest only if you are a women not because you are here from a while.
Ben (☆ 2/5)

The area is rough, but as a solo traveling 19yo female I never had any issues with any of the rougher types around the area. It’s just a bit of a culture shock. It’s well located for events at spark arena, which is within walking distance. There is no elevator and the stairs are quite steep. The bed wasn’t the most comfortable in my 6-bed dorm however it was enough to crash for the night. Appreciate the outlets in each “pod” with a shelf and a light by the bed too. Overall not bad at all for my first solo trip

Boudaud Ludivine (☆ 2/5)

Despite the challenges of ongoing maintenance occuring, the team are really friendly and eager to help. Construction is quiet long before the evenings so it didn’t keep me from getting plenty of rest. Kitchen is clean and well-equipped and rooms have everything you could need. I especially appreciated great water pressure in the showers! Easy access to K Road and the CBD. Thanks for having me
Grace Cuddihy (☆ 5/5)

My stay was unfortunately very disappointing. There is major construction work happening on the ground floor, which was not communicated beforehand. Despite this, rooms are still being offered at full price.
The noise is extreme — constant drilling and hammering throughout the day. It’s incredibly loud, making it impossible to sleep, relax, or even have a peaceful meal.
In its current state, I absolutely cannot recommend this place. If you’re looking for rest or even basic comfort, you should definitely consider staying somewhere else.
They don’t even warn you when booking, because the Head Manager of Haka Group doesn’t want that, because it’s bad for business.
The only thing they offered me was that I’m allowed to check out and they will refund me for the remaining days.
Nadine Fritsch (☆ 1/5)

Trip.com Member (☆ 0/5)

Haka House maintains a good standard overall. The kitchen is large and well-equipped, featuring ample refrigerators and a freezer, which makes self-catering easy. The bunk beds are very comfortable and each comes with a curtain for privacy. Additionally, there are lockers under the beds and a smaller locker for valuables—remember to bring two locks. While Haka House isn’t the cheapest option available, it’s highly recommended for its facilities and overall comfort.

Broken washing machines for days.
When asking the reception they said to do it elsewhere, fine. In the afternoon I see a customer paying at the counter and using the downstairs laundry.
When I ask why I was told that he was a long timer. How does that make a difference ?
Manager is polite but the youngest woman is terrible at customer service.
Other than that the place is fine and affordable but the 1 star is for the difference in treatment.
Clément Sieng (☆ 1/5)

Enjoyable stay. Staff were professional but interactive in a way that reflected the fast turnover and fun of young, multinational backpackers.
The only issue, which I brought to the attention of staff was the shower which regularly leaked and flooded the floor. Otherwise a good time, would recommend to travellers passing through as a central base
Michael Monten (☆ 4/5)

I’ve stayed at many accommodations in the past, but this was by far the worst. Everything was very dirty and I would never recommend staying here. If you are thinking about booking or have already booked, I strongly recommend canceling immediately and looking for another place.
The bathroom and kitchen are filthy and overflowing with rubbish. The lounge is also dirty and smells of cigarettes. You have to hold your nose when passing through reception because it stinks. The staff also lacks cleanliness. There are no power sockets near the bed, no sockets in the eating area, and only a few in the lounge, but the lounge is smelly and noisy, so you wouldn’t want to stay there for long. The lighting in the room is dim and you have to make your own bedding.
Even if there are problems with the accommodation, they blame the guests instead of taking responsibility. The wifi is also unstable at times.
I really don’t recommend this place. It was my worst memory in Auckland.

This hostel is great if you want to be centrally located in Auckland. The rooms are comfortable, but the best part is the staff. Everyone is very friendly. I will definitely recommend

I just had an incredible stay at Choice Backpackers in Auckland CBD, and I can’t stop raving about it! This hostel is perfectly located right in the heart of the city, making it super convenient to explore all the sights and attractions. The atmosphere is vibrant and friendly, with a great mix of travelers from all over the world. The common areas are spacious and inviting, making it easy to relax or socialize after a day of exploring.
A special shoutout goes to Kim, the receptionist, who truly made my stay unforgettable. From the moment I walked in, she greeted me with a warm smile and made me feel welcome. Kim was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and provided fantastic recommendations for things to do and places to eat. She went out of her way to ensure I had everything I needed, whether it was helping with my luggage or giving me tips on public transport.
Overall, Choice Backpackers is a fantastic place to stay in Auckland, and Kim’s exceptional service really sets it apart. If you’re looking for a friendly, clean, and well-located hostel, this is definitely the place to be! I can’t wait to come back!
Payton Godwin (☆ 5/5)

