My parents moved here a few years ago. Before he died my dad said it was like being on a perpetual vacation. The worries of home maintenance as they aged were negated, they felt safe and became part of a community with like minded neighbours. They remained active and independant in a self contained apartment. My mum still lives a full and active life there.

Our Ryman village Miriam Corban, Lincoln Rd. Henderson, was recently invited to the Edmund Hillary village for a Christmas lunch. A delicious meal, served up in their large restaurant. Management and staff went out their way to ensure that we invitees enjoyed ourselves, and the meal provided.
Thank you to all those involved, from those who were lucky to attend.

Shocking care in the dementia ward. Don’t be fooled by appearances like we were. The low standard of care is the fault of management, not the carers. I found my father with unexplained bruising and bleeding, check your loved ones often if they are here. I won’t add photos purely to protect his dignity.

My grandma lives here and it seems they treat her well. My manager also treated me well when I worked here. However the receptionist was rude and dismissive and hung up on me mid sentence when I called in a couple of weeks ago. I can’t remember her name but I think she said that she’s the chief receptionist. I think they need to put their receptionists through some kind of training to prepare them for talking to people in a polite way and train them to do their job such as pass on messages even when they may not like the person who called in.

The two stars are for the staff who try their hardest. Facilities are good and the staff are lovely. But, the care units are consistently under staffed. Charging a massive rate ontop of this, unsure where the money is going when there are no staff, the food they are being fed is not what is advertised. Communication with families is poor, they have dropped the ball many times looking after my family member. Really disappointing.

This is mostly a review of the on-site restaurant. My aunt is a resident there and four of us met her at the restaurant for her birthday. The Village itself is wonderful, and the restaurant is excellent. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and reasonably priced. The restaurant service is impeccable. My brother and I both had the fish and chips; you’d think that’s a basic meal and ordinarily you’d be right. But this was great. So good in fact that my brother reviewed it in great detail while I drove him home. For almost thirty minutes. He was particularly impressed by the shaved beetroot. So if I go there again when visiting my wonderful aunt I will either leave my brother behind or decline to drive him home. The food is that good that I no longer trust him to not bend my ear for half an hour about it. I will be visiting my aunt again so I can return to the restaurant (and spend time with her, of course).

Not St Andrew’s but The Terraces, a restaurant within the village. We have eaten there several times and have always enjoyed the food and the service is excellent. Yesterday we moved my father in law to the care centre & several years ago my mum in law was also there and had fabulous care.
After a difficult few weeks in Middlemore it was such a warm, welcoming and professional environment to come to. Many of the same staff who remembered us – I left yesterday knowing he would be safe and well cared for and with dignity.
Thank you Chantelle and all your team for making a difficult journey much more pleasant.

Mum lived at BM Village for many years before needing dementia care.Mum’s journey ended with palliative care in the hospital ward at BM Village & we were with Mum as the palliative care team cared for her & us ensuring we were comfortable & looked after as we held & supported Mum through her final journey. The team on Mum’s ward handled her so gently with love, care, dignity & respect right to the very end. Many BM workers who knew Mum came to visit her with words of love & support. If there was any issue or point of concern, it was handled swiftly by the Village Manager, the Resident Service Manager, the Clinical Manager, or the RN on duty ensuring that we were never in any distress during this very emotional time.Palliative care is a very fragile journey & I give credit where credit is due as we feel so grateful that Mum was able to stay in her room for the palliative care that she required & received.

My dad was adamant he wasn’t ever going into a retirement village. We got him to visit for a look, met with the delightful Rose, and he pushed us to move quickly to get signed up for one 2 days later! He’s LOVING it. He’s gone from not socialising much at his original house, to having lunch daily downstairs with other residents and happy hour drinks each week, going to concerts, joining in activities like Word games etc. He is in a serviced apartment. He is a fussy eater and likes quality food and LOVES the meals (pistachio crusted fresh salmon, stuffed chicken breasts, fish and chip Fridays etc). It’s taken a weight off us knowing He’s so well looked after and truly happy. Thank you Rose and the Rymans team!

