Awesome place just love the merch the vibe it’s a cool place for records tees and 80s puzzles and games and way more

Do not remember when I last walked into a real groovy store. Came in to get a poster for my son for Christmas varieties of artists and prices are low too staff here were very helpful and were able to find what I was after. The vibe in store takes you back to your younger years walking around music stores and listening to records cds in store. A gem of a store, has everything you need no matter what era or genre you are from !!
I was able to find a frame for the poster I purchased from the warehouse too
Aloma Sileli (☆ 5/5)

Having not been to Real Groovy in about 20 yrs was surprised it wasn’t on upper queen st anymore. Still a great place to go get your vinyls and anything music related, even have a few old types for sale ..

Banger of a record store, great range, cool nic nacs. Bit of history too, I expect it was the only record store in the country for awhile there. Always some interesting esoteric music in the background. 1010 if you love music and/or vinyl why haven’t you been?
Peter Oomen (☆ 5/5)

A los que nos apasiona la musica, ver los clásicos en discos de vinil es una increíble experiencia.
Una super tienda, donde se encuentra de todo, tornamesas, posters, cassettes, merchandise, etc.
Recomendado !

As we all know, spending hard earned cash on hobbies that often collect dust can often cause us distress. I’ve poured through forums, I’ve done all the “internetting” I could do, and all of it could of been at least some what avoided, if I’d just gone into a place like the Rockshop and asked for help. These guys take the time to help you in whatever aspect of music you’re trying to get stuck into, and they do it with a smile. I’m supremely impressed with the service from these guys time and time again. Even if they don’t stock the item, they know how to get it, where to get it, and often give you good advice along the way. Cheers team, you’re a bunch of legends.

Awesome selection of musical stuff and a great team of staff. Very helpful when I purchased my new Epiphone EH 200 Studio guitar, which it tried in the shop after the Hummingbird. Been using them for years, and will continue to do so.

Best place to get all your music stuff! Bought 2 pianos already here…actually 3. Something was a miss with the 2nd one…they replaced it with a better model at no extra expense. Top notch! Thanks

Thank you
Christina Dehar (☆ 5/5)

A very special thank you to Rock Shop Henderson for finding a jumbo guitar case to give my dad, Bill Sevesi’s guitar a new safe home for storage. The old Maton guitars are so different from what they used to make and dad’s guitar is now around 60 years old. It carries such nostalgic and historical value, around the history of our dance hall days; recordings dad did over the decades of his hawaiian, island, foxtrot, tango… you name it. The Orange Ballroom was his famous spot for over 18 years.

Friendly staff helped us pick out a Ukulele for an 8 year old. No upsell, just best within budget. They engaged with my son to bring him on the journey, tuned the guitar and now we’re home jamming.
Matt G (☆ 5/5)

Popped in there today – a young chap pointed me in the direction of guitars and didnt seem to care. Shane and Jacob walked past but to be fair they were busy with something else. A female couple walked out at the same time as they were not serviced either. Went to Music Planet Wairau and purchased a guitar there. Will not use the rock shop again. A musical family who has shopped at the albany branch in the past without incident. But will take my money to the competition. PS you need a email address to keep your people accountable.

One of the best experiences I’ve had at a Rockshop (throughout the past 18 months I’ve been to 8 or more across the North & South Island). Great, attentive staff right from when I walked into the store, they gave me loads of honest advice, didn’t try to push a sale. Thanks guys!

BEST SERVICE EVER!! Our church has consistently relied on Takapuna for our music gear needs, and our experiences have been nothing short of outstanding. The team exemplifies professionalism and transparency, ensuring that even in the absence of their long-time senior staff & management that we normally deal with – the quality of service remains exceptional.
It is clear why many other churches also choose Takapuna Rockshop for their requirements. Thank you for being the real deal!

I struggled – and failed – for an hour to replace my own guitar strings this morning as my cats looked on concerned. Fortunately Victoria at Rockshop Takapuna sorted me out in 5 minutes, and now I’m not turning up to band practice tonight without an instrument! Thanks!!

So sad. Drove nearly 1 hour plus traffic and so excited to see the varieties of acoustic guitar on sale. But before going there I check online what kind of guitar I am getting today and I’ve got top 3 to choose on. Epiphone j-200 red wine color, ipiphone el-00 and cordoba travel mini guitar are on the list unfortunately out of more than 30 acoustic guitar on sale I saw online. Only 3 is available in store. I just need to check and hold it before buying supposedly. but it’s not there. Ended up buying guitar that not in my list. Costumer service is good tho.

