Amazing experience!!! Going to Hobbiton was the highlight of our trip and the photos don’t do it justice. On the way to Hobbiton, our tour guide, Adil, is an engaging and knowledgeable person who really encapsulated the importance of New Zealand’s history and culture. At the start of the day, he was very punctual and made sure that everyone was accounted for before heading off to pick up and drop off. We were a small group of 11. The seats in the van were comfortable and spacious. There was a lot of time to discuss stories and also nap during the 1.5 hour journey and we were also provided snacks after the Hobbiton Tour. Overall, amazing day and great experience with ‘Auckland & Beyond Tours’.

Excellent with the details! Great guide! We booked a custom tour with Auckland & Beyond Tours… and enjoyed every minute. Our driver/guide Dave was very knowledgeable about our tour stops and all-things Auckland and all-things New Zealand. Nice car, great day. Hamilton Gardens, Hobbit town movie set and Redwoods Treetop walk. Recommended.

Booked a second day tour with same company snd driver… this time to west coast beaches, waterfall, wine tour. Another great day! Flexible, attentive and knowledgeable driver. Recommended.

We have had Raymond as our driver and tour guide between driving from Auckland, to Hobbiton, to the Waitomo Caves & back to Auckland. He has been very honest, informative and just lovely during our day with him and we would happily come back to do this all again. Thank you Ray!

I took the Hobbiton/Glow worm cave tours on a beautiful Thursday in May. Our tour guide Warren was wonderful. Both tours were to die for! I hope to return and do this with my whole family. 100% recommend Auckland and Beyond tours for this experience. And if you get Warren as your bus guide then you are very lucky indeed!

We had an amazing experience traveling the Coromandel Peninsula with Nancy!! We met at the pick-up point and hopped on a comfortable van which could fit up to 11 passengers but we only had 8 total on our tour.

Nancy is so welcoming, friendly, and funny! Couldn’t have had a better guide to take us on this trip. There are a couple stops for food so you don’t need to bring anything unless you have dietary restrictions. Water and crisps were provided if you wanted any.

Cathedral Cove was a highlight! Absolutely gorgeous swimming spot. If you’re given the option to walk back to the car park or take the water taxi to the adjacent bay, take the water taxi! You get some beautiful views and cool off with the sprays depending on how fast they go! Of note, it’s $40 one way per person extra as it’s a separate service.

Nancy expertly drove the windy roads all across the peninsula and back to Auckland. If you get carsick easily just keep in mind that you might have a tough time as the drive back is 3+ hrs so bring whatever you typically need!

Highly recommend this tour and Nancy as your guide!! Thank you for a memorable day, Nancy!

Shout out to Sarah and other Administrators at NZTT. My son and I had a wonderful three weeks in New Zealand with the exception of having a shuttle service to Tongariro Alpine Trail cancelled due to high winds. Perfectly understandable however, despite several attempts I was unable to obtain a refund from the provider who cancelled the service. So, reluctantly, I contacted Sarah who within a few days, i was able to obtain a full refund.
This was astonishing! (I should have known that NZTT would come through.) They have additionally put the privider on notice that their refund policy is too restrictive and unreasonable. Future traveller’s to New Zealand will benefit from NZTT ‘s diligence.
Thanks so much for your dedication to members. You are awesome!

Exceptional Assistance from Ms. Sarah Chant – Highly Recommended!
I would like to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for the outstanding support I received from Ms. Sarah Chant at NZTT.
After facing challenges with my skydiving booking and a credit refund that wasn’t in line with what was promised, I reached out for assistance. Ms. Chant took the time to understand my situation thoroughly and worked tirelessly to help me secure the cash refund I was rightfully entitled to. Her professionalism, patience, and clear communication made a significant difference during what was a frustrating process.
Thanks to her dedication and prompt follow-up, I was able to resolve the issue with Backpacker Deals and get the refund I needed. It’s rare to encounter such a high level of customer service, and I truly appreciate her going above and beyond to assist me.
Ms. Chant is a true asset to the NZTT team, and I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone seeking support or assistance. Thank you again, Sarah, for your help and exceptional service!
To those planning a once-in-a-lifetime trip to New Zealand and looking to make the most of discounts on various activities, I would like to share a few helpful insights based on my recent experience.
If you’re concerned about cancellations and the potential for receiving credit refunds instead of cash, I highly recommend booking your activities through NZTT. While my case did involve a slight delay, I ultimately received a cash refund rather than the credit refund initially offered by Backpacker deal, thanks to the exceptional support of Ms. Sarah Chant at NZTT. Her assistance was invaluable in ensuring that my refund was processed appropriately.
Additionally, when planning your itinerary, I advise arranging weather-dependent activities (such as skydiving, etc.) for the earlier part of your trip. This will provide a buffer of days in case any cancellations or delays occur due to unpredictable weather, which can be quite common in New Zealand. By building flexibility into your schedule, you’ll have peace of mind knowing you have time to reschedule or make alternative plans if needed.
I hope this information helps fellow travellers and enhances your experience in New Zealand. With the right planning and support from NZTT, you can enjoy your adventure to the fullest without worrying about the unexpected!
Safe travels and happy planning!