First time coming to Auckland a while back I stayed in a double room with a friend and didn’t have a great experience although we weren’t expecting luxury for what we paid. Got a small room looked nothing like the online photos it had no windows and no air conditioning, walls were paper thin could hear the people next to us clearly. Shared bathrooms were filthy, didn’t look or feel clean. The fridges were yuck and smelt, the whole place wasn’t the best vibe. Staff were okay I guess not much enthusiasm. Overall my experience wasn’t great but it’s different for everyone.
Alexandra (☆ 2/5)

For a cheap hostel, you get what you pay for, however, $90 for a private room with shared bathroom, I wouldn’t have even paid that price.
I booked this place for my friends last minute as it was the only option and the photos online looked okay. I went with them to check in.
The lady (staff) I spoke to on the phone and another one we met in the elevator was somewhat abrupt with their attitude.
The room was very cold with no heating, no opening window, bed was covered in thick dust we could see on our hand with one swipe, broken blinds that don’t block out any light, toxic black mould on the windows and frames and walls. Walls had average patched holes in them and the walls were made of thin and flimsy material, if you press them it bends. The bed only had a bottom sheet and a thin duvet so it didn’t appear warm at all.
Unfortunately my friends just got changed and ready for the concert they were attending, and checked out and opted to drive a long way home late at night due to health concerns with black mould which should be the bare minimum of cleaning. They gave no refund for the 2 hours spent there despite us pointing out these issues, they gave no solution.
Location was good as it’s close to the city so if you don’t care about any of the above then this is for you. I’ve stayed at many hostels throughout nz and internationally and this is the poorest standard place I’ve ever seen and is a disappointment of a representation of NZ hospitality standards.

100 meters from 3 cool bars for easy night time fun and lovely cafes and restaurants too for daytime enjoyment. Room was warm with oil heater, comfy bed and accessible shower. I’ve come to the end of my trip and this accomodation has been the best one I’ve stayed in throughout my trip and I’ve stayed in a few.
The rooms are spacious and so are the bathrooms and showers.
The kitchen is big and spacious, enough space for multiple people to cook and not be in each others space.
The vibe is amazing, the staff are helpful and friendly.
Close to lots of cool things to do or just walk around.
Absolutely amazing and I would definitely stay here again.
Chane Esterhuizen (☆ 5/5)

It faced the park, so it was quiet and nice. The shared kitchen was spacious and had a microwave, cooking utensils, and tableware. I also felt that the shared bathroom was well-used. It’s a little far from the city center, but there’s a supermarket nearby and a bus stop nearby, so it wasn’t that inconvenient. I’d like to stay here again if I come to Auckland.

I’d highly recommend staying at this place in Auckland! The owner is very nice & helpful & the whole hostel has a really friendly atmosphere. My room is great & the whole building is lovely & in a good location so you can walk to where you want to go easily. I also got parking outside the building which I’m really pleased about
Rachel manya Cassini (☆ 5/5)

The place, rooms and amentities are a bit on the worn side, but it was my favourite place to stay during my entire month travelling around NZ. Small and very personal, which makes it easy to meet and chat with other travellers (unlike the larger hostels). You have everything you need to do your own cooking, near a supermarket, and Ponsonby is a lovely part of Auckland. Will definitely stay here again.

City Lodge offers a budget-friendly stay for travelers who prioritize cost over luxury. The cleanliness of the facilities is commendable, making it a decent choice for those looking for a simple overnight accommodation. While the amenities are basic, they fulfill the essential needs for a comfortable stay.
The efficient check-in process and friendly staff contribute to a welcoming atmosphere. Additionally, the availability of a communal kitchen is a great perk for guests wishing to save on dining expenses. Overall, it’s an acceptable option for short trips, especially for those on a tight budget.

As mentioned by a few people here, you get what you pay for.
The facilities are basic but importantly clean. There are no facilities such as an ironing board, but they do have a laundry. The downside is if someone is doing the laundry while you’re ironing, it will be very hot.
The check-in and check-out process is easy, and the staff are friendly. They do hold a $140 deposit which they will refund. One of the good things about this place is that the refund is immediate, unlike others where it takes 5 days to drop off the account.
There was no cooling in the rooms other than a fan, so if you’re heat sensitive it may take a while for the room to cool down and to get to sleep.
It had a definite backpacker vibe which is great. But overall, this is not a 5-star hotel as on google reviews and Expedia.
Overall, it is an OK place to stay, and while not a hotel or luxurious it does make for a good safe place to bed down for the night.