This is a great home for retirement especially the independent apartments, plus you don’t have to change when you need more care as you can move to a serviced apartment and if required the rest home hopefully when or if you get to this stage in life. Overall the staff are fantastic, management sometimes leaves a bit to be desired but it is a large village. The facilities are really good although they could do with air conditioning throughout the complex especially in Auckland. There are great people living here, most love the place and make the most of their home, you’ll never please everyone.
When I want to move into a retirement lifestyle, it will be in a Ryman Village.

Given the research I did into retirement homes for my mother…it is true to say Ryman Healthcare do have the most Resident friendly contracts….they do tend to “walk the talk ” a lot more than most other villages do.
Thats not to say other villages aren’t good….you do need to shop around for what “feels” best for you…and then decide if the differences in the contracts, and there’s a few, …are going to be a problem.
Finally…I do work in the industry, but not for the Ryman group.

We had been and looked at a lot of care facilities and didn’t feel them right for mum. Then we went to Logan Campbell visited and had an audience with Karren(sorry if my spelling is wrong) omg we knew straight away that was the care we wanted for mum. As the main caregiver for my mother, I can not recommend the hospital level of care highly enough. The staff were kind, compassionate and no issue was too big a problem. Even the maintenance team put up my mothers paintings and photos beautifully and mum had a lovely green view out to Mt Victoria. Sadly my mother only had a short time there, but I will be forever grateful for their care and the loving and peaceful place that was created for her.

It’s always a worry when it comes time for your folks to move out of their home and into a retirement village. What are regarded as small issues when you are younger become big issues of concern for older folk, and there are plenty of those when moving. The Rymans WSRV in Devonport has to the best at what they do – they really have perfected customer relations and making issues that concern incoming residents go away. Kindness, patience, thoughtfulness, generosity, and friendliness are all hallmarks that I have observed at first hand from their senior management and it reflects down the chai to all their staff. The village is immaculate and built to a very high standard – nothing seems to phase these good folk who have everything well organized, deal with matters in a calm and efficient way, and operate what I would regard as a world class facility. It was nice to depart from the site knowing my parents were happy and in good hands.

For anyone considering admitting your loved one here – YOU MUST keep on top of the staff and Mgmt at Aria Park or else your loved one will rapidly deteriorate and pass away.
Aria Park is actually not bad in terms of Management, the Manager and Clinical manager aren’t too bad – there is still definite and massive room for improvement.
Where they fall short are the general health support staff. The support staff, especially at night, typically tend to be arrogant, elderly women whom essentially neglect or bully the old residents. The day staff are slow, sloth-like, and unresponsive. There is no point having a bell in each of the rooms if the staff take a minimum of half hour to 45 mins to respond. A big contributing factor here is the lack of staff – so they have said.
For a resident in hospital care, this can be torture – given their (staff) primary purpose is to care for the elderly.
My biggest irk was the lack of care, the staff are so slow and unresponsive that if someone has a stroke or heart attack or even falls, they (the staff) wouldn’t even know about it. It’s sad that they can’t pick up changes in speech or bruising for a resident that they are supposed to monitor. Unbelievable, honestly. All of this actually happened.
During Covid, the only way that residents used to get infected was via the staff’s own incompetence by being neglectful of obvious close contact standards. They prevented visitors entering the facility during lockdowns, and yet Covid still managed to spread through the rest home like wildfire. Management had a hard time controlling the spread, and used to blame ambiguous govt guidelines.
This is a hard job, but there is definite massive room for improvement with very obvious things. HIRE MORE PEOPLE if you keep falling short of staff – easier said than done I understand that – But how long are your residents going to suffer?