Warm regards,
Jason Chan

I had a draft itinerary for a month-long trip to the South Island. I decided to set up a zoom meeting with Sarah to go over my draft and it was the best idea ever! Sarah is so kind, warm and friendly and, most importantly, so knowledgeable. She asked some questions to get an idea how my husband and I like to travel and then we went through my draft day by day. Sarah suggested some changes which made our itinerary much better. She recommended activities day by day. She came up with ideas I would never have thought of even with all my research. She turned my trip into what will be a fabulous experience. And then she put me in touch with Antony who assisted me in booking our airfare, car and accommodations. Antony was wonderful, got us some great deals, figured out different options when some desired accommodations were already booked and always responded very quickly. He was a pleasure to deal with. I am so happy I used both their services to plan our trip.

NZTT’s FB page was my primary resource for all planning for my long-awaited trip back to NZ after 40 years. I was blown away how helpful Sarah and the team were on any queries I had, but more than that, how collaborative NZTT is with the sharing of ideas and first-hand knowledge from local Kiwis. I’ve accessed many travel sites, in my time, and NZTT surpasses them all! Having over 100,000 members over a relatively short period of time, tells the story right there. I thought that once I returned from my month back in NZ, I wouldn’t need to follow this page any longer, but I cannot seem to leave it, as it contains so many like-minded people who truly love to share their expertise and experiences throughout this beautiful country. What’s also impressive is the positivity and politeness of members when responding for advice on itineraries. NZTT is definitely a role model for what a collaborative travel page should strive to be!

Sarah Chant was amazing! I had a starting point of an itinerary and have been a part of the NZTT Facebook group for while. The group alone was very helpful but I was busy with work and overwhelmed by finalizing plans for our trip to New Zealand. A consultation with Sarah alleviated all of that stress and she provided just the right amount of guidance and itinerary suggestions to alleviate that anxiety and help me finalize the plans and start getting everything booked. We had a wonderful trip and I feel like we maximized our time in NZ. It was great to have a local as a guide in the planning process. Highly recommend!!

We had the most incredible day exploring the wineries, and it’s all thanks to our amazing tour guide, Oliver!

From start to finish, he was friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about showing us the best of the region. He knew *all* the perfect spots – from breathtaking lookouts with panoramic views to hidden gem wineries we never would’ve found on our own.

A definite highlight was Mudbrick Winery – the views, the wine, the atmosphere… absolutely unforgettable. Oliver made sure everything ran smoothly, and his local insight really elevated the experience. It felt like we were on a private tour with a friend who knew all the secrets of the island. The Neil Diamond songs he played were quite a hit as well

If you’re thinking about booking a winery tour – do yourself a favor and ask for Oliver. He made our day one for the books!

Four of us just returned from a 3 week trip to the North and South Islands of New Zealand . First I must mention what a beautiful country New Zealand is, from its breathtaking landscapes ,the vibrancy of the communities and the friendliness and warmth of the people. Learning about the Maori culture was a highlight of the trip.
While researching travel agencies I settled on First Light Travel. It was important to me to use the expertise of a local agency if possible . First Light Travel more than exceeded our expectations. I worked with Marcella Johnson. She was very professional, available when needed, and very instrumental in helping me set up our itinerary. She worked well within my budget. We chose to have private drivers on each island which made it possible to concentrate on just having fun without having to worry about the logistics of driving . Not only did they drive us from one place to another ,they made sure to recommend scenic stops, as well as places for lunch they thought would be of interest to us. Everything went off without a hitch. The hotels, as well as the tours she arranged were exceptional. Marcella helped us to choose activities that met all of our needs.
I (and my family) would highly recommend a trip to New Zealand, and in order to have the best experience possible you should contact First Light Travel.