Would not stay here again for what we paid. $193 per night is way too high for what you get. My partner & I had a double room with ensuite on the ground floor. The rooms are very warm as there’s no air con. It was very noisy during the night even with the windows closed. Our room was very poky & very rundown & in desperate need of a makeover. The one chair provided in our room was stained & not inviting to sit on. Only amenities provided were 2 cups, 2 teaspoons & a couple of tea & coffee sachets – you have to supply your own milk! The only thing provided in the bathroom is hand soap so had to buy our own bodywash too. We expected a lot more for the nightly rate we paid.
Hannahloulou (☆ 0/5)

Cheap, and you get what you pay for.
Perfectly fine if you want a bed, shower and toilet for the night. Communal kitchen can be handy for those on a budget. It’s park of YMCA so no alcohol on the premises, which may be hard for some. Not too far out of the CBD, definitely walkable with stead climb back. Public transport is good.

Check in was quick enough – they do charge an amount to your card and refund it the next day, (not just a $1 hold like other hotels) but this was relatively smooth. Was handy they sell water at reception, so you don’t have to go out again.||Walked to most places from this location and seemed a pretty safe area. ||Room was super clean and comfortable. I had a single room, so it was small but price was reflective of this. Nice view out the window of the sky tower, and it was good the window opened as there was only a ceiling fan, no aircon. However by having the window open the outside noise did keep me awake – from people yelling to the bin trucks at 4am – I was a few floors up but it was quite noisy. Temp was fine without aircon with the window open, so not necessarily needed, other than maybe to block out noise. ||Decent bathroom, provided some liquid soap only. Nice hotel shower, decent water pressure. Managed to fit in a small desk and decent size fringe also into the room which both were handy.||Overall decent value hotel as its cheaper than alot of other options for similar standards. Handy for one or two nights, but wouldn’t stay for long periods of time.
TravelAgentStacey (☆ 0/5)

The man working in the reception shouted at us and stopped my partner coming in at night, saying “Visitors are not allowed!”. We were so confused and angry because we’ve booked a double-room for two people. That reception guy was not in the afternoon shift when we checked in, but why did he thought my partner was a visitor?! So rude! Is it just because my partner looked dark and he’s a Maori!

We stayed over a week at this hostel and honestly, if it weren’t for the uncomfortable bed (the mattress seriously needs replacing), the experience would have been 10/10.
The staff were incredibly friendly, everyone, really, they try to give you advices about the city and jobs. The atmosphere was great, and the guests were very chill; you never felt out of place. And most importantly: the bathrooms and kitchen were always clean.
Also, the location is super central, which made everything easy.
Abril Vargas Pérez (☆ 4/5)

Bathrooms, Kitchen, Rooms, and Common areas were somewhat clean, but everything is just outdated. There is no room for storage of anything in any of the fridges or in the rooms. The pillows feel like I’m sleeping on a tshirt stuffed in a pillow case. The location is convenient as it is in the city but in a sketchy area. Staff was very friendly but didn’t explain anything. We had to ask about all of the info about where things are in the hostel and check out procedures and even what room we were in. Would not recommend or stay again. You’re better off spending a little more for a better place to stay.

I would avoid this hostel at all costs. There are substantially nicer hostels in the same general area, and I’ve been told that they’re actually cheaper. It has few redeeming features. It’s grimy inside and out and is possibly one of the worst places I’ve stayed in.
My bed sheet was stained, the carpeted floor is gross, and don’t even get me started on the washrooms. I’ll add that I didn’t properly fit in the bed.
Outside, you will feel unsafe. The hostel is in a corner in an area poor locals like to hang around. They will drink, do drugs, and regularly pester guests. One evening I was worried that one of them was going to rob me.
When I arrived the man at the front desk did not answer the buzzer to let me in. I had to call several times to get let in. The service from the majority of the staff is terrible, which makes sense when you consider that the staff is comprised of long term guests.

This place has a really great location and good vibes for the hostel. There are a few things that need to be repaired or updated but given the price and location plus if you’re only staying for a few days I’d say it’s a great place to stay!

We can really recommend that hostel. The people and the staff are really friendly and welcoming. Facilities were clean and if you look for a social hostel than you are at the perfect one!

Silverfern Backpackers offers a budget-friendly option for travelers seeking a central location. The staff is notably friendly and willing to assist guests, providing a welcoming atmosphere. However, it seems that cleanliness and maintenance could use significant improvement, as the facilities often leave much to be desired.
While the location is convenient for accessing local amenities, the overall experience may be hindered by the lack of hygiene and noise levels. Guests should weigh the affordability against potential discomfort, as the environment may not suit those looking for a more pleasant stay.