Our mother was suffering from advanced COPD when she took up residence at Terrance Kenedy House just over a year ago
The amazing team welcomed her into the home providing a family environment of support, understanding and friendship.
I know working with people with these significant health issues that are not only a challenge in themselves but also affect the way these people react to the world and other people including the care givers and team. Our mother was no exception and even though she had her moments she did really appreciate all of the care and respect as well as the understanding she was shown every day.
Even though she had severe health issues that deteriorated over time, the amazing team of true professionals no matter what roles each person held always went the extra mile to enable residents to do the best they can even though these opportunities are not always taken up as people’s freedom of choice is in the forefront of their culture.
Communications are awesome and our mother and ourselves was always kept updated what was happening both physically and mentally. There was never a time that we felt uninformed and updated as well as providing the facts when decisions needed to be made and not sugar coating them.
The facility is kept very clean without any of the issues I have seen in other facilities. We also felt we could have open discussions and early interventions without prejudice. As with any place, it is never as good as home but is the next best thing.
The people and culture are so important, and the family orientated caring environment really makes this place special. Although our mother was too unwell to really enjoy most of the facilities and opportunities we could see there was still a lot on to keep residents engaged and entertained.
In the last few days, the team were all amazing showing her dignity, care, love and true respect even after she passed. Communication was open and honest, and they did an amazing job of keeping her as pain free and comfortable as possible. For this, they have our eternal thanks. This will be remembered by us always.
We will miss our visits and seeing their team as well as other residents but will remember them always.

My mother only spent a few weeks with Terence Kennedy House but the time that she did spend was one of great care, respect and a very supportive environment. The love and dedication that the staff gave her at the end of her life was outstanding. The family was very grateful that she was with these amazingly dedicated people. I would highly recommend this house to care for a loved one.

Our dad spent a very happy seven months at TKH after mum passed away whilst they were living at GVP. When Lisa (TKH manager) & Debbie (clinical manager) personally came to escort dad arm in arm from his villa up to his new room we knew then how special this care home was & that dad was in safe hands. Within days dad had seamlessly integrated into life at TKH, he was very happy & quickly became a much loved member of the TKH family. We were treated like one of the family too & all the staff are the nicest, kindest & most caring people you would want to look after your family members.
We were impressed to receive regular updates by phone call, text or email on how dad was doing including nice photos as well as the monthly newsletter.
When it came time to say final goodbyes to dad all the staff on duty gathered in the foyer to pay their respects, leave flowers & share their stories about dad & how much they would all miss him. Debbie said it was an honour to have offered him palliative care. All of this was very touching. A huge thank you goes to everyone that cared for dad in such a loving way with a special mention to Lisa, Debbie, Sofia, Eva, Renee & Peter. We will be forever grateful of all the kindness & support that dad & our family received at Terence Kennedy House. Gary & Tracy Lockyear

Mum only stayed for a short time but settled in extremely quickly. All the staff are amazing it was just like a great big family. When mum had to move into a dementia unit mum had hugs all round. Mum is not normally a huggy person. All the staff lined up as she left and all said their farewells. I love the atmosphere I would highly recommend it. Great communication with staff keeping you up to date with everything happening with your family member.

What an Amazing Place! From Emmy and the Nurses, kitchen staff, cleaning staff, caregivers to Renee at reception and Lisa and Debbie in management even the residents were all so welcoming. They are so friendly, caring and treated mum with kindness and respect. They always greeted us with a smile. Lisa the Hospital Manager always kept me updated with mum and always answered emails and phone calls and answered all my questions. I live in Sydney so to get emails and phones calls answered in a timely manner was so great and kept me at ease.
I highly recommend Terrence Kennedy House to any family who is looking for care for their loved ones. Thank you Lisa and Team for EVERYTHING! Mum misses you all dearly.

Our elderly Mother has been at Terence Kennedy House for seven months now. After a period of settling in she has now accepted Terence Kennedy private hospital as her home. We have been very impressed with the care she is receiving, the staff are wonderful and our Mum interacts well with them. We also believe that when a facility like this one has a good manager, clinical manager, nursing staff and receptionist, which Terence Kennedy has, then the quality of care flows through the entire home. Peace of mind for families who have placed their loved ones into care is of great importance and we are very happy with Terence Kennedy as our choice.

My dad has been at TKH for just a few days after my mum sadly passed. All the staff have been amazing in helping our family and in particular dad to transition from the villa at Greenview Park to TKH. A special mention must go to Lisa the manager. Her kindness and support and help with all the paperwork has been exceptional. Also the emotional support she has offered me made this sad time so much less stressful. Her dedication to all the residents and family’s is clear to see.
Such a wonderful team at TKH

Mum was there for 4 years and overall her care was very good. The staff are friendly and professional. CHT Onewa has a great family atmosphere and is pleasant to visit. Other homes may provide better care but are very sterile, CHT delivers a good balance.