Recently returned from a fabulous trip to New Zealand. We chose First Light Travel to put together our trip, as they had great reviews. Marcella did a great job working with us to include as many nature related experiences as possible and advised us on best time of year to travel. In all, we spent about 5 weeks visiting both islands. This included a two day trip to Stewart Island staying in a beautiful Boutique Lodge. Probably the best holiday we have ever had. We loved New Zealand; the people; the food; the cities and the wonderful scenery. Great variety in what we saw and the time spent in each location suited us well. All the hotels/accommodation were excellent. Easy driving and good roads. Certainly this holiday exceeded our expectation. Thank you Marcella!

My wife and I had long dreamed of taking our bucket-list trip to Australia & New Zealand, but as we researched the various places to go and things to do, we quickly became overwhelmed by all the options. We saw great reviews for First Light Travel (based in Auckland) and we decided to hand over our list of preferences and have them book the trip for us. This was the best decision we made for this trip! They knew all the good places to go, the hotels, excursions, and all the transfers between travel points. Danielle was the one who booked our trip, and her friendliness and knowledge of the country made it all so easy for us! Every detail of our month-long trip worked out perfectly and on-time, thanks to Danielle’s great planning. Thank you, Danielle—if we ever go back there, we’re calling YOU!!

She answered all our questions and concerns about the trip as well as took our must visit spots into consideration when planning the trip. The hotels and apartments we stayed at were very nice and clean. Transportation was well planned, we had our driver waiting for us at every airport and were timely in picking us up from the hotels. We will definitely use First Light Travel for our next trip! Thank you, Anna!!

Best gift shop in NZ. After 2 weeks traveling all over NZ, we wish we did all our shopping here. Why is it so difficult to find a decent gift shop? Thankfully we did purchase a lot here. Great products, maybe not the cheapest in town but everything under one roof.

This was the quaintest little store, such an absolute storybook nook of a shop. We popped in just to have a quick look and left with a very helpful jar of kawakawa balm. The beautiful lady at the counter was incredible and so warm too, and was definitely the reason we ended up exploring the store (our errand list was so full and we only meant to have a tiny peek). She answered our questions, helped us with our purchase, and was so friendly that we really enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back. This is a wonderful place to stop by if you want beautifully made, high-quality, uniquely local gifts for friends or for yourself. 100% recommend and we will definitely be back.

What a tourist’s dream! Absolutely loved browsing through this gorgeous gift shop. From artwork to merino wool to children’s toys, it’s impossible to walk out without a bag of goodies.

The customer service was outstanding, we were greeted, offered gift wrapping services and treated with kindness. The whole environment was welcoming and warm.

Highly recommend their wool soaps and merino wool products! Must visit if you’re visiting Auckland!

I was in town visiting from Australia, I went in for a quick boulder around one afternoon, the price was good, and the climbing space was good. There are some challenging climbs, but also easy depends on what you’re looking for.
They could probably fit more climbes on the walls, there was a lot of empty space in some areas.
Good place to visit overall.

Had to jump on a give this place 5 stars.
Jacob went ABOVE AND BEYOND for us, without knowing us, to help us retrieve our bags that were mistakenly picked up by another family.
He drove my partner around following our AirTag to retrieve the bags and then dropped my partner back home. Driving around Auckland for an hour and he wouldn’t accept any financial appreciation for his time and petrol, or even some chocolates.
Words cannot express our gratitude for this kind act of service which goes well above what we would ever expect.

Also my niece and nephew absolutely loved the place. Lots of climbs for them and a great playground. The staff were super attentive and making sure all the kids and adults were clipping on correctly. They tightened up the kids harness as they got a bit loose over time.

They are also about to redo the top rope wall which I’m excited to come back to sometime and have a climb with my partner.

10/10 would recommend and will be coming back to next time we are in Auckland.