This place is pretty central but that’s where the posatives stop. We booked it for 6 nights but couldn’t stay more than two.
On the first night I was struggling to sleep because the room was so hot and there was a very strong BO and foot smell. I was also woken by someone screaming outside the hostel for whatever reason.
My partner and myself wanted to be in a room together so we booked a mixed dorm and in a ‘backpackers’ there is more of a chance that you would be sharing with men and women, but I was the only female in that room and I was left sharing a bunk with someone else other than my partner which wasn’t ideal. We are in Asia now and even in the worst places (not even that bad) they have put us together, and the mixed dorms have actually been mixed.
There are so many other things I could say about this place but honestly it’s all said in the other bad reviews. I’ll end with saying that they need to rip the carpet up and burn it… And so many other things.
We thought the staff were nice and helpful but after hounding them for a month for a refund for the 4 nights we didn’t stay I don’t think so highly of them anymore. More recently guilt tripping us by saying that they don’t normally do refunds! Well we got the refund (about $10 short) and I can say I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Absolutely dreadful experience. As a female traveler, I felt unsafe from the moment I entered the building. The staff at reception were the only positive, but that was short-lived. As we walked to our room, the smell was unbearable, and the whole place had the grim atmosphere of a prison ward. When we finally got to our room, we found it was being occupied by people who appeared to be living there permanently. The noise at night was horrendous, with music blaring from outside and people shouting, making it impossible to sleep. The room itself was sweltering and the kitchen was in such a filthy, unhygienic condition that we didn’t dare cook there and had to eat out. We couldn’t stand it any longer and left early. This place is not a hostel—it’s more like a homeless shelter. I would strongly advise against staying here unless you want to feel unsafe, uncomfortable, and completely dissatisfied with your stay

Get what you pay for innit. It’s cheap and cheerful but really dirty. The staff are really friendly and welcoming. Location is perfect if you are wanting to use the amenities of the city to get set up for a WHV or otherwise, showers were hot and clean. Kitchen was hard to cook and eat in as it was really not the cleanest, don’t wanna slate the place too much as it seems the problem is not with the staff but with the people using the accommodation.
P. S we got a private room which I’m so thankful for, walking past a couple of the dorm rooms and they smelled so bad, like sweaty ass bad

The other reviews aren’t wrong – the room we were given kinda stank like b.o and immense sadness, it initially didn’t feel safe with all the weird people outside the front door and in the alleyway where we parked. Staff were super nice and helpful, despite the miserable environment they’re forced to work in.
My advice: if you’re gonna stay here, have fun all night until you’re tired enough to fall into a stinky bunk and fall asleep immediately next to your bags.
Like, you won’t get robbed or anything but who knows, best of luck if you stay here. At least it’s cheap and in the middle of the city.

Location is the only positive…
No one has respect for each other’s spaces in this place, zero care if you’re asleep, they’ll turn the lights on and make noises, rooms smell absolutely horrid, not to mention the people who drink from night till day break, then continue early hours of morning, not to mention that people take drugs on the premise, people talking loudly on their phone outside the bedroom or in room after midnight is a joke, if you need somewhere to sleep, this isn’t the place for you. Not to mention the dorms are jammed with heaps of beds, zero ventilation and no air-conditioning or fans..i do not recommend this place at all..kitchen is absolutely diabolical, I do not feel safe…I have asked for a quieter room but was denied…

One Night in the Hostel from Hell
I stayed just one night, and that was more than enough. What looked like a budget hostel turned out to be more like a haunted nursing home. At night, on my way to the bathroom, I ran into a man around 70 years old walking calmly through the hallway wearing only a t-shirt—no pants, no underwear. He was muttering to himself, totally spaced out, until suddenly he turned and started talking to me. I didn’t wait to find out what he wanted—I rushed into my room and shut the door like I was escaping a horror scene.
Later that night, I went out to get some water and saw an elderly woman sitting in the hallway, trembling. She stayed there late into the night, staring at you as you walked by, like she was trapped between dimensions. The whole place had an eerie, unsettling vibe.
It was dirty, dark, and clearly neglected. Worst of all, when I explained my experience and asked for a refund, the staff basically implied that I was the problem—that I “didn’t know how to share common spaces.” Absolutely ridiculous.
I’ll never go back. If you’re looking for rest, avoid this place. But if you’re in the mood for a geriatric ghost story, be my guest—but don’t say you weren’t warned.