I’ve never had an issue at the Rockshop before, any branch. But bought a bunch of Podcast stuff from Sammy in there today. Best service for sure. Thanks mate
Chris Turner Photographer (☆ 5/5)

This Rockshop is my favorite! I had to visit 3 rockshops in one day to find a Boss Katana mini amplifier, and the first two stores couldn’t find the amp on their shelves. At the Rockshop in Albany the staff are very organized and found the amp quickly, great service. Also these guys have the nicest selection of guitars that I’ve seen! I am very happy with my purchase.
Luca Handisides (☆ 5/5)

I came here to get myself a ukulele. James was very helpful! Very personable and knowledgeable for all instruments. Gave me different options and his opinion on the different brands as well as showing me the different price ranges and allowed me to try them. I also like how they offer help right when you walked into the store! Great job!!
and Yep, I walked outta there with a ukulele and I love it. Thanks. Go here, visit them, this place has become one of my happy places. hopefully it’ll become one of yours too!

Mixed feelings about this store. Went there about 2 months ago and one guy really went out of his way to help us with an electric drum kit for our daughter. He got the headphones and got her to try it. Unfortunately, we returned to the store on Sunday and experience really unprofessional service. No help on the floor, one guy was sitting on the couch on his phone. I then went to the front counter and said I wanted to buy the Roland drum kit – No question about the Rockshop warranty either. I had to ask them if I can add it. Asked if it comes with headphones or which ones I should buy – another guy assisted. Just really unprofessional and honestly not helpful. I ended up buying the kit but wish the other guy was there again (sorry I didn’t get his name the first time). I don’t mind driving – so I will be visiting another store in the country. Definitely didn’t live up to what they strive.

Today I bought a Smashing Pumpkins siamese dream CD. I went to real groovy and jb hi fi and they did not have the CD. This shop is absolutely brilliant and have been here for a long time. The guy that was working there was very friendly and nice. I will definitely being buying more from here in the future. I think the store was nice and tidy too.
Kaitlin (☆ 5/5)

One of Auckland’s best music shops, tucked away down the picturesque Queens Arcade. From vinyl to CD, DVD to Bluray it has a wide variety of formats. The shop caters to all genres so you can buy Nirvana or Bach, Dolly or Katy; the shop is well stocked. With friendly staff who will happily order it if its not in. Another great place to peruse on your lunch break.
Rhayn Jooste (☆ 5/5)

Another gem of a record store in Queens Arcade, downtown Auckland: new, used and amazing speciality sections (including film soundtracks/scores/. Cheap DVDs too.
Krathyn White (☆ 5/5)

Best new CD selection in town, good vinyl selection, really good for jazz, especially ECM, handful of good used DVDs/Blurays, and of course the biggest classical selection in the country (probably).
EyeBricks. Studios (☆ 5/5)

What can you say about Marbecks, an institution that has been operating in various forms, for my entire life (& longer!). And that’s a long time! On a rare visit to Auckland, it was reassuring to find it still there. In the same place, it was a long time ago when I used to visit as a teen & then for the next 40 years before I departed Auckland. It’s under new ownership (again) but still the same great place, chock full of CDs & and vinyl, many of which you will no longer find anywhere else. Great sale bin, too! The only downside is that I didn’t have enough time to check out everything. When visiting Auckland, any true vinyl/CD fan needs a whole day to fully check out the 2 most Iconic Auckland record stores Marbecks & Real Groovy. Needless to say I did find something I couldn’t find anywhere else (I knew they had it as I had checked online first) & no doubt could have found more had I the time (& money). Great, friendly, knowledgeable service as expected.
David Howes (☆ 5/5)

A world class music store for fans of rare releases, niche record labels and staff who are deeply knowledgeable on recordings.
This is not the place with a bin of wholesale/discounted records. Hence many of the reviewers commenting on the price. But it is a collectors paradise. A highlight of Auckland for me.
Faraz Sahba (☆ 5/5)

Awesome place, super friendly, great selection. Nice vibe. My fav place to get records in Auckland.

Customer Reviews
I visited the RockShop Digital branch yesterday, and it was a disappointing experience. They do not seem to pick up the phone to begin with! The store had only one salesperson on duty, who was busy with another couple when I arrived. I spent about 15 minutes browsing the shop, but the salesperson didn’t notice me. When he finally finished with the other customers, the first thing he said to me was to move to the other side of the counter, as I seemed to be behind it—despite the counter being in an open space. This was hardly the welcome I expected.
When I asked for help, he reluctantly showed me some items but seemed disengaged and uninterested in assisting. I was specifically looking for a Rodecaster Pro II, microphones, headphones, and arms. I asked if I could test the audio to determine which microphone would best suit my needs, as they had the equipment available. However, the setup wasn’t connected to power, and I was told they were understaffed and could only set it up for tomorrow.
Additionally, I was advised that the Shure SM7B microphone still requires a cloud lifter to be connected to the Rodecaster Pro II, which I believe is incorrect. While he did provide a quote for the items I requested, the overall experience left me questioning whether the staff really have the knowledge and expertise to help. Their answers should not be based on speculation.
To make matters worse, I had previously sent an inquiry online, which never received a response. This was an unpleasant visit, and I’m unsure if the team at this branch is truly interested in selling or providing proper customer service.
RockShop’s mission statement is “Best Prices, Best Service, Best Products,” but my experience was far from that. Their prices are generally higher than everywhere else, and while they claim to match prices, the burden of finding better deals online falls on the customer. This is not how it should be. Overall, this visit did not meet my expectations in any way.