Great place for kids and adults alike. Plenty of walls to explore and the play area for kids very well designed. It would be good to have a different price for kids who wish to only use the play area rather than paying for full fee to climb. Overall a really good and fun experience

If you are considering whether or not to do this cruise, consider no more. It is more than worth it in every respect. The organization of the crew to boarding and what to expect, the friendliness of all of the staff during the cruise, and the knowledge that was shared were all exceptional. We definitely got to see dolphins on the tour and the enthusiasm when we would come across a pod of dolphins was contagious. This was a fantastic trip and more than worth the price. My 19 year old son and I had a fantastic time and it was not only an excellent way to end our visit to New Zealand, the friendliness and honest focus on ecology and conservation that seems to permeate the entire country was very much encapsulated by this experience. A perfect bookend to our trip and most highly recommended.

Absolutely phenomenal! This was an amazing day to get to set so many dolphins and we spotted a whale. It was quite rainy but wouldn’t trade the experience for anything! The crew, absolutely loved! Thank you for making our honeymoon experience so memorable!

We were in two minds whether to do this trip but were so glad that we did. We spent over 4 hours at sea and whilst we had our fingers crossed that we would catch some glimpses of sea-life we weren’t prepared for the spectacle that awaited us. The skipper, Graeme, took us out into the Gulf and the crew members (Sonaa, Toni and Cayla) gave us insights into the Gulf’s marine wildlife. We were treated to a real extravaganza as the dolphins raced ahead of us and then started to herd fish. A whale joined them, ploughing through the centre of the fish, and then the gannets dive-bombed the water. It was like an episode from one of David Attenborough’s documentaries. It was a magical afternoon although I think we might have been particularly lucky that day. Some lovely memories to bring home.

Fabulous boat trip with qualified Marine biologists who participate in the care and monitoring of sea life. The staff were all brilliant, very informative so a really interesting trip. We were very lucky to see 2 whales, lots of dolphins- 2 types, and the gannets in action in a feeding area. The boat is lovely, very clean and comfortable with good snacks and some hot food, easy to
Walk around and loads of seating inside and outside. Would highly recommend

We had the greatest experience with this crew. All of them are really desperate to find those dolphins and whales, which we both saw. The boat is amazing as well. I would 100% recommend this tour over all of the others in Auckland, even though we got a bit wet in the front

The crew is amazing – very informative and kind, very dedicated to their mission towards the animals, the environment but also the guests. Make sure the weather will be good while you attending, because on the sea the weather is getting much worse than on the shore. Don’t stay in the splash zone right from the start, stay inside and only go out when and if you find dolphins/whales. We only encountered the common dolphin and we received a voucher to repeat the experience because of that. Thank you crew, it was lovely.

Totara Park is a fantastic spot that truly has something for everyone.

The park features beautiful bush walks with well-marked pathways leading to various scenic spots and even connecting to the Botanical Gardens. With routes suited to all fitness levels, you can take a leisurely stroll or challenge yourself with a more intense walk.

It’s a popular spot for dog walkers and runners – especially those tackling the famous 100 steps (if you know, you know!). Despite the lively atmosphere, there are plenty of peaceful moments to enjoy the tranquility of the surrounding trees.

Families will love the playgrounds – one near the main car park and another hidden along one of the trails. The park also offers a great café, tennis courts, public swimming pools, and well-maintained facilities, including toilets and plenty of seating.

Whether you’re looking for an active day out or a quiet escape, Totara Park is an absolute gem!

I grew up around this place – used to have a paper round that passed by it (back when it was surrounded by fields) and I still like to pop back and visit on occasion.
Though it always seems smaller than I remember.
There are some great bush walks, a nice picnic area, and in the summer, swimming pools.

Hands down this is now my favorite park in the North Island! Absolutely pristine with so much space! Its huge! There are ample of tracks for walker and some amazing areas and trails for mountain bikers. There are also picnic areas and lots of off street parking around most of the park. The lookout is spectacular but you cannot drive up at this point in time. However it’s a very short walk from the street. We spent a good couple of years here and only saw a tiny portion of the park. Only thing to note there are limited toilets here.

I left 20 years ago and the place hasn’t changed … much! I took my child 4yr old and the walk through the entrance tree’s bought back nostalgia for me.. but to turn and hear her excitement made me realise this was still a magical place! Great for healthy walks, picnics.. one of its biggest hidden gems is that there is also a swimming pool! It really makes you wonder if the pool is the main event.. or just an addition! Did i mention great walks??