Good location but everything felt it could do with a clean. There is enough space in the bedrooms for 4 people. However the kitchen needs more space for storing food and general cooking.

Surf ‘N’ Snow Backpackers offers a budget-friendly option for travelers seeking affordable accommodation. The location is convenient, with easy access to public transport and nearby attractions, making it a suitable choice for backpackers looking to explore the city. The staff is known for being helpful and friendly, providing assistance when needed.
However, guests have mentioned that the cleanliness standards may not meet expectations. While the price is attractive, it is essential for potential visitors to be aware of possible hygiene concerns. Overall, it’s a decent choice for those prioritizing cost over luxury.

I stayed here for 2 nights (15–17 June 2025), and I regret it. I’m a backpacker from the Czech Republic and asked about bed bugs when I checked in. The staff assured me there were none, claiming it’s only “a summer problem.” The next morning, I woke up covered in bites—and found a live bed bug in the bed.
When I told the manager, he gave me $40 for laundry and brushed it off like it happens all the time. No apology, no action. Based on how casual he was, they already know this hostel has a serious infestation.
After checking Google reviews (too late), I realized many others also reported bed bugs, but nothing seems to have changed. This place is still open and booking new people. If you stay here, you risk taking bed bugs into your luggage and spreading them to your next stop.
I’ve reported this to Auckland Council and Hostelworld, and I’ll be contacting the media too. People deserve to know the truth.
It’s not worth it, bites are itchy every day and it takes up to 2 weeks apparently to heal.

PROS: In the city center and close to bus stations. The staff is super nice and helpful. The price is really nice. They offer free luggage storage before check-in/after check out which was super helpful. CONS: Some curtains would be nice for some privacy. The room was not that clean and it was quite smelly. Some shelves would be nice in the shower. I don’t think there are enough shoer and toilet for that many people.

at first glance this place doesn’t seem bad. I booked a room in a shared ten bed all female room. I’m 95% sure the place has bed bugs, doesn’t help that I overheard one of the staff say that they do and especially doesn’t help that every morning i woke up to 10+ bites. doors slam super loudly, and beds are super shaky so if your bunk mate is a mover, you will feel it all night. Wish the beds were a bit more sturdy and less buggy. ||Kitchen is too small for the size of the hostel. Have fun trying to find space in the fridge for your items as they only provide two. Saw two cockroaches while cooking so just keep that in mind as well. ||The only good thing about this hostel is that its very central and right by a grocery store.

Helpful staff. Cheap accomodation. I was on a top bunk in a very large room near a window. Got plenty of air and slept well. Bathrooms were right next door. Right in CBD. Close to transport hubs. Intimate spaces meant socializing with fellow guests was easy in kitchen etc

Terrible experience – NOT RECOMMENDED
If I could give zero stars, I would. This hostel was by far the worst place I’ve ever stayed. Starting with the basics: there’s no hot water, which is already unacceptable. But that’s not even the worst part. The kitchen is infested with cockroaches, absolutely filthy, and clearly not cleaned regularly. You can’t cook anything there without feeling like you’re contaminating yourself.
As for the rooms, the cleanliness is non-existent. There were bedbugs in the bed and what looked like blood stains on the mats on the floor. In a hostel, it’s normal to get your room cleaned once a day, with the floors vacuumed and the bathroom cleaned. Here, they came in four times supposedly to clean, and all they did was change the bathroom trash bag, replace a towel they put down because the bathroom leaks, and restock toilet paper. That’s it. The worst part: they came in to “clean” at 11 PM, while we were already asleep. And they didn’t even knock—just walked right in. No privacy at all. You could be changing, and they’d just come in like that.
Also, the ventilation is awful. There’s a tiny window that only stays open if you prop it with a water bottle, and it can’t be fully closed—so when it’s chilly, cold air just pours in. To make matters worse, the inner ledges of the window are covered in layers of dust, and that’s the first thing you breathe in when you wake up.
I know it is one of the cheapest hostels, but it is preferable that it is a little more expensive, and that it is in better condition and in the location it is in.
This place should not be operating as accommodation. It clearly doesn’t meet even the most basic standards of hygiene or comfort. I absolutely do not recommend it under any circumstances.

Did not even stay for the night, hairs and hair on the bed, blood on the dirty pillow …. The room had obviously not been cleaned. We consider sleeping on the floor but were afraid of bed bugs so we left …. For the price we weren’t of course expecting a cosy room but at least something that is close for clean. Not the case