Bill is an incredibly knowledgeable and kind man. His shop is full of instruments ranging from affordable new models to priceless vintage gems. He sold me an excellent acoustic guitar at a great price complete with all of the necessary accoutrements. He even got out his drill and installed a strap button before I left the store. Highly recommend stopping in and picking something up. Make sure you block off enough time to truly enjoy the store. Bill also runs a recording studio on-site which I plan to check out in the future. Great shop run by a genuine guy.

I had a great time at Bungalow Bill’s today! Was looking for an accoustic guitar to take on my travels in NZ for the next year and Bill gave me valuable and honest advice, and let me take my time playing a number of guitars for hours! When I left after spending all morning here, I had an amazing vintage Suzuki, good music recommendations, and had had really nice and interesting conversations with Bill all along!
This shop is a must go for anyone looking to buy a guitar in NZ, here you will find great choice, great advice and great chats.
Thanks so much Bill!

Outstanding Service Highly Recommend!
I recently purchased a guitar for my boy and the experience was nothing short of exceptional.
From the moment we walked into the store, we were greeted warmly and guided by a knowledgeable staff member Jacob, who truly cared about finding the right instrument for my boy.
Jacob took the time to understand his skill level and musical interests, patiently answered all our questions, and even let him try out several guitars to ensure he found the perfect fit. His expertise and passion for music shone through, making the entire process enjoyable and stress-free for us.
The quality of the guitar we chose exceeded our expectations, and my boy has been thrilled ever since.
It’s rare to find such outstanding service these days, and I’m grateful for the care and attention we received.
I recommend this store to anyone looking for a musical instrument, ask for Jacob, he goes above and beyond!

The two guys who served me really went out of their way to help me, showing me all of the guitars and playing a few. Amazing service would highly recommend

A young guy served us on Sunday, and he was very helpful, much appreciated, as we are beginners
CHELLE WATTS (☆ 5/5)

Jacob and Austin are great – they are by far the most friendly and professional staff I’ve encountered in any store across New Zealand. The store itself offers a great variety of equipment, and the convenience of likely finding parking right at the door makes the visit even better. Highly recommended!

ELÆN (☆ 5/5)

Had a great experience and Jacob was so nice, very knowledgeable and pleasant to talk with as I was looking for a specific type of electric acoustic guitar. He also took the extra mile of service! Loving my new guitar now and really appreciated his note. Thanks so much!

Customer Reviews
I’m very disappointed with this purchase. The shoulder rest was uncomfortable and poorly made, but the bigger issue was the terrible customer service. When I reached out to return it, they were rude and dismissive. They had originally promised they would accept a return if the shoulder rest was uncomfortable, but when I tried to follow through on that, they told me they would raise the issue and get back to me—yet they never did. It felt like they had no intention of honoring their word. There was no empathy, no accountability, and no honesty. I will not be buying from this company again and strongly advise others to avoid them. Terrible experience overall.
Rock Chen (☆ 1/5)

Terrible customer service, would not recommend. I recently visited this shop and had an extremely disappointing experience. The customer service was absolutely awful. When I walked in, the staff seemed more interested in chatting amongst themselves than helping customers. I waited for several minutes to ask a question about a guitar, only to be met with a dismissive and unhelpful response.
Trading RGC (☆ 1/5)

Terrible service. Purchased an item and tried returning same day and they refused. Once they have your money, you ain’t getting it back.
Hannah Milne (☆ 1/5)

Visited today to get a string on my son’s guitar replaced. The salesperson Matt was extremely pleasant and took the time to show my son how to re-string his guitar which I thought was awesome, thanks Matt. Service like this will have me returning for any other needs.
Jen Blakeman (☆ 5/5)

A shop with consistancy. They don’t know about their products and they don’t know why they weren’t okay to let us in with our Therapy dog. A shop we will consistantly avoid.
If you see somebody with a therapy dog, you don’t ask why they have it. It’s likely to be a highly sensative topic and it’s rude to ask that question of a stranger publicly.
If you are scared of well trained warm blooded teddie bears, that’s okay. Just say so.
The manager of this shop needs to go. I read a bunch of other reviews and it paints a pretty clear picture.
